Porn watchers think more highly of women

It doesn't look like camming was covered specifically but a more general:

Pornography use was assessed by asking participants if they had viewed an X-rated film in the preceding year.

It seems that there is an undercurrent on the internet of challenging previous conservative beliefs on human sexuality. This study may of been inaccurate but the fact that it's talked about is likely bring about a more healthy view on human sexuality. What do you think?

Not that this goes for everyone, but I believe a good portion (nowadays at least) match up with this. Sure a huge chunk out there still need to learn some things, but the internet and porn has definitely helped in my opinion.

My reasoning is:

Nowadays more than ever people are allowed to easily watch porn featuring women doing things specifically showing them enjoying themselves (especially in cases where the women made the porn themselves).

Also, (and possibly more importantly) people can anonymously ask questions online, clearing up frustrating misconceptions that often lead to one gender having trust issues about the other.

Used to porn was basically all produced by men, so a lot only catered to the male fantasy, without considering what the women wanted. Women tend to have a harder time reaching orgasm, so many times even if it's not in porn they'll just go along with it hoping it'll work that time, or perhaps a later time when it doesn't work that time...and still never getting there. It's a tender subject, because few women want to talk about not easily/ever having orgasms, and don't want to disappoint the guy.

Camgirls definitely have displayed the more human side of porn as well, where most porn used to feel rather I guess...to much of a fantasy. Seeing a camgirl in her pjs waking up, definitely makes one think "girl next door" rather than of a gangbang scene or whatever.

There are many studies and papers in progress about the effect that the web is having on American sexuality.

One of the bigger ones is that the web has been starting to pick apart the nudity taboo in America. Flash back to the 70's or the 80's or earlier, and if a picture of young woman nude surfaced she'd be ruined. The attached stigma and shame were massive. But as the web came along, and easy photography with devices with it, more and more average everyday women started to share nudes. Often the thinking was 'There are uncounted boobies on the web so what does it really matter if mine are too?' The fact that nudes are also a form of social currency now plays a part.

The rise of camming presents a entirely new area of growth and exploration.

First up, camming provides connectivity. It is not passive porn. A image or video is not interactive beyond the fantasy the viewer maps onto it. One way communication. Cams force a connection of sorts into the mix. The viewer is in interaction with a human, and that human can defend their innate humanity if it's challenged or ignored. Right there, the basic balance of how porn is consumed is altered. It starts to teach that sexuality when it involves others, needs to be to the benefit of both parties, and that is a lesson that static porn never can convey.

A poster above noted that Camming shows women honestly enjoying themselves, their bodies and their sexualities. This sends a lot of messages that were not seen often in the culture, and has impacts in encouraging other women to see themselves in a more whole way, and viewers to see woman as possessing the same sexual desires and drives they do.

Camming flattens the media monopoly on body image. With thousands of real women showing their bodies everyday, the sample set of sexualized images that a viewer is exposed to becomes much much more representative of what the world really looks like. The media 'ideal' as presented on TV, film, and advertising has always ruled in shaping generations ideas on what beauty is. Often to the great detriment of our culture. With Cams the concept of a single 'right' look is disrupted, and what is sexy and erotic becomes widened. This is culturally healthy.

These are just some of the biggest things that are starting to shake out. There are people looking into how cam models are often 'companions' to many viewers that also convey intimacy and care unto people who might be isolated, or lack the skills or means to pursue traditional interactions. And how this social aspect of the work is healthy for a society. It battles that aloneness many suffered from before.

There will be a lot of papers and research showing in the next years. It should be interesting.

I thought that was kind of a bullshit metric for a "study" and the results would be a lot more meaningful if it was something like, watched porn monthly, weekly, daily, etc.

I'm going to guess that people who are HONEST about their porn habits think more highly of others. Honesty and respect kind of go together. So, someone who is less apt to lie probably cares more about his or her fellow man.

Yeah, it was "have you watched an X-rated movie in the past year". Just over 22% said yes.

I think it's an interesting study, but I agree that the metrics are a bit weak. Obviously they worked with what they had, and you get to look at a much larger number of people that way, but with such a basic survey I'm not sure you're getting a lot of valuable information. It was an interesting read, though!

There are certain groups of people (e.g., religious, social, and political conservatives) that avoid pornography use who also tend to hold more gender non-egalitarian attitudes.

Downsides are that the survey was usually done face-to-face, which immediately cuts down honesty about watching porn by a significant chunk. Across all participants, only 22,82% reported watching a pornographic film in the preceding year.

Seriously. There was one porn study at a university here in town that had to be abandoned because they couldn't find enough for a control group that didn't watch porn.

I'm so thankful for MFC actually because I feel that the men on this website are kinder than the average men you meet on the internet. On other websites where I wasn't camming, I could be a woman expressing my opinion about tv, politics, etc... and someone would tell me "I'm going to kill and rape you." Like, WHAT? But it surprised me a lot when guys on MFC actually a lot of the time want to compliment us and worship us even lol

@pearlgirlx It's fucked up, what some will say behind the veil of anonymity. Would they say these things offline? No, they'd probably just act like assholes. I agree though, that cam sites are way more likely to have nicer people, I assume since the site is one of the few places they may feel comfortable discussing their sexual thoughts, since generally anyone can debate most anything else anywhere easily without people claiming it's inappropriate.

@Ann_Sulu I agree! The culture promotes such a unique conversation to be had, one where there is a sense of trust. Also, I feel like the guys that come to MFC are seeking that usually. They want a human connection that isn't found in porn. Sure, porn is changing, but I mean it's more artificial and there is no connection between the audience and viewer. Guys that specifically seek out camgirls in place of porn are more empathetic I think.
