Flashback to my years of being a stripclub DJ LOL
"Are 'Friends' Electric?"
It's cold outside
And the paint's peeling off of my walls
There's a man outside
In a long coat, grey hat, smoking a cigarette
Now the light fades out
And I wonder what I'm doing
In a room like this
There's a knock on the door
And just for a second I thought
I remembered you
So now I'm alone
Now I can think for myself
About little deals
And issues
And things that I just don't understand
A white lie that night
Or a sly touch at times
I don't think it meant anything to you
So I open the door
It's the 'friend' that I'd left in the hallway
'Please sit down'
A candlelit shadow on a wall near the bed
You know I hate to ask
But are 'friends' electric?
Only mine's broke down
And now I've no-one to love
So I found out your reasons
For the phone calls and smiles
And it hurts
And I'm lonely
And I should never have tried
And I missed you tonight
It must be time to leave
You see it meant everything to me
Were there any songs or tracks that you noticed got people particularly heated ie horny and spending?Flashback to my years of being a stripclub DJ LOL
Honestly, not really. The performer would make or break the song. You could take a timeless sexy song like Leave your Hat On by Joe Cocker but if an entertainer could not vibe with it or move to it, the song choice is moot. A good entertainer with the moves and sensuality would take the song to another level. For the most part, the music is just a beat to dance and move to. The performer on stage is what sells it.Were there any songs or tracks that you noticed got people particularly heated ie horny and spending?

Thanks, I kinda thought this was going to be the answer. But, you never know.Honestly, not really. The performer would make or break the song. But even the best of entertainers, if given music that they did not know or could not vibe with, would have a sub-par performance.
Yeah. Otherwise it's mainly just a matter of reading the room to identify music that will be a mood killer for the audience and not play that. Thanks, I kinda thought this was going to be the answer. But, you never know.
This tracks also. For example, there is a great rule of thumb that whatever music you are into at 18yo to mid-twenties, you'll kinda dig for the rest of your life. So if the rooms average age is 55, do the backwards math to find what was real popular in that time period and it will play well. Likewise when most of the room is 20-30yo, the music you play is going to be a LOT newer and edgier.
Yeahahahah lol
You know it's referring to Heroin right? Smack is heroin. Uuugh. The original video is actually a female POV, and got banned because conservative Americans love censoring things they don't fully understand.I really enjoy revisiting the Prodigy, but confess to being a bit conflicted by SMBU..... never thought much about that one back in the day but I do now.
I might give them a listen later, I got a bunch of responses I;m trying to work through in order right now. But thank you Sweetie.@MarieElise What do you think of Dool above?
Dutch band.
The vocals in that song were sampled and slightly altered from 'Give the Drummer Some' by Ultramegnetic MCs, and the original lyrics by Kool Keith are "Switch up, change my pitch up, Smack my bitch up, like a pimp".You know it's referring to Heroin right? Sorry man, that one just kind of irritates me.
There's a huge DV problem in the US, so ofcourse it's huge everywhere else too, right /s
I try really hard to be patient with projection, but that one just fucking annoys me.
Whatever Rod. Whatever. This thread was becoming a chore anywaysThe vocals in that song were sampled and slightly altered from 'Give the Drummer Some' by Ultramegnetic MCs, and the original lyrics by Kool Keith are "Switch up, change my pitch up, Smack my bitch up, like a pimp".
I also recall the original video clip that was banned in many locations, and what it depicted.
But happy to leave that one as a point of difference.
I don't know Gomez, so will give that one a listen.I’m in the kitchen drinking a glass of rubbish white wine and listening to Gomez.

The kitchen is where I most often listen to music, usually while cooking or tidying up - and often with a drink or two![]()
