People have asked me numerous times a week on MFC how fast I type, since they can hear my fingers feverishly tapping away at the keyboard during a PM session. I came across a thread on reddit today and finally decided to go test my speed. It would seem that I have many more errors than I used to, and I'm inclined to think that the fact that most of my typing is on the forum or Twitter or MFC chat is the culprit.

Here's a site to test yourself if you like. Post results! (I used the Basketball theme.)

Edit to add. Whoa, ok. Retook it using the default test "Aesops Tales". This is more like the result I was expecting.

I used the tiger theme and I type 48 wpm.... You are a typing machine. Apparently I save 2.5 hours... I should probably start slacking at my day job so I don't make the other girls (and a boy) look bad.

Can't say I've ever taken a lot of notice of my typing, never attended a course or anything, just geeky skill I suppose.

The irony was that I do usually touch type, with a few mistakes here and there (I use several different keyboards in my day to day life, so key spacings do get confused), but this test says that I don't touch type.

What am I missing? It won't let me share it. :? Maybe I'm just being dense today...

I used the Wizard of Oz test and got 76 wpm with 1 error for an adjusted speed of 75 wpm; which sounds about right for me. A bit rusty and I could use some practice, but not too bad. :)

I used to love those speed typing drills they made us do in Computer class in middle school and high school.

Sorry for the huge image. My son used to play this SpongeBob Typing game. :)

@Fox I used to do similar ones! Except we had a space themed one and if you didn't type fast enough or had too many errors, your space helmet would crack and you'd die. Pretty good motivation to get a 13 year old to learn how to type properly...

I just took a screen shot :D

I took a screen shot, pasted it into the Paint program on my computer, saved it and uploaded it to IMGUR, and then copy/pasted the IMGUR link on here.

They need to make a Transformers typing game where they have the voice of Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) greet you and wish you luck in your mission. Or give you the option to choose from the voice of Optimus Prime, Megatron, or Soundwave...lol.

I've gotten worse over the years. lol When I took typing in HS, I was first in the class. :)

The girls all seem to be faster typers than the boys so far.

Wimmin be typin :-D

I wonder if that trend will hold?
I would bet on it. lol Since the advent of personal computers, the idea of keyboarding being a "girl" thing has faded, but when I was in HS and got the highest typing speed in my class, one of the guys in the locker room jokingly said I must be "part girl." lol I told him, "yeah, but I still ain't fucking you." :D

On a touchscreen keyboard I am not going to attempt the test, but I know from recent test that my speed in around 20MPM... Yea, I know, Why would someone who types so slow use way too many words? IDK.

I used Aesop's fables.

Might've done better, but I kept backspacing to fix my errors... Also, I type faster when it's something I come up with for myself, instead of trying to follow something that someone else thought up for me.

Lastly, I think the characters per minute is a better indication than words per minute, simply because it takes longer to type a really long word, and those words were all over the place.

Hmmm I wonder how fast and accurate you can type while typing with one hand and fapping with the other? I wonder if they have a porn excerpt to type?

I really don't want to know but I am sure that all of the camgirls have the answer form the bloobs in their room

We can't do more than one thing at a time. It is part of our nature

Yes I type faster when my mind is telling me what to type as opposed to my eyeballs and brain having to process the words they see then send that thought to my fingers.

I'm actually quite ecstatic about this. I use to only be 35wpm in my college typing course i took 20 years ago.
