I can not figure out why. The HTML coding is good. There are just tons of broken picture links showing up for me. :crybaby:

Does anyone else have this problem?
Imgur stopped allowing hotlinking to mfc.

Imgur stopped allowing hotlinking to mfc.

It has ALWAYS been against Imgur's Terms of Service.

Imgur gaves me errors 3 years ago when trying to put pictures on my profile, so I'm not sure why it worked for other people.

It may have always been in their ToS but they were always known for bring very lax about it. (Sort of like MFC haha.) That's why I always recommend it for ACF but we'll have to see how things go. Something must have changed recently about how they deal with their ToS.

Yes, for whatever reason imgur has stopped allowing hotlinking from MFC. It's odd that the timing coincides with the release of their iPhone app, but maybe they are trying to make sure the app doesn't become just people uploading a steady stream of porn. You'll need to find another site to host your pics on or upload to MFC directly and use that (they don't allow PNG format though)....

I and someone else I know do profile work for a few models, and after we realized imgur has had some issues, she followed up with MFC support, and they indicated:

"The host that they are using for their images is no longer allowing hot linking to our site. They will need to be hosted elsewhere."

I am actually going to be publicly releasing my image uploading host shortly, so if anyone would like to upload anything now, please let me know, and I can get you setup.

Yea I need a new place to link my images. Thank you.

Why not just use MFC themselves for the host? You can upload pictures to MFC and keep them unassigned but get their direct url and use that. I've never understood why more people don't go this route.

There are different problems with that, like MFC turning PNG files into JPGs automatically.
This means that transparent PNG images turn non-transparent and become useless.

It also means that JPG artifacts will show up in the images, making them look plain shitty to the experienced eye, due to the added noise.

After the imgur fiasko I tried hosting all my images that were hosted on imgur before, to MFC, and I could stand the noise in the graphics for about a day before I had to pick a different host.

Example: an excerpt of one my own graphics, as it appeared when it was hosted on MFC (i.e. turned into a JPG without my consent...) vs. in its original PNG form - very much zoomed in to display the JPG artifacts in the former:

tldr,
MFC turns your images into JPGs if you host them there, and as a consequence they'll look crappy.
On a profile, you can't tell at first glance (as I said, I zoomed in very far on my example), but the feeling you get from a clean looking profile with graphics that aren't distorted by noise is different.

This. They took down my profile images over two years ago so I bought myself a domain and hosting. If we are acquainted in some way I am offering to make subdomains/ftp accounts and host profile images for ladies who can't find alternative hosting..

Time to put on your glasses, old man! :p
Haha seriously, it's obvious. If you can't see it in the text, check out the symbols (suitcase etc.). The noise is real and it is not pretty.

Oopsie, I tried to quote but accidentally hit thank.

You may not see the difference in Lily's (I do) but let me show you what MFC does to PNGs.

Note: this has note been edited in any way, this a screenshot of the image from my gallery on MFC. I did not black out any text, MFC did all the distortions.

I no longer have the original image but I'm sure you can understand...it did NOT look like that.

After Lasik my vision is actually 20/20. I am not disputing that there are differences, but until I zoomed the browser to 170% I couldn't see them. Men and woman vision is different especially when it comes to subtle color differences and such, so my artist sister sees tons of things that I just don't see. On the other hand the text distortion of LilyEvan's stuff was very obvious, so I hope you all find a good hosting solution.

:snooty: It's pretty noticeable to this old he-fart. I can spot the artifacts right away. Even if you don't, the jpg image is definitely "muddier" than the png.

It's quite dependent on distance from monitor and resolution being used.
With that said, a way to to make it easier to see the problem - open each picture on a tab on your browser, then use your keyboard to switch quickly between tabs. On the image hosted on MFC, you should then be able to see the artefacts - on the red circles, it will show up as if the circles were 'dirty'. Around the names it's a bit harder depending on the distance from the screen - if I am sitting at an arm's length, it is almost imperceptible, but if I halve the distance, it becomes more visible.

I guess that explains it then haha. I never knew they forcibly converted your pngs to jpegs. That would definitely drop the quality of the pics big time. Thanks for that heads up Lily. Definitely good information to have.

Took a few days, but seems they took care of the image upload/hosting issues.

So no more png being converted to jpg, and hey, animated gifs! No need for imgur/etc now.

OOOO GIFS!!!!!

I've been hosting via MFC for years now, but my profile is designed around working within the limitations, so this is pretty fun!

I learned this the hard way. Instead I use a private, password-protected tumblr to upload all my images to and hotlink them from there. You can't directly link to MFC on tumblr without using bit.ly but you can hotlink their images on MFC with no problems.
