OK, so I'm a little confused (I suspect I know the answer but I'm not 100% sure).

Age verification laws for porn content come into force tomorrow in the UK. Now, I've got an account on a number of platforms. At one point or another, I've purchased tokens on all of them. The age verification thing seems to be non-existent on some and prominent on others,

Stripchat: Been hounding me for verification for weeks now. Did it no problem. I've bought tokens there many times before.
Chaturbate: Not asked me once and the deadline is tomorrow.
Streamate: Not asked me once and the deadline is tomorrow.
Manyvids: Only mentions it before I log in. Tells me to log in to bypass it at which point it is no longer an issue.

My hunch is that some of them are going on the basis that I've bought tokens with a card before and have therefore already verified my age, however I'm slightly edgy that I'll get to tomorrow and something will stop working. Anyone have any insider knowledge on how this is working?

No insider knowledge, but my assumption would be that those who haven't yet were not going to ask for the verification until it is absolutely required. So I would guess when you go to log on to those sites after the clocks officially switch over to July 25, you'll need to verify.

To answer the question, at midnight, the chaturbate homepage asked for age verification (if you were not logged in). One of the age verification options was to log in to a verified account (presumably one you had bought tokens on). As soon as I logged in I was fine.

Might result in a decline in UK greys or more likely an increase in VPN usage.

Sadly, having tokens doesn't count as verification (I didn't think it would but just double-checked). Using a VPN works, so anyone who wants to watch stuff for free can continue to do so (same goes for Pornhub etc.).

However, it will probably have more impact on paying UK users than it does on greys. I stocked up on tokens before 25th July, but once they run out (I use a VPN) I'm not sure I'll be using the age verification (I value my anonymity).

But the policy is to prevent kids from watching pornography. I still have a remaining token balance and can still view and tip. Presumably I won't have any further issues. Would be senseless to still allow me to view after the legislation came in and only apply the law once I purchase.

I suspect the law will be less than effective at stopping kids watching pornography (so long as they have the ability to use a VPN). People seeing porn before they can legally do so is not a new thing (it used to be porn mags discarded in the local woods).

But either I'm missing your main point or you are missing mine.

I have a token balance (all tokens purchased before the law came into effect). But I haven't verified my age on CB so I can only view and tip if I use a VPN. And I can't buy any more tokens (the payment method I use on CB is anonymous but it requires me to have a UK IP address or the transaction won't work).

What I'm telling you is that I did not verify my age and can both view AND tip. The law relates to viewing, not tipping. If I wasn't verified then I wouldn't be able to view. In SC if you go try to access without a login, every stream is blurred.

I can understand why having a card doesn't automatically mean you're old enough. How many people do you think take their parents or other relatives cards to do stuff.
But I swear I did see a "card verification" option on Stripchat when I was doing mine - it was at the bottom.

But yeah it was super simple to do, and I have not been asked on Any other site yet, only SC. Some I HAVE already verified on, for example CB on my main account and SC main account, but I was asked on another account for SC (. But nothing on any account for CB or anywhere else so far.

In the states, children as young as 13 can get a debit card. Parents are supposed to monitor the account and it's supposed to be tied to their email and phone # but many parents would rather not know and just add money as needed.

Today my best customer wrote me email that he will not gonna visit me anymore because of this law. He dont wanna upload ID and face scans onto internet. Anyone from UK tried to use VPN ? Im curious if i can advice this to this man.

It's certainly unusual for him to say that. I'm in the UK, NOT using a VPN and didn't have to do any face verification. I've simply been able to continue using my chaturbate account as per normal. I'm assuming that having a verified credit card on record is considered enough to verify my age. We're two days into this law and while the chaturbate homepage is indeed prompting you for age verification (if you are not logged into an account), logging in bypasses this requirement.

The law is very clear. I know that some porn sites are not complying but Chaturbate seems to be. It would seem to me that the interpretation of the law is such is that someone who has already verified their age using a credit card (only available to those aged 18+) is considered to be verified for the purposes of this law.

wowowow this is helpful!! thanks!!

I just used the facial scan - took two minutes: so easy.

Terms say they don’t store the image, anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️
I'm still confused though. If we are both in the UK, both with active accounts where we previously bought tokens, how come you had to verify and I didn't?

I don’t have a membership with CB though… just StripChat!

I only went on Bongacams to test the VPN earlier.

Italy is doing it too. I got DMs on X from fans who are now unable to see my X page. Although they are saying it's only X, so far. So maybe the date for it to come in to full effect there, hasn't hit yet.
I'm glad that Italy isn't buying the idea that only 33% or less of X's content is porn.

It's actually a significant pain in the hole. Not because it's impossible to circumvent (a VPN gets round it easily) but because it gets in the way when you could least do with it happening. The perception is that it's a porn thing, but it's much wider than that. Discord communities, Reddit etc etc all use it. More annoyingly, there's not a single, cross platform verification service that works for everything. Eventually people will stop using certain services just because the cost and hassle of spinning up a VPN connection is a pain. Yes, you could leave a VPN connection set to a non-UK country running all the time but that just fucks with all the other stuff, like what news is served up to you and whether you can access critical stuff like UK government services. Badly thought out and totally counter-productive. Let's be honest, kids will just find a way round this like they've been finding a way round everything for time immemoriam. In fact, finding another way to access porn might put them in more danger than the porn that the legislation is trying to prevent them accessing.

The times I've bought a vpn service it's only been like $5. I do concede that they can slow down computer stuff though, and are kind of a pain in the ass when they are set to autostart everytime you turn your computer on.

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought all you had to do was enter in some ID info and be good to go?
Why would anyone need a VPN? Am I missing something here?

Is it one of those face scan services that don't work properly half the time? Those are a huge hassle. Several of the sites I work on use those, and it can take up to an hour to get them to work correctly and OK you. But if I were a big porn spender,. I'd persist with it, because porn. If I was one of those boring, annoying assholes that cruises constantly, never spending, trying to stir up shit and pointless conversations, I wouldn't though. So in that regard, I'm kinda happy. That group of people are so exhausting and draining. Another hobby for them would be a great thing.

On a related note SM is adding safe for work pics in, so that people in states with the new age verification laws in place, can still see some pictures of the model. My guess would be that's aimed more at the guys who find a certain person strikes all their chords, and sign up to sites just for that model. Which does appear to happen relatively frequently.

I've no objection to verifying myself on a service that I use regularly such as a cam-site. However, it is now in place for anything (porn or otherwise) where the content is deemed to be 18+. As a result, a passing, two-minute visit to something on the web would require account creation, verification and then sign-in. For something you might never access again.
