I’m sorry you had to experience that. And I think it’s definitely very possible (maybe even likely) that it was an adult trying to get a reaction from you.
It’s also not impossible it was either 1) someone messing around with a voice changer/AI, or 2) an actual adult that happens to have the voice of someone younger. I’ve known a few adult men that had relatively high/soft/squeaky voices.

I was thinking the same thing.
