How To Stop Piracy At Its Source!

Please share this information and join the conversation by providing your ideas and opinion!

We Are At War!

As cam models and digital content creators we are losing the battle against piracy. The pirates have stolen our content and are making a fortune with it. Piracy has turned into a big business full of truly evil capitalists. Many times the pirates are making more money than the people who create the content. Why else would they spread our content on a massive scale?

With a simple Google search of your name all of your cam shows and content is free for the world. It’s right there in the search engine being advertised and no one cares. Why would anyone want to purchase your content of pay for your cam show when they can watch it for free with just a few clicks? This not only hurts you but the content distributors (cam sites and clip stores) as well. We are all losing money from these copyright infringements.

DMCA Takedown Notices No Longer work!

Most of us spend countless hours defending ourselves by sending massive lists of links to our DMCA agents. If you're lucky some of your content will be removed but next week it will be right back online free for the taking. Sending notices to Google doesn’t work either. As soon as those links are de-listed they are immediately replaced with new ones. Anyone with half a brain knows where to find those de-listed links. To top it all off many of your notices are ignored because the pirates know that they won't be caught.

Technology Is On Our side!

We have been left in the dark while everyone else makes money on our content. The days of not knowing who is stealing our content must come to an end. Lucky for us there are 2 types of technology that can stop piracy at its source. The source being the cam sites and the transaction between clip stores and the pirates.

The 2 types of technology that I’m referring to are Digital Watermarking and Digital Fingerprinting. Both already exist and can be easily implemented server side by the cam sites and clip store when you are streaming or your content is being purchased.

Digital Watermarking can be applied to all types of video/media distribution including streaming. If done correctly watermarking in nearly impossible to remove. If the pirate tries to modify the content, uses screen capture software or even uses a camcorder to record the screen the watermark can not be removed.

Both technologies are known to greatly reduce piracy. Digital Watermarking has the capability to track and tell us exactly who the pirate is. This is the pirate's worst nightmare! Digital Fingerprinting blocks the content from being uploaded to tube sites like PornHub who currently utilizes this technology. See list of tube sites who participate in Digital Fingerprinting below. YouTube has been using Digital Fingerprinting since 2007.

We Must Fight Back! Reach Out To The Cam Sites & Clip Stores!

Be a part of the Anti-Piracy movement! Do not be silent! We must all ban together to take back what is rightfully ours! We don't stand a chance alone, but in numbers we have a strong voice. I urge you to contact the cam sites and clip stores and ask them to implement these solutions ASAP. The solution to stopping our content from being pirated is the distribution platforms.

Both the original creator and the content distributor will benefit greatly from these technologies. Entertainment is not free but the pirates are making it that way. It must stop now! These solutions will change the industry if implemented properly. The cam sites and clips stores have the information and money to make it happen.

The only way watermarking is going to be effective is if the clip stores and streaming sites implement it. The reason I say this is because content distributors know who their customers are. They have information such as name, username, email, IP, billing info etc. Nobody will want to get banned from their favorite websites or busted for pirating your content. Watermarking has to be done at the point of distribution or it is useless.

The only way to reduce piracy is to stop it at its source! The transaction between the original pirate and the cam site and/or clip store is that source. If we don’t utilize this technology we will continue to lose the battle against piracy.

Digital Watermarking

What is Digital Watermarking?

Digital Watermarking
is also known as Forensic Watermarking. Digital watermarking enables effective content identification by providing a unique digital identity to all forms of media content in a way that stays embedded with the content wherever it may travel. One application of digital watermarking is Source Tracking. A watermark is embedded into the digital content at each point of distribution. If a pirated copy of the work is found, the watermark may be retrieved from the copy to identify the pirate. This technique reportedly has been used to detect the source of illegally copied movies.

