Tipping psychology and addictive/compulsive behaviors?

56/M here, new to the world of camsites, primarily on Stripchat for the last three months... so I'm definitely a newbie and have a very limited data set!

It completely amazes me when I see a random tipper suddenly come into the room and "tip bomb" the model. Doesn't take her private, barely interacts with her, doesn't seem to care if she interacts with him and then after blowing a few thousand tokens he just disappears never to been seen again. This seems to happen about once a week in my favorite models room, so it seems to be a pattern but I also see it in other rooms as well. It really gives me the vibe these are compulsive/addictive behaviors that have nothing to do with appreciating the model, getting personal attention and/or sexual satisfaction.

From a model's perspective and experience, is this random tip bombing a normal occurrence? Do you have a term for this? Are there any stories about guys that went broke doing this?

p.s. - zero guilt implied on the model, there is nothing exploitive about camming imo, thank you for sharing your beauty and personality, it is very much appreciated!

Sometimes people that are known tippers like to remain hidden when they are present.

Depends what you mean by ‘interaction’ - the very act of tipping is interacting with the model to a degree and there may well be PMs etc behind the scenes.

People tip for all sorts of reasons.

Some of these guys will have an account that they are talking to the model on and then another account they use for tipping. When someone becomes known in a room as someone who routinely tips a lot, other members will stop tipping and just wait around for the known tipper (aka, the second worst kind of freeloaders, the first being the ones that actively say in chat "what time is x going to be online?", x being the member name that talks a lot), so some people that tip a lot and frequently in a room will set up a new account every so often to tip through to avoid that kind of attention.

It could also be a studio admin if they are a studio model, when I worked in studio it was pretty common to have the studio (and on some sites that the studio had a deal with the site themselves) tip from a member account they own to improve their models placement and try and encourage other people to tip (people are more likely to tip if they feel they are not the only one doing so)

it could also be the model themselves, their bf, a IRL friend, it's not uncommon (at least amongst the people I know) that when things are slow they will tip themselves from a member account for items off their tip menu, reason being that freemium sites you need to be doing something to get traffic, but if people see you doing things for free they expect if they wait around long enough then they will get an entire free show as you try and get them tipping, so tipping themselves means they can do something without it looking like they will do things for free.

There's also a bunch of other reasons it can happen, some people for example have a more dominant style of a findom fetish. Money is power and throwing large sums of tokens at someone without ever saying anything renforces that feeling for them

Guys with a compulsion or an addiction generally have a different behaviour from my experiance, they tend to be the guys that talk a lot and have a more parasocial relationship with the model.

Some of the more consistent people throughout the years barely say anything at all. It's fun. It's like being on stage and some dude just throws bills and then walk out the door.

My favorite part is when the freeloaders get all wide eyed about big tips from other users and have kind of a "why would you tip HER that much?" Hahaha that's for me to know and them to figure out.

I do stuff like that when I have extra cash, to models I like. I expect nothing in return, and I have no addiction. I just do it because it's nice, and I like to help people out (when I can). I would imagine the exact same reasoning is behind others also doing it. Or behind-the-scenes deals that are no one else's business but the model and member in question, doing the tipping. I often make arrangements with guys for stuff off of all sites, then send them to whatever site I'm focused on that week, to make the drop/ payment. That's really no one else's business, though. I know tons of guys who are members of nearly every site I'm on, and also have ways to talk to me off of all sites, & frequently do. So we work things out that work well for both parties, in exchange for products and services. Like any other business would.

I've cried maybe 3 times on cam in 13 years (haha, but I've certainly yelled a bit more than that). One night, when I did cry 2 different (almost) strangers dropped huge tips on me, on other sites. Just because they clearly knew me, had been watching me a while, and knew it was real. I was truly upset as Hell, and they wanted to cheer me up. There are people in this world who truly just want to spread some joy, make others smile, and don't expect a lot, or even anything back. Especially when they are doing well, and have extra.


Why is this something you are analyzing or even concerned about? Sorry, genuinely curious, seems bizarre to me, and irrelevant to your personal experience on the sites.

