Yeah, as Gen said, SEVERAL celebrities (some of whom I didn't even realize were 18 yet :? ) had their iClouds compromised and photos leaked. It's possible that the person leaking the photos is doing so for profit as well since there has been evidence of someone offering to leak more in exchange for Bitcoin payments.

But I'm not going to pretend like I won't stare at these photos for like 20 seconds or even enjoy seeing them or attempt to feel guilty because I shouldn't be happy about seeing them because of how they were released to the public.

I'll be honest, I went and looked (someone posted a link on imgur and that's how I found out about it). But I didn't need to "attempt" to feel guilty, the guilt was an auto-reflex because of how clearly they were pictures sent to a bf or or partner/whatever. There was no context on the imgur post I saw so I didn't realize how they'd been leaked, I figured before I clicked on the link that it was like the Farrah Abrahm/James Deen "sex tape" leak (ya know, fake and pro) not someone hacking into their iCloud and posting private content.

I realize that we all post our nudes and stuff but this is a nauseating violation of privacy. I feel ill.

ETA: The number of comments I read on imgur about "Don't want people to see your nudes, don't take nudes!" is horrible.

DuoShi said:
I just can't put my head into a situation like that knowing that people I actually care about wouldn't take pics like that anyways.

ETA Again: Everybody takes nudes, I hate to burst your bubble. Before smart phones people were doing it with polaroid cameras. I bet most people's moms were in a nude polaroid at some point. The only difference is they're easier to distribute now.

Everybody being you and the few people you know? Certainly there are a lot of exhibitionists in tumblr who post pictures of their boobs every 5 minutes, but they are a minority of the population. My group of friends have no interest in posting pictures anywhere but facebook and would never put anything important in cloud storage.

Duo, I like the way you think sir. Everything you are saying is how I'm feeling.

I also can't feel guilt or emotionally responsible for anything/ everything that happens to someone in the world, that I'm not connected to or interact with on a daily basis. It just doesn't happen. And I think that is what Duo meant. Not that people don't take nudes (because hello camgirl forum) but the fact that he doesn't actually know these celebs on a personal level, which then doesn't give him much room to actually feel bad or too sympathetic about the situation.

Duo if I'm wrong on that, then please clarify, because maybe I'm just projecting my own thoughts onto you.

On the subject of violating her privacy of course I think that's fucked up. But really..what is me being upset going to do about it? It's unnecessary for ME to stew over this happening. The only thing this situation teaches us is that : 1) Realize there are very shitty people in this world that get their kicks by bringing you down. 2) Keep your things as secure as possible. 3) Maybe even delete a nude after sending it out. 4) As a person that is "mysterious/desirable" keep your shit extra locked and secure. 5) Know how to send out cease and desist notices. 6) Understand that shit happens and learn from it.

There is a very stark difference between taking & posting nudes. Jennifer Lawrence also didn't post her boobs on tumblr every five minutes. Many, many people (likely including some of your friends) take naked photos for themselves or their partners.

I didn't say post nudes, I said take nudes. People in intimate relationships (or not) have been taking nudes of each other and recording sex tapes ever since it was possible. Do you really think people only were using camcorders and polaroid cameras to take pictures of their kids opening Christmas presents? I realize past generations like to pretend that the current one is always full of loose morals and their own generation is the paragon of virtue but come on.

And yes, Boce, just because it's commonplace, hacking is still a pretty gross invasion of privacy.

Other than a misunderstanding of who I'm referring to, when I say "people I actually care about", I don't see where the generalization would come from. I'll say it this way then. The people closer to me than anyone else in the world would never take nudes of themselves. That's just not what they do. Those are the people I think of, when someone comes at me with "What if" points of view.

I feel bad for her.

But she's so hot.

I can't even pretend I haven't wanted to see her naked. A lot of that has to do with her personality. But I also love her boobies. I'm curious to see if this will prompt her to take roles or photo shoots she wouldn't have previously taken since well it's all out there already.

Your generation better grow the fuck up in a hurry is all I gotta say.

:twocents-02cents:

This came up in my room today- and I have a habit of reading Perez Hilton sometimes, not gonna hide it. So I saw the photos before cam tonight and my reaction was "No Way!". I was surprised to see them, but I can't say I felt guilty for looking. I do agree that her privacy as well as others (did not really know it was more celebrities at first--- and have not looked at those) was totally violated. I see as getting your house broken into. But... once it is done, it's done. There is no taking that back. Those photos are out in the world for good now. Obviously I do think the hacker should be prosecuted-- if they know who he or she is.