How Digital Watermarking Works

Digital Watermarks are easily embedded into content without interfering with the consumer's enjoyment of it. It is imperceivable to humans, but easily detected and understood by computers, networks and a wide range of common digital devices. The watermark can carry such information as who owns it, how it may be used or anything else the owner wants to convey. It can also trigger predefined actions, including linking to websites or other rich consumer experiences. The watermark applications can embed situational metadata such as where it was purchased, time/date of purchase, received format, purchaser’s username, purchaser’s IP address and other valuable information. Some watermark applications embed a distinct forensic watermark at each stage of content distribution, enabling pinpoint accuracy. This will allow us to identify exactly who the pirate is and enable cam sites and clip stores to ban offenders. This information can also be used as legal evidence in a criminal action if necessary .

Locating Content Online With Digital Watermarking

Internet search services are available that constantly crawl the web looking for uniquely watermarked content. Reports are then generated notifying the owner of where their content was found, allowing them to take any actions deemed necessary.

Effective location of content online helps content producers and distributors…

  • Ensure fair compensation for content usage online.

  • Monitor that the right content is being used on the right sites at the right time.

  • Quickly identify unauthorized usage of content to enable a range of remedies such as banning known pirates and seeking legal action.

  • Gather useful market intelligence about what consumers are accessing and where.

  • Ensure more effective brand management.
Digital Fingerprinting

What is Digital Fingerprinting?

Digital Fingerprints
are digital characteristics extracted from the original content (audio or video) which uniquely identifies the creator’s specific content. This unique identifier (fingerprint) can then be put in a database for comparison when content is uploaded to a website. If the content is banned from the website because of the identifying fingerprint, it cannot be uploaded. You will see a list of tube sites below that currently participate in Digital Fingerprinting.

Unlike Watermarking, Video fingerprinting does not rely on any addition to the video/stream. A video fingerprint cannot be "removed" because it is not "added". In addition, a reference video fingerprint can be created at any point from any copy of the video.

YouTube and Digital Fingerprinting

YouTube introduced content management and identification based on Digital fingerprinting technology called “Content ID” in 2007 and is used today by thousands of media companies to register their content and prevent illegal uploads. YouTube follows the copyright policy which empowers original content owners to either remove all previously uploaded copyrighted work and/or prevent newly uploaded pirated content. The same can be done in the adult world with the cooperation of content distributors .

Digital watermarking is one reason I would never share caps. Call me paranoid, but I just assumed camsites had a little something hidden in there somewhere.
The pirates have stolen our content and are making a fortune with it....Many times the pirates are making more money than the people who create the content. Why else would they spread our content on a massive scale?
I am curious if there is any data to support the bold statements. I know about paywalls and all, but not sure how lucrative it is. Idk.

  • Sorry to hear that.

That entire post reads as if it was written by someone trying to sell that technology to the masses. Truth is I can think of a half dozen ways of bypassing those methods so it's worthless.

We Are At War!

Hyperbole and nonsense.

cam models and digital content creators we are losing the battle against piracy.

Can you prove that in any meaninful way? How are you losing. Did you have it in the first place? Would you have it if piracy were gone? Seems like pirates and cam models have a separate customer base to begin with so 'losing the battle' is an exaggeration.

pirates have stolen our content and are making a fortune with it.

Do you have financial statements for these supposed fortunes?

Piracy has turned into a big business full of truly evil capitalists.

Again, where's the portfolios showing business returns?

Many times the pirates are making more money than the people who create the content.

Unproven in the least. But if it's true it sounds like they have a better business model than cam models. Instead of coming up with this nonsense you'd think you would want to copy what they are doing. They are making all those fortunes after all.

Why would anyone want to purchase your content of pay for your cam show

I've heard that since camming began. Hell I've heard that applied to other things long before there was even a world wide web at all. Yet people still buy them don't they? Yes, yes they do.

This not only hurts you but the content distributors

Unproven statement. Prove the income would result if pirates were gone. In fact I'll go one further. You state you are losing the battle, as if magically there was a point you were winning. Things have progressed now where they are worse than ever before. Yet with the recent leak of top 20 wages by mfc going back to 2009 it clearly showed the top 20 incomes have steadily increased over that time. How do you reconcile your statements that piracy is winning the battle with cam models making more than they ever have on average? Seems like piracy isn't winning much in reality.

