I know I shouldn't laugh at the clinically insane but it's hard not to sometimes :?

What a drama queen. It's interesting when some of the people who run around calling themselves Christians wind up being the ones who are nasty/negative when something doesn't go their way (or according to their beliefs). Dislike Obama all you want, and I've heard him called all sorts of things, but evil??? She's probably had a stick up her ass from the moment she found out he's in favor of same-sex marriages.

My mom said one of her co-workers (annoying lady who won't STFU that if you're pregnant, you HAVE to have the baby!) claimed she's not coming to work if Obama wins...lol. Silly people.....

And am I the only one who had goosebumps during his speech when he included the line "gay or straight" toward the end? It's just nice to hear it said loud and proud during such a huge event.

Well that stock market has spoken Dow down 275 and S&P down 30 (2.1%) worse day of the year.

I'm not sure that taking low stock market numbers (too many variables in a global economic network) and connecting to Obama victory is the right thing to do. I agree with this article final words: "In other words, Wall Street will get over it".

I feel kinda bad that I was tired, and was JUST waking up from the couch to see 'President Obama Re-elected' on the screen. :) I need to watch a video clip of the speech though. I was so tired (didn't even get on cam) that I can't even remember something that I SHOULD remember.

Someone on FB posted a screenshot of Kevin Hart's reaction. I share his emotion, but I thought his usage of the word 'nigga' was a bit overkill...lol.

i'm happy it worked out the way it did.....but this country is a mess
the popular vote was so close because in the the big urban states, obama won by 2-10% points.....but in palins "real america" romney won by 10-40% points

palin's real america scared the hell out of McCain....but Romney seem much more comfortable with it....next time?
i'm glad i can stick my head back in the sand for another 4 years.

oh, and on an only somewhat tangential note....Los Angeles county passed a "porn shoots must be done with condoms" law last night.....so much for the San Fernando Valley being the heart of the porn industry.....

I agree. That isn't the main reason I didn't want the bill to pass, but I agree.

I have been reading conservative blogs on and off all day. They are calling Mitt a flip flopping liberal, and not a real Republican. One is even blaming congress for not shutting down the entire government to make Obama look bad. They are also saying that they need to move even further right, and double down on things like abortion. They seem to have learned nothing.

From everything I read it just sounds like a complete waste of money to fix a problem that doesn't really exist, especially not to the degree proponents of the measure were trying to make it out to be.

Unfortunately, and confirmed by a twitter convo I had last night, the mainstream public wasn't informed enough about this and just voted YES thinking it was a completely positive change.

I'm really at a loss here. Republicans think Mitt lost because he wasn't far enough right? Who did those people vote for? No one? Then fuck em. He was their best bet and they let him down. I think they're delusional though. I really want to not feel forced into voting for my President based on who has the best chance of beating the social conservatism nut jobs. Stop trying to control LGBT and women's rights and a LOT of people will feel more comfortable voting for them.

Oh... and seriously... cut spending all you want (inevitably from social services first) but trickle down economics is dumb.

Yeah I agree, if they didn't pander to the religious nutjobs they'd get a lot more mainstream support.

And this thread did not self destruct?

Seriously, congratulations to the President and his re-election. The American people have spoken.

My guy didn't win. In fact my guy wasn't even on the ballot.

I have no love for either of the two relevant parties. If you want to dwell on what the party wonks from either side say, more power to you, but we all have a lot more in common than what either side would have you believe. I really despise the divisiveness that has become prevalent.

The shills on either side deserve to be called out and made fun of. But remember, with the popular vote being close to a 50-50 split, when you're taking shots at the wonks, you are also at risk of offending half of the population. Your neighbors, your co-workers, etc., just because they don't agree with your choice of candidates.

That is all. Carry on.

I feel bad for republicans who run for office slightly in that regard, you get in bed with the GOP you get in bed with the christian right and suddenly you're saying you're pro life in all cases and come off sounding like you're defending a rapist and punishing the woman so congrats you sound like double the douchenozzle just to make a small amount of people happy.

Is it just me or is it the more the world moves forward the more outdated the GOP come off? Anti-woman, anti-gay, Wanting to go forward by moving backwards. in 2016 please put this theory to the test, please go even further extreme to the right and see how many more votes that get you.

We are not making fun of the Republicans who are willing to work with Obama. We are making fun of the Republicans who are acting like Obama being elected is the end of the world. We are making fun of the Republicans who think that Romney was too middle-of-the-road to win. What they don't realize is that they still have power in Congress, so they can still get shit done even with Obama in office. What they don't realize is that the only reason it WAS so close is that Romney was middle-of-the-road.

Part of me actually hopes they do veer off the middle course, because that will be shooting themselves in their feet, and maybe leave room for a third party to finally push its way in, and push the nutjobs out once and for all.

Here's what I heard:

Before the election:

Republicans: If you vote for Obama, I'll never speak to you again! You are dead to me, you hear? DEAD!
Democrats: Why the fuck will you vote for Romney? Oh well, lets work together no matter what the outcome!

After the election:

Republicans: This nation is fucked. We're all going to die. No point in continuing.
Democrats: Wait, what? Come on, we still have a chance here!

I only hope that enough Republicans wake up and realize that it's nowhere close to the end of the world, and start actually trying to save this country instead of just trying to give all the people's money to the corporations.

yeah....i think what a lot of us heard today was a victory dance, with all the featherless chickens of the christian far right squawking in the fire they hoped would light the world.....in some ways, i actually feel bad for mitt, being the one guy his party chose to unite the increasingly bizarre extremists in his camp with those who are simply fiscal conservatives, and believe (in some very real ways, rightly, imo) that government is too big and controlling, and economic and personal freedom is a bond not to be fucked with.....

to me...it's a shining example of how the fringes that detest each other are actually sitting side by side....they just can't see it, because ideology has blinded them to personality

and in the end....obama had enough vision and political savvy to appeal to more people....makes him smarter, but not necessarily any better.

Oh... and seriously... cut spending all you want (inevitably from social services first) but trickle down economics is dumb.

a lesson for everyone :thumbleft:
but also a big savory onion that adds a unique flavor to a lot of agendas

once the red folks accept that the 21st century on this planet will be created by consumerism and corporate investments on a GLOBAL scale....things which (will have to eventually, if capitalism is actually a viable system of determining a pecking order) leave morality and freedom to the individual...the environment and safety nets to communities (aka governments)....maybe then, we can all sit down and figure out a direction for the future.

until then....the future will be black, a shadow cast from the whiteness that is the past.....and no....that's got nothing to do with a black guy talking from the white house.

For sure, but how much more invasive, controlling and anti-personal freedom could you get than telling you who you can marry and whether you can get an abortion

To those people, I'd like to suggest getting involved in the Libertarian Party. They're more fiscally conservative than Republicans in many ways and without all the social conservatism BS. There's a lot of Libertarian ideas that scare me when I read about them but I have to admit on the occasions I heard Gary Johnson speak, I felt swayed by a lot what he had to say in large part because I felt like he believed every word of it personally rather than feeling he was just saying what his party was all about. There was logic behind everything rather than just chanting that "Our way is the right way, and if you question it, you hate America!"

He's made occasional appearances in a few other threads, but that was prior to the election. Maybe he's taking a short break from the forum.
