Just wondering if there are any id Software fans hanging around. If you are, what is your favorite game?
They are responsible for such games as Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein, etc. As well as their mega-gaming event, Quakecon. My most memorable id software game would have to be Return To Castle Wolfenstein.

Raising hand.

Loved Return To Castle Wolfenstein too. But I probably played Commander Keen way more. Still play it once in a while.

Every once in I still catch myself saying 'Gestapo!' from the Wolfenstein 3D version. :)

Do you remember the Banimod Goldrush from RTCW? I remember my fiancee owning/running a server from the ECGN(East Coast Gaming Network) and having that mod installed for it. Also I highly enjoyed the TSN(Team Sportscast Network) and their game coverage team. Enemy Territory was pretty good, but not AS nostalgic as RTCW is. Sadly noone plays it any longer.

Commander Keen was my shit when I was 7 years old. A DOS based computer was the only video game "system" I had for quite a while--and for me nothing could compare to the crazy intergalactic adventures of a kid in a yellow football helmet who was roughly the same age as me at the time.

The Commander Keen series brought together a unique blend of excellent storytelling, cutting edge visuals, and killer platforming action--these games are some of my all time favorites. Not sure why this character/story/world hasn't popped up again--I think it would definitely stand the test of time with just a little updating...

Given all the retread crap that is constantly being "remade, reworked, and rereleased," I think old Commander Keen deserves a shot!

I still play Keen on a dosbox install on my pc. And now if you look for it you'll find it's been released as an android app. You can play it on tablets. The controls take a bit to get use to. But it's all there.

Nice, Jerry--thanks for the info. I played through it again on DOSBox a few years ago, but I'm definitely due for another run. Unfortunately I don't have any Android devices... Y U Do Me Like Dis Apple???

Maybe someday...

Just checked on a couple blogs and they are saying it's also available for iPhone. Might give it a quick search.

Quake and Duke were some of the earliest games I ever played. Basically anything related to 3D realms warms my heart.
Enemy Territory was the first MMOfps...its started a loooong downward cycle into 6+ hr lan parties and weight gain.
*wistful sigh*

Yeah, I've been reading about it--there are definitely different versions and ports of it that have made it to the iPhone, but it looks like I would need to jailbreak the device etc. (at least at this point since a lot of these versions are like 3-4 years old). Oh well, I'm more than happy to just play with my regular ol' keyboard. Thanks for checking though!

Jessi, I really miss some good old Duke Nuke'm action. Did you--or anyone else--ever play the original side scrolling Duke Nuke'm games? I think they were made by Apogee--and they were a ton of fun--really want to see if I can grab them on DOSbox as well...

And thanks SeductiveGeek for making this thread--a lot of this stuff had kind of slipped my mind! lol

:hello2: Guilty. Loved pretty much all the old 2D games. Apogee stuff, pretty much had all of it. Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jackrabbit, Cosmo, Monster Bash, S.A.M. (Secret Agent Man)..... the list goes on. I still prefer some of those over a lot of the modern games.

I opened up an arcade right after I got out of high school. Working all day during slow times, yeah, I'd play. Got to where I could complete the entire games of Shinobi, Double Dragon and 1942 on a single quarter each. Ah, good times. Never liked PacMan though. Call me weird.

I just found out Wolfenstein 3d is on steam. I need to check for Commander Keen. I fucking love me some Commander Keen.

I have Commander Keen on steam, I think I picked it up during one of the sales a few years back. I love replaying these games from my childhood!

How can you not be a fan of idSoftware? So many great games. I don't want to know how many hours I spent playing doom & quake back in the day lol.

I remember playing a browser based version of wolfenstein a while back. That brought back good memories.

As a child Wolfenstein was one of the first games I remember playing.

As kids, me and my brother bought a big Wolfenstein 3D/Spear of Destiny package from I'd that included a T-shirt. I think we fought more over who got the shirt than who could use the computer to play the games.

Me too! But are we talking the Apple II/C64 version? :)
