Just a question for those of you who may have some insight, but do cam girls that have done porn (and thus presumably developed some type of following in a medium outside of camming) do better for the most part than girls that don't have that type of web presence? Does it have zero effect? Does it actually hinder them?

If you're maybe thinking that members would become star struck when they see a porn star as a cam model, which leads to larger audiences and more tokens, i would answer that as "not necessarily." As far as my observations go, those who have a porn precedence aren't necessarily doing any better than those without. A few may have benefited from being an industry star, but the top models are still non-starlets.

p.s. Crumb that was a very intriguing article you posted

Based on this article I would say that women in pr0n have the same issue as cam models, only a small minority actually make any good money doing it.

From the porn stars I've seen come and go, the only advantage they have is name recognition and a fan base already established. From that point on, they either go down hill fast or flourish. Avy Scott actually started as a cam girl and her fans helped with her porn name before she ventured into the porn biz.

It all boils down to their on cam personality. From what I've seen, most porn stars don't last on MFC. Several reasons likely account for that ranging from the idiotic masses showing them zero respect while demanding to see their bobs on a regular basis to their other commitments interfering with the ability to establish a regular schedule.

Additionally, there is far less of a mystique to most porn stars. After you find out whatever personal questions you may have about them, their videos are already all over the interwebz. That alone makes it way more difficult to keep a decent sized regular fan base interested in paying for their time, attention and talents.

I am by no means a "porn star" but I have done porn for a particular company and there is a following on my stuff on their site.

That being said , I don't feel like it has ever helped with camming on any site. I was paid for the shoots at the time so the content belongs to the company . I have no rights to sell it . The most common thing I ran into was "What is your porn name?" . I realized that by giving this out I never benefited from it and the guys would direct themselves to the site , potentially giving the site money for the membership but how did I benefit?

My personal opinion is , why would they buy content that I have created when they can get it from a company with an actual camera guy , etc.
I have since removed all "porn" related tags and I don't mention it for the above reason , AND because my dabbling in porn is not a good reflection of how I cam or who I am on cam . To be honest if my porn persona appeals to guys I truly don't think they would like my cam style as I'm not the Boy/Boy/Girl getting pounded type on cam . Generally there are multiple pit bulls in outfits somewhere in the background and somehow we have a lot of discussions about food and hitachi karaoke nights. Apples to oranges .
We discussed this with the guys who have been coming in my room for a while and they all seemed to feel that there was a better feeling of "knowing me" and being able to relate to me without the porn persona.

I think if you are a porn star with a large following it could be beneficial if you could successfully redirect traffic , but my following was all on the site and I just recently started using twitter so trying to direct to twitter from that site didn't prove effective .
