Hey guys! I was just wondering how you have dealt with people you know finding out you cam? I've had a couple people I know come into my room and make themselves known to me. The fact that I cam isn't a complete secret but I also don't know if I'm ready for it to become a widely known fact. I come from a town that is infamous for spreading gossip. So how have you all handled it? Or do you have any tips to help me not get brought down by people I know finding out and taking to it negatively?

I'm not a model so cant give you any advice about dealing with your friends and family but you can and probably should always block your State at least then no one close to you can see you or come into your room. Of course there are ways around this but its a lot less likely someone you know will bother to do this.

These are the most relevant threads i can find regarding your questions...

Also, if you're worried about being discovered by people you know irl, here are a couple threads regarding the possible risk of having a facebook page (if you're a user of fb) while cam modeling...

One last thing, there's possibly more insight/discussion in the "Model's Only" section, but you need to get yourself verified as a model first. You can start that here...

hey Rox, I have the same worry sometimes but I think theres a way you can block the town or state your in,it might come in handy in this situation.

just ignore and live your life...apeople talk negatively about celebrities too - if you do what you love then sometimes people are simply jealous you feel free enough to do what you love and get paid for it too and if it is a road less traveled all the more people will be jealous that you have the courage to live this way - frankly I really don't see what is so different from what girls do on myfreecams to what marilyn monroe did in her calendar or sharon stone in a movie...

Thank you guys! I didn't know about the feature to block a certain state. That will help me rest easy. I posted this because I had accidentally shared a couple videos from my manyvids site into my personal Twitter and even though I deleted the posts I can't be sure no one saw them. I was just shaken up about it. Thank you violet for the boost of confidence!

My bosses in my old work found out about my twitter .. I had to go in for a meeting and I was in tears. I ended up leaving that job anyway and just camming. It was difficult as I liked to keep my twitter public so I got more followers but I also knew people from the work would be viewing it. This all happened almost a year ago but now it means nothing to me .. if people come in my room that know me I give them a chance to be a member of the room like everyone else and sit and talk and play the games etc .. but like anyone else if they are in to be rude they are silenced and then out.

I was so tempted to give it up out of embarrassment at first but im glad I didn't ... I know now that so many everyday girls do cam modeling .. girls who are paying for student loans , girls who are earning extra cash to raise their kids .. just normal women .. not sluts or tarts and in no way prostitution which is another one I have heard lol . There is no shame in camming.

Has anyone had trouble getting jobs after camming? I know that if you are qualified to perform a job and they don't hire you it could be discrimination and you could sue but I'd like to hear some personal anecdotes about that. If I am in the wrong thread let me know

@Rox240 I don't do it, but I know a couple of cammers who block states on ManyVids as well.

Uh, say what? Mind quoting the law that says it's discrimination if they don't hire you based on you having been a sex worker? Cause I don't think that one exists.

I'll give ya a good webpage to start looking for it. http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/qanda.html

Why is there still so much social stigma against people in the adult industry?

I think it's a whole lot of things that add up to one big stigma - things like religion, puritanism, institutionalised sexism, the Madonna/Whore complex, media representation of sex workers, envy, insecurity, rape culture, young girls being taught from a young age that their virginity is precious, prejudices and hypocrisy... there's a lot of stuff there to overcome for a lot of people, ya know?

But sex has become really popular in TV, Film, and Music. Its a huge crowd pleaser.

While in the USA it might not be discrimination (will to work and such) in many provinces in Canada it absolutely is and a complaint may be filed to the human rights commission of that province if "source of income" is listed as a grounds in the act/charter/code for the province and it wasn't some kind of bona fide occupational requirement you not have been nudie on the internet.

As far as the OP goes .... log off all your personal stuff BEFORE you do cam things. Clear your history. all. the. time. Also do not connect all your accounts if you have personal and separate accounts. Use diff. e-mail addresses. This is all stuff that's been talked about before. I realize the OP posted forever ago but I am too ashamed to delete my response after writing it out.

I'm not gonna get too personal with my answer to this, but I just wanted to let you know that no, I haven't had any trouble getting jobs.

I honestly follow this mind set:
Someone you know is going to find out, but who cares?
They ain't putting money in your pockets. You are.
So those other people, don't matter.

Since I've posted this I've blocked states on all websites I use that allows me too. That have given me peace of mind for sure. I've started using seperate browsers for my personal and cam accounts so I don't have another accident again.

As for work after camming, I can't be too much help with that. My current job doesn't know and the job I've interviewed for recently doesn't know either. I'm not a very well known cam model so I think that helps me out. I also don't mention it on my résumé either.

Since I posted this thread I've realized that I tend to care too much about what others think about me and that is the root cause of why I was so worried about people finding out about this. It's definitely something I'm still working on.

Thank you again for everyone's helpful advice on here!

I wanted to add blocking your state is not foolproof though it can help. If someone wants to get around it they probably will. With that said, you should just expect yourself to get found out while your doing it & maybe after if you decide to find a new job. What is put on the interwebs will likely stay there & if someone knows the right keywords to plug in they can usually find it. It is easier to expect the worst & have it never happen then to be totally unprepared for something like this to happen.

Good luck.

I used to block my home/current state, but then I unblocked them to get more traffic. Geo-blocking is also not a full-proof plan on hiding your camming identity (though it will help).

Honestly I wish I didn't have to keep my camming life a secret. I have told my close friends and my family will probably find out. I keep it a secret because it's easier to deal with acquaintances and normal life. I wish all camgirlz (and sex workers) could be open and honest about what we do so that it could become a normalized thing, but I also don't want people gossiping about me or saying mean things behind my back...so I'll keep quiet....FOR NOW ;)

I love myself and I love what I do. If you can't handle me and what I do then we were probably never meant to be friends.

i was JUST thinking about this. Last night a friend of mine mentioned she had heard i was camming and i was like wth who said that?! only like two people know...most people think i just write porn..so they know my job is sexual in nature but not exactly what i do..i just prefer to keep it quiet because i also live in a small town..people make a big enough deal when they know i write erotica i cant imagine if they knew i cammed!

Sorry to hear about that. Do you live in a politically conservative area?