I have always thought she was lovely. A great actress, funny, charming, and beautiful looking as well. She always stuck me as the type to take photos like these so I'm not really shocked. To be honest a lot of women and men take these types of photos, so that in itself to me isn't a big deal--- it is just because who she is and how they got out there. Butttt... she probably should not have stored them on her icloud, foolish imo. But when you are young you do stupid things. It happens.

I think she will handle it with total grace and in the end come out on top (like she isn't already!). Now having a nude scene in a movie might not be as jarring for her or her fans, if it ever would have been. So there is a silver-lining.

I do also agree that our privacy is being invaded a lot more than this... we have bigger fish to fry in that regard. However, I do hope for Jennifer and the other celebrities effected that they get justice served in court and quality damage control through PR.

Not really. Cloud storage is being marketed heavily as a secure alternative to local storage and depending on the provider you choose, it indeed is, as long as the user follows good security procedures. Compared to local storage, data on some cloud providers (or at least in the ones I know people working at), user data is always encrypted and is only decrypted when the user opens the file. On top of that, these companies have 24x7x365 security monitoring and access logging, so whoever this thief was, there are plenty of evidence to help track him/her/them.

Now, we need to wait and see what will come up; it can be a security flaw (that Apple will never admit), social engineering, failures in password reset systems and/or password reuse (the two most common sources of account hijacks these days)

I'm not saying your wrong, your family could be devoutly religious and go so far as to shower with their clothes on and have been this way their whole lives, never a lustful bone in their bodies.

But what I said, pretty much still stands for most people.

43% of people admit to having sent a nude photo via text. That doesn't account for liars, people who took them but never sent them, people who took a dick it titty pick and immediately deleted them, people like many of our parents who were snapping naughty Polaroids and giggling while having a roll in the hay back in the 80s, and students that have posed nude for photography sessions. I bet it'd be hard to find 30 who's naked body had never seen a camera for even one quickly deleted pic, before running into 50 more who had.

Hell when I was younger (before I was a camgirl, when I was a mega prude churchgoer who planned on abstaining after marriage) I even used my digital camera to snap a pic to see what the hell my cooch actually looked like. And I bet my brother thinks that I would never ever ever be in a nude photo.

Personal details, files and images being leaked is a dreadful thing, but I wish everyone would get over the 'omg but it's Jennifer Lawrence' first off, who cares. she's got skin over het nose just like all of us. second, if we all STOP giving the issue so much attention it wouldn't have escalated and she would have just been able to brush it off and move on.

Reminded me of that unflattering Beyonce photo, only when her agent requested it to be taken down everyone started sharing it.

this happens to A LOT of people, I understand since she's a celeb it's a bigger thing (as opposed to all those websites that encourage people to put personal nudes up of their exes?), it sucks in any case.

Maybe I'm just not in love with her, but I fail to see how this is 'omg worst thing ever'. for all we know leaked images could be a marketing strategy.

If you're passionate about (online) privacy check out this site and see how you can help https://www.eff.org/

I don't think any of us are extra upset over it being JL or whoever it could have been. Many people seem to think it's less of a deal because celebs aren't real people or people they know so why feel bad? I'm sure that same mindset is what makes it so easy to fap to revenge porn sites.

And giving the issue attention because people were concerned with the hacking wasn't what caused it to escalate. It escalated because "omg celeb porn!", it was posted on [site name banned*3], 4chan, reddit and imgur. I know it made the front page on imgur and reddit. That wasn't because people were concerned, it was because people were excited. I'm sure half the country new before any of the leaked celebs did.

Many of us are bothered by the victim blaming "shouldn't have take nudes!" "Shouldn't have used the cloud!" Seriously? All the sites camgirls use to host videos (Dropbox, Mediafire, etc) are considered the cloud. Where else do people store backups?

I get that already though. I'm trying to clear up the fact that people are quoting and responding to me with generalizations, while I'm talking about specifics that apply to me and my people. I tend to not have any interest in what the majority do or don't do. Ya feel me?

