Hi all!

I go by Kitty.

I just signed up with a studio to start camming. I wanted initially to do it on my own, but I have less than $40 to my name right now (kind of embarrassing!). How do people generally feel about studios? Yay/nay? They are taking 30% of my earnings, but I think it seems very promising. The people there were really nice.

Also, how do you pick a name?! I have so many ideas for names, but haven't figured out anything to make them stick out. I have a list of names if anyone wants to help. :)

And my last question, how was your first day online? I'm kind of curious about what to do and conversations to have. The studio I'm with will provide training and everything.

Unless the studio is offering something you don't have or can't do on your own - a physical place to cam from, equipment, or more frequent payment than the site itself offers - there's no point in working with one.

On names:

I want to add this tip as well. Please come up with a name that helps your brand. So many models have problematic names which hurts their brand and income in the long run. I believe in creativity and uniqueness. But names such as Russian teacake and Black Gestapo only works for so long

A helpful hint for names is this: make sure no other girl has it or incredibly something similar. Or that it's memorable and not sexyhotchick69 etc.

I might not be well qualified to speak on this because I'm new, but my screen name has brought me a fair amount of traffic. I chose something that was reflective of me and related to one of my interests (sci-fi lit). I get a lot of people who come through my room because they're into Dune and have had a few lucrative exclusive chats based on that alone. Don't just choose something that just stands out; choose something you relate to and can talk about. That's my two cents! I can't speak to studios, though, and - based on everything I've read - I second @SaffronBurke.

Thanks! I haven't thought about incorporating my interests but I like the idea of trying that.

Thanks!
I'm trying a real name with an alliteration.

I have a laptop and that's about it. Unfortunately I'm too low on cash to do it on my own. They said their average is $1500 for a model, but their top ones earn $3000-5000. Does that seem possible? I met a girl there that she said she first thought it was too good to be true.

I Googled my name when I started a few years ago, I found another Mia fox working as an escort in Sydney Australia, so I figured as a UK cammer this would be OK.
I didn't think to Google all the bazilion spellings of Mia and fox, skip forward a few years and I branch out to work on American sites and find out there's already 3 with my name and various spellings, I found this out because some of one models fans decided to start a little hate campaign against me for copying a girl with a spelling variation I would never have guessed to Google... Lol

Is the studio a physical place you are going to? or is it simply joining up with an agency online that may offer to do things like help you get started, set up your profile etc.

If the studio is paying for your internet, providing you with camera, lighting equipment, toys, outfits, shooting photos for you, creating videos and editing them for you or anything else like that.. that's fine.

If the studio is not doing these things, then run like hell. What are they taking a % of your pay for?

$1500 average for a model - per what? Per day? per week? Per pay period? per month?
If it's per month i'd say that's low. If it's per day its high.

If you have internet. a webcam. Some lights (you can use house lights). a laptop and a smile you can cam. hell plenty of camgirls cam without the smile :p You don't need a studio for that.

What site are you going to be working on? Who is the studio? Honestly those numbers don't sound super believable.

Wow, sounds terrible and petty to get so much hate for it. It's just a name!
I picked a name today that I haven't seen on google.

It's a physical place. They provide camera, lighting, promotion, and photos.
$1500 a week.

I guess my biggest issue is that I want money immediately and the ability to cosplay. I get overwhelmed at the idea of setting everything up.

Just be careful of tying yourself into any long term contracts, or contracts that mean you can 't leave and work on your own. The studio should also be giving you assistance with choosing a name..

If you can leave when you want, and want to try camming without setting everything up that could be a good option.
