There is a much more sinister reason behind wanting to get every student an ipad here, and that reason is for another "track, trace, and database" system. Not only is everything the kid has ever done in high school going to be in this system, but it's also going to be used as a tool to spy on the students and even scan their finger prints (it is a touch pad remember). They may not implement this right away of course, but mark my words... it's coming!!!

You mean like that? Every year, we get closer to 1984.

The Obama administration deems doing a headstand without a helmet and cannonball dives too dangerous... the controlling nanny wussification of the USA strives on... How did the world survive without progressive socialist democrat’s insane drive to regulate every human activity? Where did common sense go?

USPS to destroy “Just Move” stamps over safety concerns

Linn’s Stamp News reports that the US Postal Service will destroy the entire press run of a stamp series aimed at getting children to be more active. According to Linn’s reporter Bill McAllister, three of the stamps in the fifteen stamp series raised safety concerns among sports figures on the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition. The stamps in question depicted children performing a cannonball dive, skateboarding without kneepads, and doing a headstand without a helmet. The unsafe depictions came to light after USPS Marketing chief Nagisa Manabe asked Michelle Obama to take part in a first day ceremony for the stamps. That was apparently the first time the stamps had been reviewed by the Sports Council.

The other "too dangerous" stamps...

OMG I am hooked on this girl's videos now. Can't believe I've never seen her before. Thanks for posting that.

On another note. It seems wikileaks has documents about the NSA spying on us through our iphones...

Your iPhone could be spying on you, according to the latest trove of documents from Wikileaks, which looks like it could be the biggest scandal yet.

Called the Spyfiles, it’s a trove of documents about the “mass interception industry” — the massive post-9/11 surveillance community that electronically snoops on entire populations.

The industry is selling software to government agencies — some of it delivered by Trojans — that can take over your iPhone. It can track its every use, follow your movements (even in standby), recognize your voice, record conversations, and even capture video and audio from the room it is in.

It’s not just limited to iPhones, of course. There are various spyware packages that run on PCs, Android and Blackberry. The uses are mind-boggling. The CIA, for example, is using phone-tracking software to target drone strikes in the Middle East and Central Asia. It recognizes the subject by their voice print, but the actual targeting isn’t terribly accurate.

One of the most sophisticated spying packages — The FinFisher program, produced by the British company, Gamma International — is delivered via a phony iTunes update. The Wall Street Journal has more details on the FinFisher spyware, which is sold to police and government agencies. (Der Speigel has a fascinating article about how it is marketed).

Apple just patched the vulnerability in iTunes update 10.5.1. (The vulnerability appears to be Windows only, but it’s not clear. It’s claimed Apple knew about the problem for three years).

FinFisher says the spyware is legal and the company doesn’t know of abuses. But there’s evidence spyware was used to monitor political activists in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya during the Arab Spring, according to a big story about the latest Wikileaks leak in The Washington Post:

“We are seeing a growing number of repressive regimes get hold of the latest, greatest Western technologies and use them to spy on their own citizens for the purpose of quashing peaceful political dissent or even information that would allow citizens to know what is happening in their communities,” Michael Posner, assistant secretary of state for human rights, said in a speech last month in California. “We are monitoring this issue very closely.”

The Post mostly covers the sale of this technology by U.S. companies to repressive regimes, which are using it to spy on citizens and squish political dissent. But Wikileaks claims mass surveillance systems could be widely deployed in western countries:

Surveillance companies like SS8 in the U.S., Hacking Team in Italy and Vupen in France manufacture viruses (Trojans) that hijack individual computers and phones (including iPhones, Blackberries and Androids), take over the device, record its every use, movement, and even the sights and sounds of the room it is in. Other companies like Phoenexia in the Czech Republic collaborate with the military to create speech analysis tools. They identify individuals by gender, age and stress levels and track them based on ‘voiceprints’. Blue Coat in the U.S. and Ipoque in Germany sell tools to governments in countries like China and Iran to prevent dissidents from organizing online.

And you thought Carrier IQ was bad?

Wikileaks has promised to release hundreds of documents about 160 intelligence contractors in the mass surveillance industry through the rest of this month and next year. It released 278 documents on Thursday. Wikileaks is working with several privacy and media organizations.

Yeah, she's awesome :) . Also look up LearnLiberty if you don't know them already. They mostly have the economics angle of politics, but it applies to just about everything.

13 minutes everybody should watch about Congressional members & Senators using campaign funds for personal use, a loophole THEY passed for themselves. These slimeballs should all be fired and term limits set up for future elected officials. These career politicians only care about themselves & getting re-elected to continue their posh lifestyle.

The $200 is what the taxes on an average booth would be. They just have to do the paper work the same as everybody else that has a business, sometimes things get lost in the mail or forms are filled out incorrectly. The picture made it look like they were being employed to sell the hats for an adult, and that box of hats is probably what got them noticed.

I thought this other WTF goes hand in hand with Congress's greed and who they really work for. http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomgroe...cessfully-to-limit-dodd-frank-on-derivatives/

According to the New York Times, lobbyists from Citigroup played a major role in the bill’s creation: “Citigroup’s recommendations were reflected in more than 70 lines of the House committee’s 85-line bill,” Eric Lipton and Ben Protess write. “Two crucial paragraphs, prepared by Citigroup in conjunction with other Wall Street banks, were copied nearly word for word. (Lawmakers changed two words to make them plural.)”