We are all losing money from these copyright infringements.

The people who seek out those pirated videos were never your customer. They would have never paid you in the first place. Therefore you lost no money.

TL;DR
These are useless claims that aren't proven.. They try to rile up people into paying money for a service they don't need in the first place and don't work that well.

You are absolutely right. We are trying to sell it to the masses and the ball is already rolling. I personally have spent countless hours and thousands of dollars to have my content removed. The people who purchase our content and share it with the world to make a profit will be exposed. Streaming sites and clip stores have the power to ban the pirates and expose exactly who they are. The larger DMCA agencies are starting to sell this technology to their customers. Anyone will have a hard time bypassing the watermark especially when you cant even remove it by, cropping, re-encoding, or recording the screen with a camcorder.

I'm not surprised that anyone that pirates content or doesn't understand the technology would be against it.

Maybe so, but most pirates are just plain not going to give a shit about bypassing it. Some of our content does end up on tube sites, so it's great that there's a way to avoid that happening, but the sites the majority of people here find frustrating are those that are located outside of the United States and that ignore DMCA requests. I'm not against it, I just think it sounds like a waste of time.

I also think it's naive to imagine that banning a pirate's IP or credit card would do much to stop them, when both IP addresses and credit cards are disposable to them. It might stop some random first-timers, but I don't imagine it will reduce piracy overall.

This does have it's uses, e.g. videos sold only to a few known individuals could be tracked, but it's just not going to make all that much of a difference in this particular industry in my opinion. I wasn't worried about piracy to begin with. I don't think piracy is a threat to the income of most camgirls. Privacy would be the bigger concern.

You ought to distinguish between losing money vs. not earning it and copying vs. stealing, btw.

Most of the pirated content comes from a small amount of people. The rest spreads by sharing. The point of the technology is to ban the biggest offenders and expose who they are. Nobody wants to get caught for piracy. Many countries outside of the U.S. have copyright laws. The technology works in all other areas of media where it is implemented and it will work in the adult industry weather you want it to or not.

I have to say that find it interesting to hear that a content creator is so against anti-piracy technology. I can only assume that not much of your content is being passed around. The sharing of content holds no advertising value. That is why DMCA agencies and Anti-Piracy technology exist.

Right now there are a ton of content creators in youtube going ape shit crazy over their content being distributed by other people on Facebook. So while I hope technology will make our lives easier. It doesn't seem to be doing much at the moment to stop re-distribution.

Personally I can't re-watch cam shows. Without the interaction, it's actually just kind of slow and boring. Like 2 hours of some one hanging around naked.

Just to add some thing. I think video of ambercutie posted on reddit that turned me onto MFC. That one 30 second video rip; has resulted in me tipping allot of tokens over the years. Most of the modems I fallow and tip have been the result of a photo or video posted some where.

YouTube prevents copyrighted content from being uploaded to their servers by utilizing Digital Fingerprinting. This is different than Digital Watermarking. YouTube does nothing to prevent their users content form being uploaded anywhere else. PornHub along with the other tube sites listed above also use Digital Fingerprinting.

Digital Fingerprinting should not be confused with Digital Watermarking which relies on inserting identifying features into the content itself, and therefore changing the nature of the content. Some watermarks can be inserted in a way that they remain imperceptible by a viewer. A robust watermark is difficult to detect and remove.

Since watermarks must be inserted into the video, they only identify copies of the particular video made after that point in time. For example, if a watermark is inserted at broadcast it cannot be used to identify copies of the video made before the broadcast.

Video fingerprinting does not rely on any addition to the video stream. A Digital Fingerprint cannot be "removed" because it is not "added". In addition, a reference video fingerprint can be created at any point from any copy of the video.

