Hmm. Not that I'll ever go there but good to know. Cheese is good, of course. But it has limits IMO.I think it's more to do with the Colombian obsession with adding cheese to everything, including fruit salads and ice cream.
Sure, if you put two together with a meat, cheese or vegie layer between themhow about quesadillas? are they sandwiches?
Ah, that's a ChickenSchnitzelBurger. Cluckin' awesomeIn Australia they call chicken sandwiches burgers and that's just wrong. Burger is short for hamburger which is ground cow.![]()
I agree that a burger should be a ground beef patty on a bun.
But I guess I'd say if I order a chicken burger I'd expect it to be a ground chicken patty on a bun, sorta like this:

whereas if I order a chicken sandwich, I'd expect a chunk of chicken (likely crunchy fried) like this:

They are both chicken sandwiches, tho.
If you order a vegetarian patty on a burger, is it unable to be called a burger? Also this reminds me I miss the original Gardenburger patties. I've never found anything as good.
@Maxi -- so the difference is the bread? Not the protein?
I have absolutely put ground beef in between sandwich bread because I really don't like burger buns.Bread is definitely a factor in sandwich classification. Squared bread is a must.
You can’t put ground beef in a sandwich, for example. BUT, you could put fried chicken as the protein base, providing that it’s in a squared bread base.
If it’s in a round brioche bun with lettuce and tomato, it’s a chicken burger.
It sounds like anything on a bun is a burger. Is a hot dog a burger?Bread is definitely a factor in sandwich classification. Squared bread is a must.

It's almost like a Chicago dog.And to describe the Danish hotdog to the uninitiated:
A proper Danish hotdog, often ordered as a "ristet hotdog med det hele" (a grilled hotdog with everything), is a feast for the senses. Prepare for a delightful mess of:
- Ketchup and Mustard: The familiar and essential duo.
- Remoulade: A creamy, tangy, pale yellow mayonnaise-based sauce, often with finely chopped pickles and a hint of curry. This is a non-negotiable ingredient
- Raw Onions: Finely chopped for a sharp, fresh bite.
- Crispy Fried Onions: Providing a satisfying crunch and a sweet, savory flavor.
- Pickled Cucumber Salad (Agurkesalat): Thinly sliced, sweet and tangy pickled cucumbers that cut through the richness of the other toppings.
The Danish hotdog is most commonly found at a pølsevogn, or "sausage wagon." These humble hotdog stands are a cherished institution in Denmark, a democratic and social hub where people from all walks of life can grab a quick and satisfying meal. The first pølsevogne appeared in Danish streets in the early 1920s, and they remain an integral part of the urban landscape and Danish identity.

Anything on squared bread is a sandwich.
Hoagies, Submarines, Philly Cheesesteaks... are all sandwiches. They're just on rolls.
Lengthy bread still is sandwich. So hot dog is sandwich.
(I'm just having a blast working through all of this LOL)
Consider sloppy joes, it's ground beef in a burger bun and yet it's referred to as a sloppy joe sandwich(I'm just having a blast working through all of this LOL)
Yeah but nobody says sandwich after SJ, everyone knows what it is without that part. (Which I also eat on toasted sandwich bread.)Consider sloppy joes, it's ground beef in a burger bun and yet it's referred to as a sloppy joe sandwich

I'm with you, I was leaning into Maxi's insistence that a chicken sandwich on a bun is not a sandwich cuz it's on a bunConsider sloppy joes, it's ground beef in a burger bun and yet it's referred to as a sloppy joe sandwich

Right that's what I was on about as well. So everything on a bun is a burger but everything on square bread is a sandwich. It's like the mung bean/soy bean and square/rectangle thing.I'm with you, I was leaning into Maxi's insistence that a chicken sandwich on a bun is not a sandwich cuz it's on a bun![]()
