How do I stop dwelling on the fact that I'm never able to attend AVN or other adult conventions?

If possible make it a goal and safe up for a bus/train/plane ticket to attend one. Once there taxi and ride sharing could be used to get around. If travel of any sort is out of the question, see if there are any livestreams of the events you could watch and be a part of it that way.

You can start planning for next year if you want. Save for flights, book early. Save for accomodation, book early. Save for spending money while you're there (food, drink, Ubers, anything you want to buy for/from the models while you're there).

I would try to find things in life I really like to do that take my mind away from not being able to attend the convention. Basically, just focus on what is in front of you going on in life. Sure it might not be as fun as the AVNs but, you know, it is stuff that could probably use the enthusiasm that you would have brought to the convention. Save that and repeat in the future.

I remember being younger and around your age and wondering why I couldn't go to Atlanta to see the Grateful Dead (people bailed and, not having a car, I had to bail too which sucked balls). I eventually got to see them again when I was more prepared.

I have been many times and it's one of those things that is not as fun as it looks. And that's coming from a model's perspective, which is arguably more fun than a members. Just realize that it's mostly walking around looking at different product booths and spending lots of money to get the flu.

There you go Guy, not worth dwelling on. You'll catch the flu, it's not as much fun as it looks and you'll just keep going back anyway. :)

Is flying out of the question?
Flying, Greyhound, there's plenty of options. And if you book plane tickets far enough in advance, they're pretty cheap, especially if you use Southwest - I'm going from Iowa to Vegas later in the month and my tickets are $136 each way, which is actually cheaper than taking the bus. When I went to the clip retreat last summer, I was initially going to Greyhound down there, but flying Southwest was the same price as bus tickets and WAY faster (40 minute flight versus 6-hour bus ride).

Wow that is a really good ticket price. I live pretty close to NV and would spend more on gas driving there than that.

And I can check two bags for free, too! Southwest is freaking awesome!

I've never been to AVN, but it strikes me as a giant adult-themed trade convention. If you're in Vegas for tourism, sure, go check it out. But I wouldn't make a special trip unless you're in the industry.

Did you find anything to be disappointing the first time you went there?

I went and attended the Cam

I went the first time to attend the Cam Mansion so it was super exciting and novel. The Expo was actually the less fun portion of that trip. And subsequent trips just felt less and less interesting. I really think you're not missing anything. Don't fret over it.

An MFC regular just told me that he got the flu from that last convention.

After reading what happened to some of the models this year I hope the MFC models boycott it next year

This may not be 100% accurate but I saw via twitter that a couple of models were drugged and I saw one was assaulted in Vegas itself and then there is the whole being told your nothing from Pornstars so I would quite like to see the models boycott it especially if it's not safe

Multiple accounts of roofies being given, attempted assault, non-consensual groping.

Now that I think about it, The Expo is the first time I ever experienced being groped without permission in my life.

WOW. I most definitely will not be going now. Thanks. That Really is horrifying.

Yeah, I read about that, and was wondering when someone would bring that up.

Yes its loud, to many people and honestly not that much fun. I do not drink so being around obnoxious drunk people was not fun.. Also dude's touching me all the time..I went 4-5 years ago and honestly NEVER again. If you really want to attend one just fly? It's not as great as you think also TBH

I would JUST go to fetcon but I would go for the classes and to shoot content not to attend the convention.

Wow, it's terrible that individuals would stoop so low as to do this. I know it's very real, and happens. Just saddening to hear about it when it does. Not only the drugging issue. But, also the groping, etc. We're better than that, yet many don't want to be so.

It's one of the reasons why I won't leave an unattended drink, and always have it in sight. A lot of times, I'll even put my hand over the opening and carry/protect the drink that way. Especially if I'm moving through a crowd. Too easy for someone to try and put something in it.

I'm also the one who will hold a table for others if they want to go dance. Have two left feet, and feel like an uncoordinated fool when I hit the dance floor. So, I opt to sit back at the table and watch while others go have fun.

This can happen to men as well. I know a guy who got his drink spiked at a bar. He blacked out. Someone found him and sent him back home in a taxi while he was unconscious.

Yep, I'm a guy and I protect my drink while I'm at a bar or anywhere as I mentioned above. Never know what's going to happen. Have seen too many people get fucked with regarding their drinks.

Though, now I rarely drink alcohol, so it's more water or soda/pop when I'm out. Still, same rules apply.
