I wonder if the alleged "protections" streamate has about the video not being recordable are easy to get around. Thoughts, anyone?

You tell me.

FRzy56a.gif
Yep, if you can see it on your monitor, it can be recorded. No way around that.

Does Streamate seriously make claims about "protections"? Their streaming format is Flash, isn't it? Anyone with FRAPS could cap that. Maybe they mean they're aggressive about DMCA takedowns? :dontknow:

Bumping this bc I'm really considering to get back on cam & I want it to be an informed choice. I'm guessing other ppl will agree with me.

Hey! This post already has SOOO much amazing information and advice, what new info are you hoping might be added? Do you have any specific questions?

Nothing much, just thinking newer boys/girls who might not have this information and might need it, might not know this thread exists :) as far as I'm aware, this isn't stickied. (Which is a shame, really.)

It is stickied in General Camming Discussion, actually, and has been for quite a while.

I doubt their friends would ever come across me on the internet. And if they did, their reaction would probably be something like, "So?! Got a problem with that?" just like when anyone starts up with homophobic rants. And it would be probably be followed by, "And what the fuck are you looking at my MOM for, you sick fuck? I don't go looking for naked pics of YOUR mom!"

Nikole

this i s the truth though

I caught the tail end of this conversation but if Streamate is claiming they protect against this OMFG that is bullshit. NOTE I have not seen or heard or read anything from Streamate claiming this.

Anyone can download a trial of/buy camtasia studio. With that, you can record anything on your screen. It is 100% impossible for ANY cam site to protect against that.

I've had shows recorded and spread around. The first time it happened, I cried (honestly!). But Ive since gotten used to it.

There's nothing the sites can do about it, so I don't blame them.

It's an entirely different picture though if they are claiming they can/do prevent it. That's a flat out lie.

If you google your cam name, you will see that someone HAS screenshotted and/or recorded your whole session. When I first saw that I was horrified, but then I got over it. I'm taking the risk and if anyone I know has a problem with me doing what I choose to do, they can not talk to me. :p

The day I got into the sex industry... 1992... I knew my anonymity was history. And that was before the internet was a common consideration. I tried to explain this to any/every girl I have ever spoken with that was considering getting into this industry.I do not have experience shame, but do have my pride and self satisfaction to please. I will not and have not done anything I did not want to (without illegal physical force, coercion, etc). Draw your lines, but make them fluid as you live life and experience things. I do not have a "criminal mind," so I missed a lot of things early on, but did end up meeting men that explained the horridness that exists. And that was when I realized that my expectation of anything and everything I ever do possibly being broadcast for all to see that first day was the right call. Today it is simply a matter of ease, and saturation. Plan for the worst to happen, celebrate when it does not :)

I find myself being thwarted by the fact that I'm a sex worker somewhat often... it's definitely something I was prepared for when I signed up. Whether it's making dating or making friends weird or having to be extra cautious when signing up for bank accounts, it honestly doesn't bug me that much that there are adverse consequences to my job because I mentally prepared myself for some hardship. I know it can get a lot worse and I'm hoping that no one ever harasses my family or friends.
I definitely agree with Janelle when she says "Plan for the worst to happen, celebrate when it does not."

I am 100% fooling myself when I think that my parents won't find out.
I'm prepared if it happens though

My dad will never understand AND he'll never forgive me.
HOWEVER, I PERSONALLY feel like I keep my dignity more intact doing a job of my choosing and doing what I want on my own terms rather than working minimum wage for an asshole boss
for shitty costumers that I MUST let walk all over me because "the costumer is always right"
for a insane supervisor on a power-trip

No man, I'm gonna do me.

HOWEVER, I PERSONALLY
And by this I mean in a personality and circumstantial sense.
I live in a medium sized town with hirings primarily for part-time low wage work, trucking, or heavy swing shift labor... which I cannot do due to my idiot garbage body.
I don't mean to drag on folks who do work at such places
I am just in a place where I have the opportunity to work what I want, as long as it adds to the general house-hold income.
Camming isn't a last ditch option, it's a personal choice that I've thought hard and long about... as everyone should.

The only thing that bothers me is my dad finding out. Honestly though, do the women in all the playboy's he subscribed to deserve to be cast aside by their loved ones for their career choice? Naw man, naw.
And heck, if any person -ESPECIALLY if they partake in porn- think less of you, cut em out, you don't need that sort of negativity in your life.

I get the sentiment but why is op so mad, I felt like you were yelling at me lol
A lot of people are very naive about the realities of this industry. Even if you never "make it big" you can be capped or it can affect you down the road. These people need it put bluntly that if they are not prepared for this, they shouldn't engage in sex work.

I never really got what would be so bad about getting "found out" though. But, I don't have much friends and am not close to my family whatsoever lol as long as you keep your name a secret, I don't really see what's so bad about being recorded. Am I naive for not caring? Cause I wonder sometimes lol

Not to be mean, but that is pretty naive. If you ever want a job outside of the sex industry, especially if it's with the government or placing you in contact with children, it could disqualify you or get you fired. At some point you may have a significant other and even if they're OK with it, their coworkers/family may not be and it can cause trouble for them as well if they catch on. Even beyond things like that, if a particularly malicious person you see IRL finds out (coworker, classmate, even someone who serves you regularly in a store or restaurant), they may harass/stalk you and could even incite others to do the same. If you really, truly don't care I hope you have a backup plan if sex work fails you.

I literally don't want a job like that, I don't care about relationship problems, and I am actually in college planning to be a creative writing professor so thanks I actually do have a plan for when I decide that I am finished with sex work, not when I fail.

I actually told my parents because I wanna go back to camming so bad and i was surprised they were so supportive but yeah, even tho having family support is amazing not everyone around will be, like lucyspoon said.

I'd say the odds are high that getting a job in academia, would be affected by being a former sex worker. Now some sex worker have gone on to be college professors, but I bet that for every woman who has done it many have been hurt by the revelation. It still involves teaching kids and English departments aren't known for being the most progressive.

It's fine to not care. I think we throw around the word "naive" when girls think they can avoid being recorded, or that having explicit adult images of themselves on the Internet forever will never affect them in their future.

@Tristeprincesa

The tone and harshness from the OP (mind you this was many years ago) is due to the many girls out there who get into camming and then cry and whine when they get recorded and posted on the Internet. Many people don't consider the consequences and jump into camming for what they think will be easy fast money. I'm not sure why you're taking this thread so personally.

(I'm replying to posts that were deleted, before anyone thinks I'm talking to myself. )

I just see this blog*** as a support group and don't understand the harshness of op who isn't even a camer themselves. Not taking it personally lmao I have no friends and this is one of the few places on the internet I go to help alleviate my anxiety. It wa my fault for going in this thread because it's obviously not the most positive, but having had everyone so negatively reply I'm just gonna go lol