See how your representative voted here.

That may be a good place to avoid going to, unless you like enemas, fingering, and such. Another case discovered.

Methinks everyone involved in the rapings should lose their jobs, at a minimum, and the victims will soon become multi-millionaires. Hard to believe that can happen once, let alone become standard operating procedures in America.

Interesting article. My sister in law is a principal here in Missouri. They already did the same thing last year across her entire district. High school students already have them and the plan is over the next few years to get every student an iPad all the way down to 4th grade.

What the article didn't explain very well is overall this is expected to SAVE the district money. My sister is somewhat of a bargain hunter so she negotiated with a dealer when they ordered the first pallet of tablets. But she did get the same 3 year warranty and she also got protective covers for each.

So far it's been a great program. Books, quizzes, homework assignments, everything can be done digitally now. The teacher in each room has access to all their students iPads. She can send out homework to all of them at the same time. Give timed quizzes right in class.
Grading is automatic in a lot of non-subjective cases. And the students have cloud storage of everything they do now for every class for every year they are in school. All the same cloud. So when they graduate they can zip up their directory and have a complete portfolio of everything they have done in school.

So far the school is really liking it. I honestly don't see them ever going back to paper books and supplies anymore.

I've been visiting with my sister this past weekend and we got to talking about this subject again so I thought I'd post an update.

After bringing in the first batch of iPads for the older students the schools in her district have decided to alter their plans a bit. Next year those will be rotated down to the younger students and they will start ordering in MacBook Air's for each student. Starting in first grade students will having typing classes so they're ready to use their computers starting in the next couple grades.

The reason they can afford to give every student a new computer is because it's incredibly cheaper. She was telling me they got a quote from a textbook publisher for school books. For enough books for 60 students in one subject the publisher charges the schools $45,000. They teach four subjects that need textbooks for each grade, so $180,000 per.

With the computers, they are now using textbooks in digital editions that other teachers around the nation have written themselves and posted to teaching resource sites for schools to use free.

I thought textbooks were expensive for college students in this country. Turns out they have been gouging public schools way worse. At over $700 for a single book it's no wonder county taxes are so high to pay for schools.

Another Vice Presidential gem from Joe Biden about running for POTUS in 2016...

"There may be reasons I don't run, but there's no obvious reason for me why I think I should not run," he said on CNN's "New Day."

No doubt about it, he has POTUS potential. :shifty:

Next time I see a person of Asian decent, I'm gonna point my finger at them and yell "It's all your fault!"

http://www.startribune.com/politics/national/252700111.html

From the Red Star:

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The troublesome fish currently known as Asian carp may get a new name in Minnesota over concern that the current one casts people from Asian cultures in a negative light.

Proposals advancing in the Legislature would require the Department of Natural Resources to refer to the fish as "invasive carp," a reference to the threat the non-native fish pose to Mississippi River-area ecosystems.

Sen. John Hoffman, the Champlin Democrat sponsoring a bill in the Senate, said some people of Asian descent have complained about the name.

"Caucasians brought them to America," Hoffman, the bill's primary Senate sponsor, said Thursday. "Should we call them 'Caucasian carp?' They have names. Let's call them what they are."

Asian carp actually describes two closely related fish, the bighead carp and silver carp, that are native to a region of Asia spanning China, part of Siberia and North Korea, said Cindy Kolar, a fish biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, Va. Since their introduction to the United States about 30 years ago, they have become a threat to native fish including those in the Great Lakes, Minnesota and elsewhere.

Jean Lee, who testified for the Senate bill Thursday, said she became upset by the term as it was used during a round-table meeting she attended with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials.

"They were referring to the Asian people in terms of being invasive species. This was offensive," said Lee, executive director of the Children's Hope International Minnesota chapter. That St. Louis-based nonprofit organization facilitates international adoptions from countries including China and Vietnam.

Sia Her, executive director of the Council on Asian-Pacific Minnesotans, a state agency, also testified in support of calling the fish "invasive carp." The negative response to the fish "will reflect negatively on our community," she said.

The key aspect of the fish is that it is invasive, she said.

DNR spokeswoman Julie Forster said the agency was unaware of any complaints that "Asian carp" was offensive. But she said the agency would follow any direction the Legislature gives.

The Senate bill was approved and now awaits a floor vote. A similar House bill hasn't yet had a committee hearing.

A similar bill was introduced in the Iowa Legislature last year but didn't make it out of committee.

How about calling them big head or silver carp, ya know... their actual names?

How many animals are known as American-something or another... Eagles, American bison, etc., should I be insulted?

How about African elephants in zoos? Maybe some Africans are offended too, can't have that now can we.

What's next... Japanese beetles, German brown trout, Irish wolfhounds, German shepherds??

Jean Lee, who testified for the Senate bill Thursday, said she became upset by the term as it was used during a round-table meeting she attended with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials.

"They were referring to the Asian people in terms of being invasive species.

In the style of SNL... Jean, you ignorant slut, no they weren't!

Virginia Democrat James P. Moran said “I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid.”

He plans to highlight the injustice by introducing an amendment to the Legislative Branch bill during its full committee markup, and at floor consideration of the bill. Moran made the comments while the bill that funds members’ $174,000 salaries was being marked up in the Legislative Branch subcommittee.
