The doc told me I'm not going under general anesthesia. So I just hope whatever they give me loops me up enough to not care, or makes me fall asleep. I've heard that your throat hurts after, and for a couple days. I've actually had a scope procedure before, but it was for my bladder (so it didn't go through my mouth, hehe) and I was completely knocked out with general anesthesia for that.
What did they find on your test? We are doing this to rule out a stomach infection or something stomach related, and if this comes back clear of all that, then I'm seeing a surgeon about gallbladder removal.
Wow! I hope they give you enough to sleep too! I’ve never heard of them doing it while someone was awake. I certainly hope you are not the first!
I can tell you mine was only light anesthesia… Diprivan I think… but still enough to knock me out.
The funny part of it was after the surgery, the doctor cam and talked to me and I responded like I was awake. Honestly I don’t remember it at all. Not a freakin thing.
My issue going in was different than yours. I have stomach acid issues but not gall bladder. They did take pictures of my esophagus, stomach and upper intestine however. They are very lovely pictures, I’m thinking of having them framed LOL
The results were not too bad but not perfect; Hiatal Hernia, Gastritis, some damage to the esophagus but nothing that will not heal in time, and something called Shantzki’s Ring, which is a narrowing of the esophagus I guess.
Mine will be controlled with a life long regiment of acid control meds (Prilosec) and I have to watch what I eat. Unfortunately most of my favorite things are not good for me. Overall it is not bad news however; could have been cancer or a blockage in my esophagus and it wasn’t, so it’s all good for me. Thanks for asking.
My mo just had her gallbladder removed…she is 75 yrs old…and she is so happy she did it! I love the woman, she is a saint, but she is not the toughest person in the world and she had no problems with that either. They’ve been doing it so long it’s routine now.
