Just to cover your ass morally I would always encourage them not to be driving and on with you. So it sounds like you are doing the right thing. On SM I always cam on the defensive. Wow, I have heard of the commute/being in the car as being the "third place" between work and home, but I hadn't considered that as someone's only private time. Yikes! Yea, I definitely think it's the risk that's hot in regard to the work environment.
For the driving though, I think it's mostly *not* calculating the risk and just needing additional stimulation. Our smart phones trigger floods of neurotransmitters/brain chemicals so it's really only a step or two away from checking instagram at a stoplight.
