Bets show on TV?

I'm just in the middle of Season 1 after missing it amongst all the hype first time round but i'm absolutely hooked! Sean Bean is brilliant in it (I sadly was told he is killed off near the end of season 1 :woops: )

Discuss!

Crumb what's your MFC name so I can perma-ban you from my room!!! *SCOWL* HOW dare you?? hehe

Best show on tv :) By far.

I host a game of thrones night at my house with all my friends when its playing :) We have t-shirts that say our houses. We are dorks..

It is epic TV in a way that recently only Boardwalk Empire has been for me, The whole thing is intriguing

The USA does drama very well, The likes of Blue Bloods, Boardwalk etc

Just please stop ruining British comedy, Shameless USA is a disgrace

lol for the time being, it's Crumb_

I've been reading the books for 10 years, and before the first season ever aired, I did a re-read. Everything was fresh in my mind from the books as GoT played so I noticed the differences and the additions such as they were.

I know everything can't quite make a transition from page to screen. I know they did a fairly good job of it too and I also realize I am nitpicking the series
but I still can't help but to feel it was a let down for me... and there are some things happening in the series that I just can't get behind.

I love this show so freakin much. On its own I just think its an awesome show. I also love it for introducing me to a great series of books. GRRM has become one of my fav writers. Now I want to start re-reading the series again.

I'm the same way Crumb. I've read all the books, so I know what's going on, but I find myself sometimes confused during the show. I understand that they need to add things/take things out for non readers and allotted time, but I get disappointed frequently.

This may be the only time I ever found a laugh track enjoyable.

Really??? Really???

You do realize that at least one episode of every season was written BY George RR Martin?

And that he had a role in its production?

And that before writing the books he made his living writing for TV?

No they're not perfect..
perhaps I had such LOW expectations? But the TV show blew me away..

This is the best show, definitely top three with a serious battle for first place. I am re-watching the three seasons now, and will probably do it again before the fourth season! Even now I'm picking up things I've missed before (and some of them that seem really obvious). This is my third round on 1 & 2, second on 3.
I still love it.

I do realize that he is there for filming/production, and he does a good job, but I'm an avid reader and I get upset when things don't follow the books completely. I got upset with Harry Potter too, but those are still my all time favorite movies.

yep, I was aware of all that
and unlike you, I guess I had higher expectations just for those reasons PLUS HBO was doing it.. and if there was anyone that could do the books justice it would be HBO
and like DoctorVen, I've been an avid reader of the books for a long while.. and I am of the opinion that shit should not be changed if it doesn't have to be, and I saw no reason for the extra scenes
I think GoT is a good series... just not the best on television

The books are the books and the show is the show. You have to realize that they are two different animals. The show is an adaptation, not a literal translation. While I dont agree with every decision the showrunners have made, I respect their vision to tell the story they want to tell. Besides, if the show were exactly like the books in every little detail, it'd be pretty boring. The show gets the important stuff right and for me thats what counts.

I agree that the core of the story is still there, so far, but in my opinion it's slowly being hacked away so it'll end up being something different .
I don't respect their vision of the story, if you get the rights to do a book, you do the book as written, not take the opportunity to do something different because you think it'd be better on television.

I disagree. The show would still bring in new viewers who would be seeing it for the first time, and probably won't even touch the books... won't be boring for them. The built in fan base ie the people who read the books first, like myself, I think, would heartily enjoy seeing a literal translation of our favourite series come to the screen. (given a bigger budget of course) I'd like to see the Battle of the Trident in a flashback scene on screen... or give Tyrion more prosthetic make up so he really does look like he's described in the books.. or Battle of the Whispering Wood in all it's glory, not the pitiful treatment that it got in GoT.

if I hadn't read the books and wasn't such a uber fan, I'd probably be on the bandwagon with the rest of yous.

I completely agree. Now as caveat I am have almost finished the 2nd season and the 3rd book some maybe my opinion will change. But this is one of the rare cases were the TV series was better than books. To me the books are very good but hardly great, I can name at least 1/2 dozen epic fantasy series that I liked better, including both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. But as TV/movie series, Game of Thrones is better than either one. I also don't get all that bother by changes between the series and the books. If anything I wish they'd have change more dialogue and perhaps condensed more of the story.

I've never read the books (books with small print make me sick, as I get tension headaches) but I love the show and can't wait for the next season! :h:

You SIR do not agree with me.

You just called one of the best books of all time, 'hardly great'

Just to make it clear, I am a HUGE fan of the books and If i had to pick one, it'd be the books. But i love the TV series for what it is.

First,

Let me say hello! I'm new to ACF :)

Anyway, on topic. I personally think GOT is the best show on tv. I'm a huge fan of the books and show alike and am constantly wishing it was march so season 3 will start haha

Is it March yet?
Am I the only one that wants everything Cerise wears? Like, I'd rock all them silk dresses. The level of detail put into the shows is really amazing.

I'm awaiting A Feast for Crows in the mail. I'm read that book so hard. The books are sooo good. I mean, he does get a little excessive with the detail he puts into the food. Part of me wonders if his characters eat when he is hungry but determined to write for another hour before taking a break.

I really enjoy both the books and the show. While I'd love if the show was closer to the stories I read, most of the changes make a lot of sense to me and one of the biggest question marks I had moving forward is being addressed in season 3. (I know this thanks to a YouTube video previewing new cast members for the season.) I'm really anxious about this new season. Book 3 is my favorite of what's been written so far. 3/31/13 seems so far away, and I don't have HBO so it will be a couple days after that before I get to see the new episode. ><

I loved it, bit cheesy in many ways, but also awesome! I kind of fancy the imp, he's definitely the most charismatic character out of all of them, have NEVER thought of that actor as sexy in anything else, but in this he definitely has some sex appeal going on!
Currently reading the 1st book, it really is like the serious, they pretty much quoted it word for word which is a nice change. I'm a book lover so am preferring the book, kind of wish I'd read it first, I hadn't even realised there were books when I watched the series!

Just got a little Christmas present to myself and bought the Inside Game of Thrones book. Its basically all kinds of behind the scenes stuff about the making of seasons 1 and 2. So much beautiful stuff in there. Great stories, too.

Oh, Oh excited just found out second series is being released on DVD in the UK in March. I have been hunting for it for months, Amazon UK is taking pre orders for shipping in March.

Yeah they always release the DVD/BR right before the new season starts.
