Looking good and/or naturally attractive: how much of a factor is it for being a successful cam model?

I am a former runway/print model and actress. I think my looks have helped me with getting people to click on my picture, but after that it is all about selling/salesmanship and knowledge. I don't make money unless I work my ass off. Being pretty hasn't sold a single video for me but well-researched fetishes/descriptions and SEO have. My confidence in my looks have allowed me to set high prices sooner, but I know women who aren't "mainstream" attractive who have higher prices and make more money. In this industry knowledge, personality, attitude, and confidence will get you a lot further than "looks" - and guess what? The same is true in high fashion modeling and acting.

I can sit in my room with a bored look on my face and I will make way less money than if I become a sales person. Fun, bouncy, laughing - this brings people in regardless of looks.

When I tell my family and friends how much I made or a contest I did well in, they ALWAYS attribute my success to my looks and quite frankly, it is demeaning to my 60+ hour work weeks and extensive training/research.

I actually think if I had breasts/cleavage it would help me far more than any pretty face but YMMV

And as CJ said in her post, making money can be as finnicky as glasses vs contacts, standing vs sitting - there is a formula and if I change it, my money tanks. My formula has nothing to do with my looks but everything to do with am I smiling and wearing red and not laying down, etc.

It’s neither and both.

There is another important element that you’ve bypassed. Psychology.
Knowing how to work someone and push the right buttons and have a decent amount of knowledge on buying behaviour is one of the main keys to an easier success route.

Looks will only get you so far, hard work alone will probably get you even further towards success.

Id disagree with the aspect of luck playing a role, because guys are out there and we all have the same chance to market ourselves. If a guy flicks through 10 rooms, he doesn‘t pick you based on luck, he picks you because he has some kind of interest in you, whether it be looks or personality.

Beeing nice with your room guess is one of the most important . I was watching last night an american lady on stripchat, years ago she used to do great on cb too but she disspear , now i saw her on stripchat popular . She gives me hopes that even after age 50 can be a succesfull cammodel . Its all about her atitude, and i like to watch american models , can only learn from them becouse for them is natural the way they talk, they dont need to force themself to talk to people. Shes so much fun listening , the way she entertain her room , talking and making people wanna stay, was hard for me to go but for guys.. Guess is in like every job, if you are nice with customers you keep the job even beeing promoted, if you are not and ignoring them you lose the job or you quit alone .
I did not know, that chaturbate started without option to tip,it is interesting. And i understand your point as well,it is about entertaining, i agree. I just wanted to say, that kind approach does not work for every girl, some guys can smell it as a weakness and they like to manipulate or making a fun from it. But it really depends, it is so different from people to people. Thank you for reply

I will not include all those comments that I feel is on point, I just want to add my perspective as a user:

I come in to a room based on the look, but stay for the personality.

You might have the looks of Cindy Crawford, but if you just sit there and are not engaging the room, bye bye. And I appreciate that both looking good and being engaging is hard work.

So my answer is that both looks and hard work matters, but what looks good and/or is naturally attractive is highly subjective, there is an audience for everyone, but you might need luck in finding it.

I want to add to this thread that many other factors play a role - I had a user tip for skype on MFC and I was in the middle of fulfilling a submissive users request for some "mean" talk and he was so turned off by the fact that I am not a sub (even though it is stated on my profile) he told me to have a nice day and keep the money (1500 tokens!). He tipped for a show because he liked my face but left because that's where his attraction ended.

I have so many men leave my room when they find out I am hairy, no anal, won't act like a sub, etc. There is more than looks that goes into this. I would be wealthy if I had a dollar for every user that says "you would be hotter if, blah blah blah." There are so many fetishes that don't have enough models/new clips and it really does not matter what you look like if you are creating the content they want. I am thin with small tits - plenty of men have told me this is unattractive regardless of what my face looks like.

I am bisexual and there are plenty of top 100 models on token sites that are not my type and don't turn me on. Same is true for men, I assume. I look like an innocent "girl next door" but if you stick around in my room you would find I am a sarcastic, dominant, no bullshit kinda gal. This is a huge turn off for some men. Doesn't matter what you look like, personality is important. Selling is important. I really doubt any man likes all the top porn stars or cam models even if they are 10/10 in the looks department.

