This site takes stats from Alexa. Is Alexa reliable?

The results seem crazy but could be down to a couple of bizarre months. It may be interesting to see how it develops.

http://webcamstartup.com/camming-sites-traffic/

EDIT: Thinking about it, this whole site isn't great (and I knew that) so not sure why I even looked at this collation of stats.

there is multiple sites that can tell you how many views a site gets, in this case i usede. similarweb.com

okay so i will just be taking the top 4 sites that there where metioned.

first site that where mentioned where bongacams.com, they get a Huge amounght of there views from russia(which is really fucking weird because most of the people that view cams are from american, germany, England, and such. so my guess are bot's or stuff like that to boost there ranks) although the site is mostely cam models from easteren Europe so dunno.
so already the claim that its the most traficed site is bullshit, which you can also see by going to the link there will be under this. global rank: #256

LiveJasmin.com i dont know that much about this site other then it gets a Lot of its views by random pop up adds, from porn sites, dont ask how i know hahaha xD
further more people spend under 3 minuts on the site, so i would figure that people spend even less money on it. also there views are going lower and lower which is a really bad sign for the site. global rank: #235

Chaturbate, my favorite. the site gets 121M visiters, this might not sound like a lot compared to livejasmine, but most of the people on Chaturbate clickede to get there, and where not redirectede by a popup add. further more people send on average 17Min on the site, which means that people like the site. there views are only going up right now, and i think it will be the biggest site in a year, also view wise. global rank: #115

Myfreecams.com also have a strong following, and lots of people spending time on the site, the average is about 13.43min which is much more then the first two, it also gets most of its views by people going on to the site and not by annoying popup adds, But there views are going down, and have been doing that for about a year as far as i could tell. global ranking: #369

in conclusion, Bongacams.com are Not the most traficied site of them all. livejasmin.com is. but if we take it from a contest stantpoint, and How long people are on the site, + how much people spend on there, then Chaturbate would be on the top with out any questions askede.

the statement made in the link you posted are really fuckede up and not acurate at all... it first of all failede to even do its own stastics correct, but further more have wrong facts and statics... it seems more to me like bongacams.com have given up a sum of money for webcamstartup.com to bring this story.

It may be worthwhile looking at more info on Alexa about the sites for the information that is there, rather than looking overly simplistically at the visitor numbers and saying which is most popular.

There's more data than folks are considering, a wealth of it infact, which gives insight into various areas of the world.
For a start - look at "upstream" for bongacams, and then for Myfreecams and Chaturbate.

Bongacams has (as it's top 3 priors) redirections/pop-unders and a viruses that open windows continually. Google those names and you'll be able to read a little more. Those there are apparently catering to 20% of it's traffic. Then there's the most popular clicks - there's Facebook's "find your account" page, Google mail, Amazon homepage and... yahoo finance?!?! This looks weird.

Russia is known for high levels of software piracy (as is India), which may correspondingly mean low security and high levels of compromised computers. Furthermore, the bounce rate is the %age who visit who don't click on any further links (i.e. just leave). Now I've not visited bongacams to know - and who knows whether visiting a room on MFC actually gets registered as venturing further into the site, but coupled with the top 3 priors being popunders/redirects etc makes some sense.

However, the most popular search words that bongacams is found upon are "porn chat" and variations thereof (in Russian) - and that accounts for perhaps 5% of traffic. So perhaps it's not all nasty tactics to drive viewership, but draw your own conclusions.

Onto MyFreeCams and Chaturbate...
Search visits are similar to Bongacams, with a bounce rate that's 50-75% less. Search terms are specific for myfreecams - and the same for Chaturbate (people are actively looking for those sites in particular). Those two have much higher US visitor rates, and similar everyone else rates to bonga cams (5-7% Germany etc). Both of these sites have upstream sites of Google, Facebook, Youtube and each other. There's a massive difference in the number of sites linking (1/100th of Bongacams in MFC, 1/10th of Bongacams for Chaturbate), which includes reddit and vid sharing sites - which you'd expect. Sure as hell looks a lot less ... weird ... than Facebook findaccount page, google mail and so on.

So the person who wrote those articles seems to see a big number and think "Oh that's it". Just look at the data available on those pages, do a bit of Googling and... voila. It's not all it seems.