True! Thank you! As a client I can't see that so I was wondering what models experience and I am curious about all the reasons. Because yesterday a brand new model, with eight people in her room, fully clothed, doing nothing but sitting in her tastefully decorated room suddenly gets a guy that drops a 1000 tokens in total then barely types "I will be back" and she says "ok" and the whole thing was over in three minutes. As a model, that must feel great!

Thank you! That was very illuminating! I find this world really fascinating because you have so many different dynamics in play - the model's financial goals and her preferences, the parasocial dynamics of the clients, the rules and goals of the host platform (stripchat, mfc, etc), the "free rider" motivations, etc. etc. And lastly, the studios, which I am completely ignorant about, and how that plays into the mix. Thank you for pointing out simple "altruism"! That was refreshing!! There is a certain hard 'edge' to this world that (generally) reduces all interaction to a "fee for service" business model - or if there is a genuine connection, then the "parasocial relationships are bad" label gets applied. Seriously, that's very cool you help out other models!!!

The part about crying on camera got me! About a month ago, my favorite model suddenly got a phone call and she muted the camera. The tears started rolling down her face like rain as she was frozen in place, clutching the phone to her head. My heart dropped. It was horrible. I waited till she went offline to give her space and PM'd her "it's none of my business but whatever it is I am very sorry, and I hope it quickly passes" and tipped her about $20. She thanked me the next day and whatever it was seems all gone, thankfully!

As per your last question, I get asked this a lot - it's an excellent question and I will try to be brief but technically, I am an "auto didact" and I have an all consuming desire to learn everything I can about whatever has caught my attention. Also, probably ADHD. You are definitely not the first person to find my curiosity "bizarre" lol - It's a blessing/curse dynamic, for sure!

It's actually a double-edged sword. Yeah, she's got $50 in her pocket but the people lurking in the room can very well convince themselves that's all the tokens she needs for the day and just wander away to do fuck all about increasing her payout. It's why I never, ever let the general population know how many goals I've cleared.

Are you sure you've been on stripchat for 3 months? You have any idea how long it would take for the average cam model to reach 1000 different tippers? Depending on the site sometimes there's a mouse over indicator showing how much they tipped recently but given that you were talking about a new model with 8 viewers she's not likely to forget if he stops by in the next day or 2.

Yes, we get to make client notes on most sites. We can also click on client names on many sites and see the full past spending history. It lets us know who we should prioritize in the free chat and attend to first. That's why you might see a model goofing off, shooting the shit, then suddenly stop and focus all her energy on a guy who only just entered. They know eachother long time, and he's spent a lot of money. So he gets full attention and VIP Tx whenever he's around. Unless he's a Sub who wants to be ignored, but then she's still giving him (indirectly) full attention and thought anyway, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I go through my total at the end of the day, most days, and try to take note of anyone who spent a decent amount, more than my average sale for the night.
Guys who come in and drop $50 plus, then leave, definitely would get noted for later. Spending $50 on a show total would be more average, but $50 as a tip, for nothing, would be more noticeable.

This is not gonna be the case as much for guys who drop lower amounts. Not because we aren't grateful and don't appreciate it, but you only have so much space in your head. On a busy, full shift, I might interact with anywhere from 200-5oo guys. And likely have over 100 paid interactions. So, obviously, can't commit every guy to memory. That's 1000s of guys per week. Typically the bigger spenders are the ones who get memorized, and we try our best with everyone else. As a model grows and gets more successful (I've been at this 13 years now), the dollar amount to get yourself noticed more, typically goes up. Because the longer she's at it, the more return high-spending clients she typically accumulates.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This makes perfect sense! The usernames (typically word salad to begin with) would be impossible to remember and keeping a running total would be extremely hard.

Thanks, as well, for the behind the scenes look! It's as difficult as I thought it might be! Remembering preferences (who is a sub, who likes this, who likes that) and tailoring that in real time is impressive. That's got to be a LOT to manage and, at the same time, stay in the groove physically and mentally!