Watermarks offer some advantages over fingerprinting. A unique watermark can be added to the content at any stage in the distribution process and multiple independent watermarks can be inserted into the same video content. This can be particularly useful in tracing the history of a copy of a video. Detecting watermarks in a video can indicate the source of an unauthorized copy.

While video fingerprinting systems must search a potentially large database of reference fingerprints, a watermark detection system only has to do the computation to detect the watermark..

The only way watermarking is going to be effective is if the clip stores and streaming sites implement it countries outside of the United States start enforcing US law/responding to DMCA requests/etc. etc. Which they won't. And why should they? So. Nope.

Many countries cooperate with copyright laws. Here are some links so you can get up to speed with international copyright laws.

If you can't see how piracy affects cam girls and their income... You're most likely in the wrong business...

Over 544,000 URL's have been removed from Google search results by MyFreeCams!
Most of these URL's are to 5 websites!

Over 110,000 URL's have been removed from Google search results by Chaturbate!
Most of these URL's are to 8 websites!

All of the content is still online and is automatically updated daily.

That means probably less than 8 people have pirated and spread millions of hours of models content for the world to watch for free. No tokens or tips came from the freeloaders who watched those millions of hours of cam shows!

Being that the pirates are paid by every download... They made a hell of a lot of money!

Don't believe me? Take a look for yourself. It is all public record!

Myfreecams Google Transparency Report with Over 544,000 URL's listed:

https://www.google.com/transparencyreport/removals/copyright/search/?q=myfreecams

Chaturbate Google Transparency Report with Over 110,000 URL's listed:

The only reason this content is getting pirated by only a handful of people is because the cam sites are not using Digital Watermarking technology to identify and block the pirates. Digital Watermarking technology would provide legal evidence to go after and stop those 8 pirates.

Now tell me why you would be against Anti-Piracy technology for the adult industry and cam world? Are you one of the pirates?

Wow. Pretty condescending, yeah? I can obviously directly see how it affects camgirls, given that I am a camgirl (and your assumption that there is not much of my content being passed around is fully incorrect). I'm a camgirl with a particular interest in intellectual property law, for that matter...

Besides camming I've also been deeply involved in the music industry, and anti-piracy measures were a waste of time there as well. At best! I think they can actually be detrimental! I did directly say that I'm not against the technology and that it has its place. It's just that I don't personally find it useful. I could go into much greater depth, but you don't really seem open to discussion. Probably, I just have an entirely different philosophy on this matter. And that's fine. There's a pretty big market for this thing that I think is kind of crap.

There could be some use for this on clip sites as opposed to live streaming sites, in my opinion. Then again, I'm not sure how big of a dent it would make given that the people sharing that sort of thing are often using prepaid or even stolen cards through a VPN and are trading them on private forums where a search engine won't find them. The comment above talking about how one of the main attractions of live streaming is the actual LIVE bit is extremely relevant here as well! Pirate all you want, but you cannot replicate actual interaction (well, yet).

Also, can I directly address this bit? Provide all the legal evidence you want, but if those 8 pirates and their websites are not in the United States, good luck to you in taking them down. Lack of knowing who is doing it is NOT the main issue here.

I'm pretty sure everybody on the forum understands why piracy is bad for camgirls. I've spent enough time on the various camgirl web pirate sites to know that is a boatload more than 8 pirates involved.

But rather than engage in pissing contest let me ask you to explain, using little jargon as possible how your technology helps camgirls in these 3 scenarios.

ButtHurt Bob, had a falling out with his favorite model. He uploads the 10 videos he bought from her to a tube site and also torrents them on piratebay.

Capper Craig has sophisticated automated system where he automatically logs in as guest when any of his top 50 favorite models. The shows are automatically uploaded to a fileshare site like upstore or datafile.
A link to the shows is posted in a forum devoted to sharing porn.

Newbie Neil won a rare B/G video in guessing game on MFC. He puts in his dropbox, and posts a link on Reddit.

