I feel very lost and need some food for thought. If someone can recommend trustworthy educational and informative books about sex, relationships and fetishes, I would greatly appreciate it. Web resources are good, too, if they are expertly written.

I could tell you everything I know, THEN if you do the opposite, you should be good to go :?

You know what, Bob, those could be my words exactly
Unfortunately, that youtube channel is blocked in my country.

I'm interested now. Is this for you or another reader?

For you I would suggest a book called "The red queen" by Matt Ridley

Thanks! This is promising to be interesting. I recently got through something from the same menu http://www.amazon.com/Sex-Brain-Jo-Durden-Smith/dp/0446323160 (thanks public library), and it learned a lot of curious facts about men, women and history. My personal lesson taken out of that book was: we are doomed to make babies, divorce, keep suffering, and die before she does. Still scratching my head.

They are probably not your babies according to Ridley :)

Can you be a little more specific about what sort of information you are looking for?

What happens in my head when I want sex? What happens in hers, and what biological and psychological mechanisms are in play? How does sex in relationships usually evolve? How are we different from other animals with respect to sex? Why do people have fetishes? What kind of fetishes do people have? How are sexual desires perceived in societies outside Western culture? What have people invented to get more out of sex than intercourse followed by a climax? What makes domination games fun? What variations of BDSM lifestyle do people experience? How do I get into role play with my partner? What other games can we play? How do gay people feel love and attraction? Is asexuality real? How do people feel about sex as they age? What is porn all about? Is there porn for women? What have I always wanted to ask about sex but was afraid do ask? More questions?

I second The Red Queen; Matt Riddley is one of my favorite authors. He has a very concise way of explaining complicated concepts (Genome is easily one of my favorite books ever).

Dr Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation by Olivia Judson is simple, cute and informative. Apparently there was also a show; "Dr Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation explores the science of sex, considering everything from why females of so many species are so promiscuous to why sex exists at all. It is a blend of wit and rigor, a fusion of science and natural history, that will entertain, amaze, and inform."

If you can, you could also watch the TED talks on sex. Mary Roach: 10 things you didn't know about orgasm is pretty interesting.

Random List of Books:
A Billion Wicked Thoughts: What the World's Largest Experiment Reveals about Human Desire
Sex at Dawn: How We Mate, Why We Stray, and What It Means for Modern Relationships
The Anthropology of Sex
Gender and Anthropology
Love and Sex: Cross-Cultural Perspectives
The Sex Myth: Why Everything We're Told is Wrong
Why Is Sex Fun?: The Evolution Of Human Sexuality (Science Masters)
How Sex Works: Why We Look, Smell, Taste, Feel, and Act the Way We Do
Human sexuality in four perspectives
The Evolutionary Biology of Human Female Sexuality
Bisexuality: The psychology and politics of an invisible minority.
The evolution of human sexuality
Human Sexuality: How Do Men and Women Differ?
Psychological Functioning of Bondage/Domination/Sado-Masochism (BDSM) Practitioners

An important thing to note is the credentials of the authors. An Evolutionary Biologist and an Psychologist given the same data will read it differently. But then, bias is to be expected...sex is a sticky subject. Hehe.

Whoa, Alyson... :geek: I did not realize that you teach history of human sexuality at Columbia!

I've known quite a few completely asexual people. They've never been interested in sex and most likely never will be. Come to think of it, I don't even think they masturbated.
