Why has nudity been declining in American cinema?

Boobs, check, ever present. Nipples? CGI variations at the choice of the actress today. Penis? Almost always a prop, except maybe Jason Segel. Labia? That's why merkins were invented.

Why is nudity being replaced with CGI? Rule 34, subsection 2 - no need now. If you want to see your favorite actor nude you can probably do so on a tube site. It's refreshing, we can watch a movie and judge it for its worth, not boost it because someone took her top off.

This one isn't politics, folks. If this topic was from 2002 when Ashcroft was the AG, sure, different take. Now, nah.

Yeah. Its because of the internet. Most guys would pefer to go online and watch 2 people have unsimulated sex instead of just seeing T&A.

Are you not American or something? I never thought I would see someone ask this.

I am from the UK but didn't think 9/11 would have had anything to do with nudity in cinema so I thought it couldn't possibly be that although it was the only big thing I could think of from 2001. I was thinking there was some other big censorship thing or something that either didn't make the news over here or I was just too young back then to remember.

I'm from the US, watched 9/11 live as it happened on TV and still didn't jump to 9/11 as being the thing in 2001 either, for the exact reason you described.

'Observe and Report' and 'Captain Fantastic' really used the penis as a fun part of the movie. I like those movies and it seemed like they might have gotten some attention on talk shows and such. I also have that movie 'Brown Bunny' but that isn't a real penis (and it wasn't a funny movie).

I have to say I was sort of obsessed with cable tv growing up (I even tried to watch those cable channels we didn't get for hours on end that were scrambled screens just trying to see something!). It was really the only place to see boobs. Tough times. Tough times. Obviously this was before cgi and before the the internet and when it was a big deal to see a nudie magazine or, later, vhs porn. It really doesn't seem all that difficult to see naked peoples these days. God, soooo much time wasted as a youth trying to see a naked woman. I'd feel ashamed but I really needed to know the difference between man and woman. It was soooo secretive in my life. So much sexual freedom now.