Each of the 654,000 URL's that are listen in those two reports contain full pages of content. I know for a fact that people watch the pirated content because asshole have directly told me that they watch it on many occasions.

Then again, I'm not sure how big of a dent it would make given that the people sharing that sort of thing are often using prepaid or even stolen cards

As soon as stolen credit cards are identified they are blocked by the credit card processors.

Provide all the legal evidence you want, but if those 8 pirates and their websites are not in the United States, good luck to you in taking them down. Lack of knowing who is doing it is NOT the main issue here.

Clearly you should read those links about international copyright treaties. Even if you cannot go after them legally you can prevent them from accessing to content by blocking them and stopping their ways around being blocked.

The key is to prevent it from happening over and over again.

Blocked credit card? Get a new one. Stolen or legit, it's trivial for anyone serious about it to do.

International copyright treaties? Alright. Well. It's frowned upon to mention certain URLs here. You want us to PM those to you and see how fast you can get them taken down, though? Clearly I haven't read about this subject because I disagree with you!

Yes, you can block someone *if* you somehow identified them as a pirate *and if* they're not smart enough to delete cookies and switch their IP with a VPN... And then maybe you can even get Google to take a listing down, when the pirate and/or host refuses to comply with your DMCA because conveniently it's all located in a country that doesn't care about copyright treaties (wow, I wonder why they chose to host things there?).

You can limit things to an extent but I mean... I see this all as sticking a finger in a dike. It will happen. Over and over again. Cost/benefit I'd say you're much better off ignoring it in nearly every case.

If this was true copyright offenders would already be blocked. But they are not because it is unenforcable internationally.

Read what you're writing, basically? What will a watermark do? It's already established where this content is from, so clearly no one is about to be successful in having it taken down beyond being hidden by Google (and obviously that doesn't work out well). "All of the content is still online and is automatically updated daily." If you think you can successfully block pirates from accessing those feeds based on IP or anything else you are simply fooling yourself. It doesn't matter if we can identify who did it that last time by tracking a watermark, they will just switch IPs the next time. I can 100% prevent this from happening to me by never camming again, that's about it. Most of the content on those sites is from public chat. There isn't even any need for whoever captures it to log in. And then... it's public chat. We've already accepted that people will see it for free.

This is a good strategy for movie studios distributing screeners to known, identifiable individuals with something to lose. In many other scenarios it's much less useful.

(Anyway, at this point I'm going to back out and say that I'm aware that I have some fairly extreme views on this subject matter, and also that it tweaks my aspergers, so I'm consciously going to choose not to rant more! By no means should you take what I say as representative of camgirls in general, I think many of them will be much more open to the idea than I am! And for the record, even I wasn't entirely opposed :p)

Great Questions! Ultimately that is for the software developers and the clip stores to figure out. However lets try to answer these based on the simplest understanding of the technology. :)

Q: ButtHurt Bob, had a falling out with his favorite model. He uploads the 10 videos he bought from her to a tube site and also torrents them on piratebay.

A: Those 10 videos that ButtHurt Bob bought are each uniquely watermarked. This watermark(s) can contain ButtHurt Bob's Username, Email, IP Address, Mac Address, Device, Browser, Time, Date, or anything else they would like. The Cam Site or Clip Store has ButtHurt Bobs billing information and other info on file and he knows it. This acts a deturant for ButtHurt Bob because he doesn't need the head ach of getting caught and he knows he will be banned forever.

However lets say ButtHurt Bob lost all fucks... He distributes the content. When it's found by human or bot Butthurt Bob is banned forever and the security team finds ways to keep him from coming back. If he continues then the information is used in evidence in a massive lawsuit causing ButtHurt Bob to go bankrupt and most likely get divorced losing his family.

If all else fails the FBI can get involved and honeypot ButtHurt Bob's ass!

Q: Capper Craig has sophisticated automated system where he automatically logs in as guest when any of his top 50 favorite models. The shows are automatically uploaded to a fileshare site like upstore or datafile. A link to the shows is posted in a forum devoted to sharing porn.

