I'll start...
"I'm totally going to the Justin Bieber concert. He's so dreamy."
"So, when do you turn 18?"

LOL.. I guess some of you guys havent been mommy and daddy yet... These are kiddy words that we "assimilate" despite our not wanting to, while raising the hatchlings. Sometimes after raising 2 or more a few years apart, you tend to forget the company you're in and they slip into adult conversations.
I seem to have been able to kick the habit, but not before I used them many times in th wrong places.
Now however,I seem to be working "MFC speak" into some daily convos. Imagine the look of "WTH" if you were 'not of MFC' or camlife and you heard a guy say "Mmmm teeeps me to do that BB's !!"
Life is a parade. You might as well enjoy it and get the lolz where u find them.

Well, actually, I don't get this stuff. Why would you talk like that to your kids?
Speak like a human being when you communicate with your children, it will make them develop a better understanding of language and a clearer reasoning. Making up stories and words for children just limits their brains. Did you know that new born babies have the most connections in the brain, but that the body then cuts off the ones that are not in use. This is why children need to start thinking and using their brains as early as possible. Of course you don't talk to a child as if you're talking to one of your mates, but the best way to speak to children is to talk properly and use words that they might not understand (because they'll ask you what it means and build vocabulary). It is also very good to actually explain how things really are, don't explain away things you don't know or don't think they'll understand with fairies and unicorns.
Once when I was little I asked my kindergarten teacher why babies get baptised. She told me it's to keep the ogars from taking them. Luckily my mother was there to correct her, otherwise I'd be getting nightmares because I'm not baptised. I was only about 5 years old, but when mom told me the real reason I understood it completely.
I think people underestimate kids.
Sorry, off topic rant. Just really had to say that![]()

Marry Me?
It really fucks me off too, Its not a choo-choo, its a fucking train and you'll miss it
Its not a woof-woof, Its a dog and it'll tear your arm off
The puss-puss will scrach your eyes out if you pull its tail..
WE protect our children from LIFE, Why? Its worked for centuries why would it fail now? If we keep circumventing natural selection we are doomed as a race, no matter how "intelligent" we think we are
Bocefish said:I tend to think using kiddy words isn't shielding kids, it's age appropriate. If a 3 year old child comes in from playing with a fresh cut on their knee crying their eyes out, believing they're going to die because they've never felt that kind of pain or saw blood coming out of their body before... the term boo-boo along with a soothing tone seems way more comforting than saying "Ah crap, that laceration might need stitches."
P.S. Alice sometimes reminds me a bit of the character Temperance on Bones.![]()
Edited to add, lying to kids to freak them out like the baptism thing isn't cool, but I still think kids should have a chance to believe in things like the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Imaginations sometimes need to be cultured.

"Bones" is the series, and it isn't bad in english. I'm not sure most of it would translate very well though.

I know the series.
I also know English, in case you've missed that. Why would I need it translated?

Just saying the language is sublte, you would have to watch it in English as a translation would just be weird.
AliceDoe said:Again, WHY the hell WOULDN'T I watch it in English??
Edit: Also, are you bilingual? I am, and I know that anything (except some cases of word-play) can be translated if the translator is good enough.

Gee, maybe "some cases of word play" might be the reason I'm suggesting that it would not translate well.
