My favorite covers are usually ones that make me smile or laugh:

Laibach won't be to everyone's taste but I have been a huge fan since the late 80s:

I've ALWAYS loved this cover by the deftones. It's such a great song originally, but there is something about the way chino does it that just....gahhhh

Yeah, I'm older too (well, alright, I'm 27, but I feel about 50) so I'm partial to the Skynyrd version. This is cool though. Very true to the original, which is for the best. Had they tried to change too much about it, it would have been poopy. That does mean that it doesn't really sound like a Deftones song though (which I guess it's not :)).
Incidentally, I thought the last Deftones album was the best thing they've ever done. Sex Tape, You've Seen The Butcher, Rocket Skates, Beauty School and CMND/CNTRL are the fucking mad notes, yo.

I agree. It's their best album IMO. I just heard two new songs from them on youtube from their upcoming album. It sounds like it's going to be just as good.

you've seen the butcher is always first on any sex tape I make.

Apologies if this has already been posted. Raabe does covers like no one else

I wish I could go back and edit my original post, but George Michael did this awesomely (yeah, I know that's not a word).

Reggae Beat it cover. They covered the whole Thriller album, which seems pretty good, from what I've heard so far.

Don't know about "best," but here are a few I enjoy. Not sure I'd call some of them great art, but they're fun!

Theme from the Mary Tyler Moore Show:

Lots of good covers of Springsteen songs out there. Here's one. (already saw another Bruce cover from this band in the thread)

Cover of the Banana Splits theme (an old kids' show):

Is it truly a cover song if the original artist is involved in it? Just the first two songs

Dream Theater does a lot of cover songs live.

Then you have some incredible youtube only people. Does all the guitar parts and sometimes does vocals (midi drums and bass usually)

I wish this pizza place was closer to me. Or do I? I can only eat so much pizza

Sorry, just meant the first song :woops: I had another cover in mind but got distracted when I found Coal Chamber

When terrible movies meet great soundtracks:

I cannot figure out how to post youtube :( I am technology challenged :(

Fright Night had a decent cast and a great soundtrack but I still feel like I wasted an hour and a half of my life... Maybe finding this song was worth it...

I remember not liking that film (loved the original) but Shazam-ing the shit out of that song when I heard it :-D

Im not embedding cause this page is freezing on me.. but

Epic one here: Baby got Back, jonathon Coulton...
think you can't make it a love song? oh he did... he did...
http://youtu.be/Ltjbnyvq_SI

I'll embed a version for you, since it is a great cover.

On an odd note, Glee is doing Baby Got Back this week. Here's the kicker, they're using the JoCo version.... and they never asked him about it. They even kept the 'Johnny C's in trouble' line. Here's someone playing both versions simultaneously, the music is practically identical and the timing on lyrics is only slightly off.

I'm not saying JoCo should get full credit for the song, since it is originally by Sir Mix-A-Lot and all, but he should at least be given credit for his arrangement, which is significantly different than that of the original.
