I NEED TO KNOW WHY I CANT GET NO MORE THAN 20 PEOPLE IN MY ROOM. I JUST UPGRADE MY COMPUTER TO THE I7 PROCESSOR WITH 8GB. I HAVE THE LOGITECH C920 WEBCAM, I USE THE 3 POINT LIGHTING SYSTEM. I USE THE RECOMMEND SETTINGS FOR THE HD ENCODER BUT SOME HOW I STILL CANT CATCH A BREAK. SOMETIMES I JUST FEEL LIKE GIVING UP ON THE SITE. I SEE PLENTY OF FEMALES WITH ABOUT 50 PEOPLE IN THEIR ROOMS. IS THERE SOMETHING IM DOING WRONG? I JUST DONT GET IT!!!!!!! :angry4:

Holy smokes! No need to yell!

Streamate is less about room counts than MFC is, in my opinion. Are you trying to run privates, or GOLD shows? Usually when i'm doing a Gold show, I get a lot more people in my room (usually between 20-50) but not all of them pledge. When I'm not running Gold shows, it can be anywhere from zero people to maybe ten at a time? If there's more than a handful of people in the room, I would normally be taken to private, or I'd be wondering why so many people were in my room if I wasn't getting any privates/exclusives.

Have you checked your placement on the homepage? When you're on cam, just open Streamate.com in another window and search for yourself. Then you can see where you're ranked which is good to know. Maybe your rank is really low? I found it fairly easy to move up the ranks if you're online a lot!

Maybe you could post on here when you're online and one of us could check your stream to make sure everything looks good (high quality video & audio).

Otherwise without having seen you, maybe you need to move around more, talk more, be more engaging? Sometimes I click through Streamate and see room after room of girls just blankly staring at the camera. Cute outfits and lots of movement always attract my attention, and if the girl is fun, bubbly and chatty I'd be more likely to stay in her room.

Maybe they are put off by your overuse of caps lock?

Kidding.

Maybe they are put off by the color of your skin?

Not kidding.

This is one situation where pulling the race card might actually be legit. It sucks, but black models have it pretty hard on the internets. There just isn't nearly as much of a market for darker skinned cam girls. A quick check of the current Miss MFC top 20 shows 18 white girls and 2 Asians.

If you want to succeed, you really need to be the best of the best in order to attract the small niche market that's into ebony. Or you could do whatever Michael Jackson did. Without the nose job, of course.

Thanks geno and playboy for your positive input. As for the rest of you :hand: .

lol just kidding......or not!!!!

Sometimes I see black models that are doing some sorta angry black woman act. I'm sure some guys are into it but it can make the model unapproachable/unlikeable to some members. Like, right now page 2 at streamate has 4 black models. 3 are mean muggin and the other one looks bored as shit in the preview pics.

MJ had vitiligo, a skin disease. It started on his hand, which is why he wore that one glove. He made it out to be a fashion thing but it was to hide the whitened skin. Because there's not really a cure for Vitiligo, it just kept spreading, and eventually he appeared white.

It might be true that some black models are mean looking or look bored but what does that have to do with me? I'm always dancing, smiling, blowing kisses, engaging in conversations. I get kind of pissed off when I'm steady saying hello or something and I get absolutely no response. That's when I kick people out of the room. and yes my audio is on. I'm not saying that I don't get anyone in my room. Trust me, I have my fair share of regulars that adore me. I'm just saying my traffic could be better. How is it that a girl that is passed out sleep have about 50 people in her room and I'm dancing around and only have about 15 or 20? How is that fair?

If you are the type of model who likes to perform for a full room, perhaps you should give Chaturbate or MFC a try. I would try Chaturbate first, and see how that works, since MFC's camscore system can be brutal if you don't hit it off with some tippers during your first days. Spend some time perving first, to see if you think it's for you.

But that boils down life to a very simplistic truth. It isn't fair. And no one ever said it was going to be. Fair is a concept elementary school teachers try to push on kids to break up fights. Nowhere else in reality does it apply.

With Streamate's traffic, it's completely normal for people to jump in and out of your room, rarely saying hi. It happens to the best of us, so don't take it personally! Also, if you just have guys quietly lurking, it's best not to kick them out... For all you know, they might be away from the computer for a couple minutes.

Also, you'll drive yourself mad watching other rooms and comparing yourself. Don't do that. No two models are the same, so it's a moot point to wonder why you don't have another girl's amount of traffic. If you're happy with your earnings, focus on that. If you're not, read through the Streamate thread, the Gold show thread, and all the other stickies for helping out models. The search feature is your friend!

