ok the last week or so ive been doing some research. heres a breakdown so far of the reasons that members have given me for not being able to tip, or tipping far less than usual... anyone else wants to throw me more data ill be glad to update later on.

10% claim a shortage in funds due to increased cost of living.
a full 25 percent have either lost jobs, changed jobs, or had their pay decreased at their job.
hanging around 5 percent (more or less) each are the following reasons:
MFC crashes
decreased interest in show similarity (in other words every model is doing similar things in their opinions)
credit limit maxed out on cards
waiting for specific models to be online
saving up tokens for videos etc
the single biggest reason given so far at around a 30 percent mark is the disabled/social security guys saying that increases in medicaid/medicare type payments have gone up with no increase for cost of living
the other 10 odd percent were just rude assholes and i dont feel like repeating their idiocy.

the percentages ive used are approximate since the data set isnt finished yet, its all scribbled in my notebook, so please forgive the vagueness til i can get it all on a spreadsheet or somethin and do it up right. i cant speak to the guys being truthful or not, just what ive been told so far

It would be interesting to see what you finally get after you've sorted all the data. Hopefully whoever you've asked has been truthful so the results are screwed.

As for me, i currently have a part time job which obviously limits me money wise but the reason i'm not tipping at the moment is because i'm saving up for a trip next year. I'm hoping to go to one of the conventions in the US so i can geek out, there's not much or anything as big as the ones in the US here. The model i would normally tip actually encouraged me to save instead of tip, and even told me off when i did once ha ha.
Now if i had a full time job, i could do both...stupid global situation lol.

So you're gathering all this "data". "Data" that you don't even know is accurate, basically hearsay. "Data" that the models have already heard a million times before in chat, in PMs, MFC mail, etc.

It's your time and effort, so you go guy! I'd rather see you write down some of those stories you talked about in the "best jobs" thread, but that's just me ;) :twocents-02cents:

i think it's cool that you took an interest in this subject :thumbleft:
i was talking with a friend of mine about this same subject last night....our anecdotal evidence (aka...there's no notebook involved  ) suggests that the two reasons above pulled from your list are more important than your sampling indicates.

and strangely, from my perspective of age and mindset, these would both be things that guys talking to complete strangers (my assumption of who you were while asking your questions  ) might be reticent to admit.....for #1....what kind of guy would diss the free pussy all over the site (that's not very conducive to the manly-internet-persona-hanging-out-at-a-camsite, is it? :naughty: )
and for #2 i see a vast difference between the "well-adjusted-to-MFC" guy -who has a great time being a favorite in a room (or rooms) and will readily talk about it, and those with conflicts (emotional or otherwise) about having models that they really like.

last thought is this....with regards to #1, what i'm seeing in the rooms i visit, is a lot of boredom (the great unwashed mass of silent watchers)....guys who came for the free show, and are in the middle of the transition from an oversaturated perv to the guy who begins to develop the social aspects of the site....or to the guy who drifts away from the site because of an inability or an unwillingness to do explore those aspects.

I think this is really interesting too. You should do a poll on here for members to say "no I tip around the same amount as I always have" and then a list of options, the ones you've stated and maybe a few more.

Obviously this kind of research isn't solid because it's not paper official, you've probably only asked a small range etc, and obviously members could not tell the truth, some might not want to answer etc. But it's still interesting out of those who do answer, because there does seem to have been a downfall in member spending atm. Everyone has various excuses etc that the models don't really like hearing at the time, but it's nice to hear on here rather than members saying it to me after I've just had a shitty night!

I'm curious as to how many people you talked to.

I still am able to tip/group/private, just not as much as I used to. Cost of living has some to do with it, saving up for other things I want/need is another reason. Also the fact my full time job pays shit for where I live (in many other more rural parts of the US it would be paying semi-decent), doesn't help.

But I think the economy being in the shitter is kind of an excuse for some guys to rationalize why they can't even tip 10 tokens here and there. I can't tip hundreds or thousands in a week, anymore. But that doesn't stop me from sending smaller tips with fun tip notes to favorites when I can. My model friends don't mind the smaller tips, less often. They enjoy my company and appreciate that I tip when I can.

Often, my limited tokens budget, anymore, is spread out between quite a few models. So if each one ends up with 100 tokens from me in a week or so, that seems like a lot from me to them right now.

But, there are other times that I am saving tokens for a specific model that I know I want a nice, decently long private with, as well. And that lone private can use up my entire MFC budget for a month.

However, being someone who lost their job and was out of work for over a year, I truly do sympathize with the members who have lost their jobs. Because it is fucking hard to then find another one that pays the same. I had to settle for a job that payed over $2 less an hour when I finally got a full time job again. It might not sound like a lot, but $80 less a week (pre-tax) hurts. You really feel it if you work a job that has overtime and notice just how much more overtime you have to work just to make what you used to make in a 40 hour week, before.

It's an employers' market right now, and employers know it. So they know they can offer lower wages and still get people to deal with it.

:hello2:
I went through a stretch where I wasn't really able to afford any tokens at all recently but I'm kinda back to my usual tipping habits now (I guess I've tipped more than I generally do these past few weeks but that's taking into account birthday related stuffs so that's kind of an anomoly - that aside I'd say I'm tipping at the same level I have been for the last year or so).

It looks like that little dood ( :hello2: <---him) is standing atop a massive wall made of giant letters :?

I was online this weekend and was in a room and wanted to tip... in fact was trying to tip as were others in the room.

You would get the window to enter the tip amount and your comment then click on the send button and it would do NOTHING, it just said waiting for www.myfreecams.com and then would time out.

I tried tipping for over 10 minutes but not a single tip went through. Other guys in the chat were reporting the same issue in the chat and the model started getting mad at us for lying about wanting to tip and then she logged off calling us freeloaders.

HONESTLY I WAS TRYING TO TIP!

Too bad for her I guess. :(

Hopefully she later found out it was a legit problem. As most people here know, MFC's been having a lot of software problems/crashes lately, which they say they are working on getting fixed. Tip lag is one of the things that was happening. I did one tip yesterday that went through according to my token count in My Account but never showed up in the chat. The model was kicked offline a few minutes later, followed by, I think, a full site crash.

ok, apparently i opened up a shit storm!

since my original post ive gotten as many responses as i had in two weeks of asking around. the numbers have changed immensely. out of the 183 answers total, i've gotten a full 80 that are specifically related to the MFC problems. apparently the repeat crashes and malfunctioning tip windows are a major issue. on top of those where its listed as the only reason, theres another 20 that list it as discouraging along with the other issues. that is a big chunk.

I'll be 184.

Lost my job. Trying to save up as much money as possible to enroll into Everest online courses for web design. That, along with being slightly depressed for hitting 1,000 reward points (I know, not much, but meh), has put my tipping into a near stand still. Luckily my friends understand and still initiate PMs with me, knowing that I wont be able to tip until a few weeks after I find a new job.

i'm another one
my tipping hasn't stopped completely, just slowed to a near crawl.

I haven't lost my job or anything, but, I do have an increased debt load plus I'm saving for a vacation in December (I do not take vacations often, 1 in the previous decade, so I think I deserve some time off and fun) Over the last few months every time I think I have some spare money for tokens, like today was payday, I remind myself that I'm going on vacation in a few months and should save it.

when I do buy tokens, I tip the models I have been lurking about when I'm tokenless