A: This is the cam site's security team's problem to deal with. If they are stupid enough to allow guest to use up bandwidth by watch live streams without being registered then they deserve to be pirated. The cam sites are popular enough that they don't need guest freeloading. The models should support the site that provides solutions to this issue. There is no reason to support anyone who takes large percentages of their money without having their best interest in mind.

Also keep in mind that Upstore and Datafile are liable for what is on their server. The cam site can work with the hosting sites to setup Digital Fingerprinting like PornHub does. This will prevent the file from being uploaded in the first place.

Q: Newbie Neil won a rare B/G video in guessing game on MFC. He puts in his dropbox, and posts a link on Reddit.
A:
Newbie Neal needs to download the rare B/G video from the websites system. This watermarks all of Newbie Neal's information into the video(s). Username, Email, IP Address, etc.. The Cam Site or Clip Store has Newbie Neal's billing information and other info on file and he knows it. This acts a deturant for Newbie Neal because he doesn't need the head ach of getting caught and he knows he will be banned forever.

However lets say Newbie Neal lost all fucks... He distributes the content. When it's found by human or bot Newbie Neal is banned forever and the security team finds ways to keep him from coming back. If he continues then the information is used in evidence in a massive lawsuit causing Newbie Neal to go bankrupt and most likely get divorced losing his family.

If all else fails the FBI can get involved and honeypot Newbie Neal's ass!

Obviously there are many scenarios and solutions to the issue. None of which are simple. That is why we have smart people such as software developers, security experts, and lawyers to figure it all out.

Honestly the FBI should be involved because Google has all the evidence they need. It's very well documented that these few sites probably have millions of copyright infringements. Also there is no reason these sites are still found through Google, Yahoo, and Bing. You would think that after so many infringements you would get banned from being listed in the search engines.

Jesus fucking christ, just tell me when it's time to have the mark of the beast on my forehead and let's be done with it. You are coming across as just a tad fanatical.

Some I agree with. I don't care for guests being able to watch, but at the same time, I see why camsites allow it. Some of your allegations, such as the claims of pirates making fortunes, I am not too sure of. Leeches don't pay.

Q: ButtHurt Bob, had a falling out with his favorite model
I beg your pardon...
Bob has done more than anyone I know of to defend models from those who seek to do them ill. I won't sit idly by while you run his good name down. You take that back.

I feel like all entertainment industries (movies, porn, music, books, etc) are at a weird time now where we want to fight piracy, often to the detriment of those who pay for it (for example, you can buy digital comics - but you must read them on our app, etc). If camsites instituted these policies, that'd be fine, but really I believe digital content will always be pirated somehow & I think for most of us small-fish producers, focusing on piracy when we could be focusing on increasing quality or even "conversion" of pirates/freeloaders to paid fans, as opposed to swimming against the current of piracy until we drown, is healthier/smarter.

I personally torrent some things and often downloading a song or book has lead me to purchase the same item or other things from that creator. If it doesn't, I likely wouldn't have ever paid them anyways, so they aren't losing money. Does that make it morally or legally right that I chose to "sample"? No. But the amount of money that entertainment corporations sink into fighting piracy while simultaneously complaining that they're losing money because of it is a bit silly. And a camsite that allowed no guest viewing would be a camsite with no members.

I'm not opposed to this and the technology sounds cool but I think hyperbolic talk of war and massive lost income is incorrect and dramatic; piracy happens and it would be great if it didn't but currently it does so for those of us who can't implement this stuff (because we don't own camsites), focusing on the negative can be a consuming and fruitless venture. Most camgirls would be better to focus on the positives, such as the guys who DO pay.

*two cents emoticon*

Also if the FBI got involved to bust Butthurt Bob for sharing ten of my videos, I'd question the use of federal resources -- I think expecting the FBI to care about a handful of homemade porn vids is unrealistic. I think it's enough to say he'd get banned from the sites he downloaded them from.