Hi,
I am helping a few models on CB, so i see who comes in and who goes out and in what tempo. One of them does not do any show, sh's waiting for the tips, the other makes an effort to put on a show and entertains her viewers talking it all together. In my opinion both are even attractive but the first one has much more in/outs than the second one, why is that?
I am friends with 6 different models on CB, none of whom speak English, or speak it poorly. There are 2 (one Colombian and one Russian) who do not talk at all. And they both lie on their bed, waiting for next tip. I see some many people come in and out of their rooms, they struggle to have 20 people in their room. On the occasions they do something different, or move about, their numbers jump. But I can't get them to understand that just looking pretty won't bring in big audiences and tippers.

p.s. I have shared this site with all of them, but none of them read English well. We communicate online using CB translation or through Google translate offline.

As a ordinary member to enter to room I have a few coordinates:

1. Just girl must be for me attractive . This is 80% of my choice.
Rest is 20%

2. If girl have my favourite fetish my tolerance for her beauty can be reduces and will be 60% (by fetish I mean not only so for example she can show feet but she is with other girl/guy, too), 40% for rest
3. Her make up (I don't like strong)
4. I preferring so she is really gets pleasure from camming than she forces to something for tokens

In other words - I will choose faster looking good girl than in my taste than who doing everything.... But sometimes if she have my favourite fetish I can lower my taste...

Example:

Best choice: looking good for me and have my fetish
Medium choice: looking good or have my fetish (but still in option 2 must be fulfill minimum attractive for me). Girl who completely is not attractive for me but have my fetish I reject.

In practice I looking for girls in chaturbate firstly by my fetish and choose most attractive for me. Secondary all girls in my favourite age - most attractive - but in this option must be really attractive for me...

I hope so help.

Hi everyone,
My question I'm trying to ask: how much of camming y'all think is 'hard work' vs 'looking attractive'?

By hard work, I mean things like marketing, keeping the room entertaining, interacting with the room members/tippers, or even getting your typing up to 120+ WPM to deal with the onslaught of PMs :giggle:, For purposes of the question, I'm also throwing in personality as 'hard work' with the presumption that it takes effort to show off one's personality. By looking attractive, I mean mostly the way someone naturally looks (i.e. aesthetic, maybe ideally curvy for the vast majority) but I imagine makeup/style also plays a role, so I didn't want to leave it purely as genetics or whatnot. Also, yes, I know looks are subjective, but I'm talking about looking attractive in terms of the majority, since there are popular trends/characteristics.

The reason why I ask is (not to sound disparaging or anything, but) I know hard work can be easily adjusted, but looking attractive is something that is arguably more limited. I've heard it said on the forum before that being naturally attractive gives a model a 'semi-free pass,' but I wanted to ask all of y'all how much of a 'free pass' (if any) y'all think looks really give.

As usual, I figure there is probably no truly right / wrong opinion on this. I'm just curious to hear everyone's insights on this! 🙂

Extra questions to give some food for thought:
- If someone isn't maybe naturally attractive but puts in lots of hard work, do you think they'll be able to be more successful than a very attractive person who does little in front of camera?
- Are there limitations to success simply based on how one looks? Or how one acts? (i.e. "You can never be a top model on a site if you don't have ________.")

Thanks for your responses!
It's like this....looks might get you an interview. As in, if you're super hot and show up when you say you will, yeah, people will come hang in your room. Same with in porn. People will want to film with you. BUT if you're not doing your job, ultimately that shit gets stale real quick. Hotness is good but you have to put the WORK/ACTION in to reap the rewards. and it takes a fuck ton of it to grow a long lasting community/fan base.

Agree 100%.

One of my model friends is quite good looking, but not stunning. Last night averaged about 8 non greys is the room for 6 hours and she made 79 tokens, which is then split with the studio. For those who want to know why I didn't tip, I've blown my budget this month, but my friends like to chat if it is quiet.

I'm torn on even being in the room when we both know I have no tokens. They message me and ask me to join if I can. I give then moral support, but while they are chatting to me, they are not really doing their job, and I tell them this. It is a tough gig, and I wouldn't want to be on the other side of the camera.

After I've blown my monthly cam site budget I don't even log on. The models I tend to visit have been told about it, but there's always quite a bit of drama in my inbox when I log back on anyway. They likely forgot. Maybe I should start PM-ing them "This is to notify you I am still neither dead nor bankrupt" every other day? Well, maybe not.
