Scariest horror/ghost movie you have ever watched?

Yeah, the usual Hollywood stuff like Saw and such... meh. I have a hard time really considering them horror, I think "torture porn" like that is just tasteless and stupid.

But Paranormal Activity, jesus fuck that movie creeped me out. Such simple things... like the girl just getting out of bed and standing beside it staring at her boyfriend for two hours; goddamn that was creepy, and I can't even explain why. (That's a spoiler, so I hid it. Highlight it to read it.)

Also, there's this movie called Below. In it, an American submarine during WW2 rescues some survivors from a ship that's been torpedoed, and then all kinds of spooky shit start happening, and dear lord that's also one creepy-ass movie.

All in all; Subtle, more mysterious horror vastly outperforms the "AAAAARGH BLOOD AND GUTS AND TORTURE AND MONSTERS" horror when it comes to scaring me.

I can't remember the last time a horror movie got to me. But then I grew up watching Jason and the gang slash their way through teenagers on Friday night. I saw the art behind the effects and was able to separate the fiction..... may have ruined it for me, now that I think about it.
I think the last horror/thriller that bothered me was called 'The Town that Dreaded Sundown.' It was based on a true story and the killer escaped in the end. Now I know it was probably based on several true events pieced together to make a dramatic story, but when I was young... that fucker with the pillowcase on his head was out there killing people.


People keep talking about Paranormal Activity. Sure there were creepy scenes, but am I the only one who sat and yelled, "turn on a fucking light" for an hour and a half? I laughed at the movie.
I think I may have disturbed my wife a little.....

in no particular order: it, frontier, the girl next door (not the comedy), the human centipede, paranormal activity, cold storage. i'm sure there are others because my roommate and i are really screwed up like that, but i can't remember them right now. when i was 13 i watched part of hostel, but i got too freaked out and didn't get past the first 10 minutes. i thought it was just disgusting and not really scary.

Pure stupidity ruins most horror movies for me. For the scary factor anyway. Human Centipede was a really bad one to watch if you like to yell at your t.v! My favorite movie "Behind the mask the rise of Leslie Vernon" Makes fun of those things a lot. It's wonderful!
I recall being fascinated by Pumkinhead as a kid and still to this day it is my favorite horror/monster flick. The effects and costuming were just amazing!
Ghost movies are the only ones that actually scare me. I don't consider a horror movie horror if all it does is make you want to puke. (Saw, hostile, you know)

Behind the Mask was fun. I love the whole "You got your Ahab!" part.
And Pumpkinhead was indeed a great film- still celebrated among the horror loving community.

I think the most frightening film I've seen in a long while is the documentary 'Jesus Camp.' Truly scary shit.
Before that, 'Paradise Lost' 1 and 2, about the West Memphis Three, mostly because I know that had something similar happened near me, I could just as easily have been accused.

Jesus Camp was so scary I blocked it from my memory until just now! THANKS A LOT! haha!
I worked at a video store for a long time (would have done it for free) and got to watch anything and everything for free. They carried a lot of independent so I feel like I was very lucky.
My obsession level and pure emotion that comes out when I talk about Pumkinhead may be the absolute nerdiest thing about me. Like my heart is racing just talking about it now! One of my fav regs actually made a bunch of Pumkinhead gifs for me and uploaded them to MFC.

Behind the mask was filmed just down the rode from where i used to live in Portland, so that was pretty cool too!

Good movies, I saw those on Netflix! The cheezy name for The Human Centipede doesn't give the movie much justice, it creeped me the hell out. Very demented..

The original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." May have been because I watched it alone...shudder. lol

I'm not affected by horror movies with a lot of "magick" or fantasy in them. To me, the scariest movies are those which actually COULD happen...brings the shiver home.

That one was good too! I didn't care for the 2nd one though.. it seemed like they were reaching too much and I liked how the first one left you to decide what really happened down there.
