"Ewwy"...Lol. My dad says this one often and it's just so hard to take him seriously when he does. I know it's a habit from when my siblings and I were little, but we're all adults now so he doesn't have a reason to say it anymore.

Not a word so much that men should not use, but a word that haunts me, b/c I can't seem to not use it or find any good alternative much of the time. It absolutely frustrates me. "Absolutely", something I don't like about the word, but continue to use it.

Well, actually, I don't get this stuff. Why would you talk like that to your kids?
Speak like a human being when you communicate with your children, it will make them develop a better understanding of language and a clearer reasoning. Making up stories and words for children just limits their brains. Did you know that new born babies have the most connections in the brain, but that the body then cuts off the ones that are not in use. This is why children need to start thinking and using their brains as early as possible. Of course you don't talk to a child as if you're talking to one of your mates, but the best way to speak to children is to talk properly and use words that they might not understand (because they'll ask you what it means and build vocabulary). It is also very good to actually explain how things really are, don't explain away things you don't know or don't think they'll understand with fairies and unicorns.
Once when I was little I asked my kindergarten teacher why babies get baptised. She told me it's to keep the ogars from taking them. Luckily my mother was there to correct her, otherwise I'd be getting nightmares because I'm not baptised. I was only about 5 years old, but when mom told me the real reason I understood it completely.
I think people underestimate kids.

But, yeah, why are we shielding kids from reality? It just makes it all that much harder when you grow up and have to face it!
I tend to think using kiddy words isn't shielding kids, it's age appropriate. If a 3 year old child comes in from playing with a fresh cut on their knee crying their eyes out, believing they're going to die because they've never felt that kind of pain or saw blood coming out of their body before... the term boo-boo along with a soothing tone seems way more comforting than saying "Ah crap, that laceration might need stitches."
P.S. Alice sometimes reminds me a bit of the character Temperance on Bones.

The word "Boo-boo" doesn't exist in Swedish, we don't have a word like it - we simply say we hurt ourselves. Works great.
And I'm not saying that you shouldn't tell stories to your kids! It's very important for kids (and humans in general) to be allowed to imagine and fantasise - the difference is if you mix the stories with reality or not and if you are giving false answers. Just telling a story is fine, but telling a story instead of answering a question is essentially lying to your kid.

I appreciate what you are saying but i just cannot agree, if we are to take your example, a "boo-boo" (grrr) might need stitches,it might not but its healthy for kids to fall over and get hurt, they bounce straight back up

You speak as if you think English is the only complicated language in the world and no other language possibly could be nuanced and complex enough to measure up.