There's another factor that people aren't mentioning.

If you have free chat turned off, or aren't looking at it, then all you're seeing is the people who are logged in with a credit card on file. That means what you're looking at is like on MFC just counting the premium members. There could be 10 people watching that you don't even see!

I've been chatting and having fun, casually mention that it's fine if someone wants to take me private or exclusive cause I'm there to go private, and suddenly I'm taken exclusive by someone who wasn't in the room a second ago. I've had people pop in, tip $5, and leave again. Later I find a mail from them saying that they were watching me while logged out and "thanks for the entertainment" or "thanks for making me cum".

Lastly, my best days, there was never more than 5 people in my room at a time. There was half an hour between each private, sometimes longer. But the privates/exclusives went on for a long while, and the privates had more than 1 person. Not usually more than 3 people though, usually just 2 or 3. I make about $80 if I stay on for four hours at once, or $30 if I stay on for two hours, take a break, then get on for another two hours. (that's $30 for the whole thing)

So hang in there, don't let room numbers depress you. And, as stated, if you're looking more for a social atmosphere, either use the gold shows or try MFC.

And even those people are just the ones with usernames.
LOTS of people are seeing you, you're just not seeing them. You never know when they'll grab an account and sign up.
I'm always seeing new members who have signed up through my two affiliate links.

I wouldn't be surprised that if Streamate ever started showing the guests, it would be hundreds or even thousands in some rooms.

I guess I don't really understand the problem.

I typically have 3-5 people in my Streamate room. It's only my third week, and 27%-31% of my online time is in private or exclusive. I'm not getting rich, but I do fine, enjoy my time there, and hope it continues to build.

Unless you're doing Gold Shows and want quantity, I guess I don't understand why a high room count is so important or desirable. Maybe I'm missing something, and you can explain why that matters. There's a lot I'm still learning.

Her race?! In the camming business... really? Critical thinking was absent when that was speculated.

I'm a black woman, a dark skinned one. I work streamate (and elsewhere) without even using toys on myself. I charge 4.99 private, 5.79 exclusive, and a slow day equates to me spending 30% of time available in paid shows. Normally I'm 50%-75% of my time in paid shows. ...and I don't even use guest or free chat. I earned this way from the moment I set up my profile. When I was new it was true. Now that I'm not new it's still true.

Her race is not holding her back. It takes more that using the encoder to get on the front page; you have to be a consistent top earner too. Does no one notice that the front page is always littered with English speaking black women on streamate (myself included)?

Besides the obvious aforementioned proof, there's the issue of common sense... The internet is not a strip club. It is not limited by regional attitudes nor population. How many people are there online that look at live cam porn? Even a modest guess logically indicates that there can be no scarcity when it comes to how many of those men want women of color; especially compared with how few (yes, even hundreds of models count as a few compared to the huge number of potential clients) of us English speaking black women are available on cam at any given time. Clearly, race is not the issue. I bank on cam and so do plenty other black women. This is the rule, not the exception.

My advice to the OP, find a niche that's comfortable for you and work it. I do femdom now, but even before I switched to that a year ago I still earned comparably well. Also, the other poster was right to say that the number of people in your room on SM is largely inconsequential. I generally have only about 10 free chatters at a time (probably because I discourage lurkers by ignoring them), but my earning stats remain high. Try different hours maybe? Good luck.

Note: I don't feel the person who said it might be race was trying to be ignorant, but that was truly a false assumption I had to call out.

Edit: Yes, I have "noob" status here, but I am not new to camming. I have shared lots and been thanked lots on other cam forums (SW's other work and camming connection sections mainly). I do know this business. I'm kind of over the forum thing, but I made an account here just to reply. I did it because the adult industry can be trying, and I hate the thought of anyone being discouraged based on false info.

I wasn't going to get involved in this because I don't think I could provide any helpful advice on the matter but I will say one thing specifically.

Speaking as a white guy, I can tell you for certain that to me, beauty doesn't have a particular colour nor does it doesn't speak a certain language.

I can't speak about SM but I know MFC have some very attractive non-white models who appear to do quite well.

I have never noticed this. Page 1 is always white women for me. Like, right now page 1 has one black woman. What time of day is page 1 littered with black models?

TashaTaboo,

Thank you for an inspiring post and confirmation that traffic doesn't always equal money. As I stay consistent, I'm now in private or exclusive 45% to 51% of the time. I still only typically have 5 or 6 people in my room.

It's great to hear about other models' successes.

Normally I have about 10 people in my room, until I start a gold show and then i'll go up to 30-50.

I'm on the front page too while I am online, and I never really worry about how many people are in my room.