There's actually a really refreshing thread about this on reddit right now.
http://www.reddit.com/r/TrollXChromosomes/comments/2f40xb/scumbag_reddit_jlaw_scandal_edition/

It kind of makes me sad that people don't feel bad about it. Is it just because she's a celebrity? What if it was your sister, cousin, or best friend who had her PRIVATE PERSONAL nude pictures leaked to the ENTIRE INTERNET against her will by some turd who was making money off of them. I bet a lot of people would feel differently about it then.
I feel like some people are subconsciously more bitter towards celebrities than they are towards 'normal people', because they feel like celebrities are so lucky and lead such seemingly amazing lives altogether, it won't hurt them as much.
As in, 'she makes millions per year, so it's not that bad'.
I can kind of understand where they're coming from when some multi-millionaire socialite/actress has her $1000 handbag stolen. It doesn't hurt her as much as it would hurt someone who's saved for years to buy it. But you obviously can't apply that logic to getting your nudes leaked. That's bound to be a cripplingly embarrassing situation for ANYONE who's not a sex worker, no matter if they're rich and famous or not, along with the added knowledge that no one will ever forget this.
When things like this happen to a normal college girl, you can bet that in a couple of years, no one in her close environment will talk about it anymore. People will just let it go eventually, the photos might even get lost. Whereas for someone like Jennifer Lawrence (or Ariana Grande, or Victoria Justice, or Mary Elizabeth Winstead, ...) people will likely still occasionally be bringing these pictures up 10 years from now, on IMDB or celeb gossip sites and such, in case these women are still somewhat relevant then. And I'm predicting a great career for Jennifer. So she won't ever get rid of this topic completely. People won't stop talking about her nudes, and sharing them, until her career is over.

So when someone on reddit goes "lol yeah I bet she's crying herself to sleep, rolling around in her millions" I can't see the logic anywhere in there. How does her money make what happened any more acceptable or any easier for here -.-
But yeah, I think that's the reason people think it's OK. :/

The reddit thread Noelle linked to has some great comments by the way.

Sorry, but using cloud service when you are a celebrity IS foolish, I don't care if a company tells you it is secure. If it is floating around on the internet cloud it is basically transporting your house anywhere in the world. Someone can break in potentially. A lot of people want to get juicy details in exchange for money, so the rest of the masses like us can read about it. You better believe someone with enough technical know how is going to at least try.

Where should she store backups? On an external hard drive- several if she doesn't want her nudes to ever disappear.

Stating the same for the average joe like you and I, the cloud is probably reasonably safe- but if you are worried... use external hard drives- and not just one. There are downsides for cam girls, obviously--- like having to upload that stuff every damn time. But reasonably we shouldn't be too worried about the cloud- so it seems reasonable for us to keep on using it. Besides any sensitive data should not be stored next to our nude videos, right?

*** Sorry about all the typos in my last post- I was tired :(***

Interesting post detailing exactly how the photo leak (probably) happened: http://imgur.com/gallery/OQQ2T

Personally, I don't think nudes being leaked of anyone, celebrity or otherwise, is a big deal in this day and age. It literally happens every minute. There's no shock or entertainment value in seeing another naked celebrity. But maybe that's just because I get naked for a living and so don't feel prudish about such things.

I sort of agree and sort of disagree with this. I think I just have a different long term perspective because I'm older and have already seen this sort of thing happen a few times.

This closely parallels what happened to Vanessa Williams. For those who don't remember, she was won Miss America in 1983; I remember watching her get crowned that night. She had posed for some nudes the year before under the promise that her face would be obscured. The photographer lied and then sold them to Penthouse without permission to do so. She gave up the title because of the scandal.

It's been over 30 years since that happened and she's gone on to be nominated for 11 grammy's, won several awards, she's been on broadway, done television and movies.

Honestly by the time she did Kiss of the Spider Woman most people were already over it. And by the time she did Eraser with Arnold Schwarzenegger most people had already forgotten about it and were surprised to hear it was her in the movie.

Nowadays her nudes are just some grainy old shots most people wouldn't even consider it worth the bother to google.

So I agree that 'some' people will remember the photo's years from now, but it won't be that debilitating. I'm guessing most people under 30 reading this probably never even realized the lady from Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives was in such a scandal before.

Now, ironically, you mention 'college girl.' There it could have a bigger influence depending on the situation. Let's just say the Libby Hoeller videos had WAY more impact on me than Williams nudes did or the Jennifer Lawrence nudes ever will. To this day when I hear the Divinyls - I Touch Myself, I picture one of the Hoeller videos. ;)

I'll admit my opinion about this current scandal is a bit jaded by not caring. When this thread started I had to google her name to see who she was. Once I realized 'Hunger Games' I pretty much lost interest. I still haven't bothered to look up the photo's in question, kind of doubt I ever will.
