Not flowers, not a tip, not even a kind word.

Going off on a tangent, as a kid growing up in England, the method of taking body temperature that everyone seemed to use was a (mercury) thermometer placed either under the tongue, or under an armpit.
A friend was on a school exchange in France and spending a couple of weeks living with a French family, when she got sick with a fever.