Streamate just isn't one of those sites that you get 50+ people in your room that often.

Right now I see 3 at the top.

Thank you for the informative posts.

I have registered at both MFC and Streamate about 6months ago but have lots of problems in getting ANY traffic on Streamate. Over this period I have not even made 1cent on Streamate. :(

Does it make a difference that I am from South Africa? Anyway I can work around this?

I have a good webcam, computer, lighting etc. Broadcast in HD Wide (High), but I NEVER have anyone in my room. During slow times on MFC I switch to Streamate but there I have no traffic. At least on MFC I have some traffic.

Does anyone have any suggestions as I really have no idea what to do. From reading many other posts it seems I should do well on Streamate, but do not understand why I dont. I have traffic on MFC and do okay (although I wish it was better), but I need to troubleshoot for more traffic.

Thank you.

Do you have any geoblocking restrictions on? Doing so will kill your traffic as only members signed in and not from your restricted area can see you.

What's your internet speed? Having a low upload speed especially will lower your placement. Also, try using the Encoder. It gives you better placement than even the other HD settings.

It will reduce your traffic but if geoblocking is important to you there is no reason you cant be successful with it in place. I do pretty well on streamate and geoblock. I know I could do a lot better if it wasnt in place but it doesnt stop me from making bank. If I didnt have any concerns about camming without location blocking I would for sure remove it but having it in place does not prevent you from becoming successful on the site :twocents-02cents:

Good point. I had just always gotten the impression that it severely affected your traffic. I didn't mean to imply geoblocking prevented one from being successful. My bad for the sleepy, incoherent post. :)

Don't take my word as any sort of sage veteran advice because I haven't even started camming yet but here's what I've been lead to believe from reading around:

You are not entitled to customers, you have to work for them.

If you're not getting a lot of people in your room when you have good lighting, good internet speed, and good quality pictures then it likely has something to do with you.

Think about your personality and how you present yourself. Charisma is everything; you need to have a stage presence. Critique yourself and try to determine what you may be doing that might be discouraging people. Remember you're selling a service and you have to make people want that service. There are thousands of other cam girls who dance, smile, and converse but what makes people want *you* specifically?

Also you need to be genuine. Maybe you think you're being personable but if its not genuine, people can tell so the lack of good vibes sends them elsewhere. If you're putting on the mask of being happy and upbeat during your shows while on the inside you're upset at the lack of participating customers it will show.

Truth be told you come off as kind of... bitter in this thread? This is highly concerning:

I get kind of pissed off when I'm steady saying hello or something and I get absolutely no response. That's when I kick people out of the room.
Don't... don't do that. The kick/ban abilities are for people who are generally being disruptive and rude. By kicking people for staying quiet you're ensuring they won't be back and won't be referring others to your room, aka you're quickly pruning your potential customers. How would you like it if you walked into a store and started looking around at stuff and after a certain amount of time an employee told you that if you weren't going to buy anything you needed to leave? That doesn't make anyone feel comfortable.

Also the massive computer nerd in me can't resist pointing out that an i7 and 8gb RAM isn't really going to help camming. :lol That's twice as much as you need for most MMORPG games and camming isn't even remotely as computer-intensive as those. On the tech side camming is more about need speed and picture quality than processing and memory.

How is your broadcast? It's not laggy or choppy is it? South Africa is at 47 on Akamai's speed rankings and 129 in Netindex's real time data rankings, putting it far below the speed of most of the countries people are connecting and broadcasting from.

No one is going to turn away from viewing you based on your location, but location can greatly effect the quality of your video feed and a crappy feed turns people away.

Not sleepy or incoherent at all :) And I am certain it puts you at a disadvantage. You miss out on all those passing guys who get lured in by your hustle/presence/chat/sexiness and can't help but sign up or sign in to join a show. Or the guys who browse for a girl/show without being logged in. You will be limited in this way so it's always worth pointing this out to models who are having difficulties with traffic/earnings. But I think if you are ok with accepting this disadvantage and you hustle hard you can still do well on the site.

The kick/ban abilities are for models to use at their own discretion. I kick/ban anyone I want, for whatever reason I want. If a room full of silent people makes me uncomfortable, I kick them because if I'm going to have a silent room, I'd rather have an empty silent room, much like I imagine the OP did (who I'm pretty sure isn't checking this thread since it's over a year old).

I have to disagree. Camming on SM with the encoder (that is highly recommended for optimal site placement) is very computer-intensive. If your computer isn't up to par, it won't matter how fast your internet is or how great your webcam is because your placement will suffer.
