I can't disagree. There's many things to be disrespected that aren't sacred or religious.

In a way, the discussion reminds me of another very old discussion about jokes, and whether or not "rape" was taboo for jokes. Many people took sides, examples were given, a few changed their mind, many did not.

By posting this I know I'm just perpetuating an argument that probably isn't going to go anywhere as I think it's totally legitimate that people can/should be allowed to be offended by whatever they please but here goes:

Let me preface this by saying that I'm neither particularly offended by library shows nor religious-themed shows--I don't seek out or really ever watch either type of show--but I've long ago come to grips with the fact that the internet is filled with basically any weird thing anyone could ever imagine, and so for me--it just kind of is what it is. I'm not being forced to watch anything, so I don't get worked up about it.

Back to the matter at hand: Maybe a more direct comparison would be to compare camming from a library to camming from a church. I've never heard of or seen a cam model camming from a church (and I certainly wouldn't want to know about it or watch it).

Churches (and the religions they are associated with) are generally considered sacred to those within the church's religion. So obviously, using a church as a camming location would be very offensive to a large number of people (people who utilize the church, those within the religion, those that respect religious practices).

Libraries on the other hand do not seem inherently sacred, but as someone who knows a librarian or two--this is not always the case (dedicated librarians can be VERY zealous and devout to their place of work). To a librarian, a library might be every bit as sacred as a church is to let's say a priest. On the surface, this might seem like a silly comparison, and MOST people would consider camming from a church to be more offensive than camming from a library--but is it wrong for someone to hold libraries as more sacred/important than churches, even if this is not a majority opinion? Personally, I don't believe so. From another angle, perhaps the public library is a place where a parent allows their child to visit after school thinking it's a totally safe appropriate place for their child to visit--does that not push it a little closer to "sacred"?

Obviously this comparison of churches to libraries is very general. There is a (seemingly) big difference in offensiveness between camming from an empty university library at 3:00AM vs. camming from a public library next to a school in the middle of a day. The same might be said about the difference between camming from a prestigious Catholic church vs. camming from some cult leader's "church" that doubles as a two-car garage. Either way, I feel like it's up to each individual to decide what they are offended by and what they aren't--and I don't necessarily believe that any argument (no matter how strong) should necessarily change that.

Things that are offensive to one person (or group of people) are almost inherently exciting/provocative to another person (or group of people)--so... in the camming world, I suppose the key is to decide if the excited people potentially outweigh those that are offended--and that the level of excitement/buzz that is created is enough to justify the people that you may have turned away permanently.

Just a :thumbleft: to krukstyle there for hitting the nail on the head, at least to me.

to me a place which holds 1000s years worth of stories, information, art and culture is more 'sacred' then an avarage church, but is essense, everyone's entitled to their own view on that, same as everyone's entitled to their own religion. I completely understand where people who don't like religious themed shows are coming from. But, same could be said for other cultural themes, native american headdresses, dressing up as a geisha, etc. etc.

I am a big follower of sacred sex and tantra, where an orgasm is one of the most profound spiritual experiences. But I'm afraid that's got little to do with shock-value cam shows. (but who knows, maybe it does)

I once got scoffed for using an indian wallhanging with a ganesha as a backdrop, defiling it with my naked dancing in front of it. I get where they're coming from. but if you're so religious that that is bugging you, maybe you should not browse porn sites.

At some point, I fear I'm going to stumble into your room whilst you are doing a striptease dressed as Ganesha

I think anything with a touch of taboo is going to be offensive to someone. Otherwise it wouldn't be taboo. In that respect, it can't be defended, and probably shouldn't be.

I guess where it gets fuzzy is when it becomes an ethical debate, particularly when the first rule of fucking is consent. So I get the argument that broadcasting from a public place is questionable because there's a risk of indirectly drawing a stranger into a sex show without their knowledge. I also know that many (most?) cam girls are careful about this, or they ensure that they already have that stranger's consent. But the taboo is that they don't - that they're camming somewhere they shouldn't - so they at least need the illusion of that. And then it becomes a debate of what if's. What if someone shows up on cam without realizing it or unknowingly sits next to a girl diddling her business? If that stranger doesn't know, it's arguably wrong. If they do know, it defeats the purpose.

So, it seems to me that these shows are for people who are into that illusion and the what-if of maybe-it's-real. And the thing that turns those people on is also going to be the thing that pisses other people off. But you could also say that about camming as a whole.

My whole issue with the 'public place' or work type shows is the lack of respect that it affords anyone who is not a model and who appears on cam... or, conversely, to the people who may inadvertently stumble upon the model doing the show.

One US model is on on her front porch, right now, doing a full on cum show with a toy. The issue with this is 'what about her neighbors?' It's still not the school year in most of the US, so there is every possibility a minor could walk by and see this. Plus her neighbors, if they are home, could see it.

That's a lack of respect for others when doing these sorts of 'public place' shows.

What we all do as consenting adults in the privacy of our own homes (as in inside our homes or in an area on our property where our neighbors/random people won't stumble upon us-- like a privacy fenced in yard or something) is fine and our own business. Once we take it to a place where anyone and everyone can be subjected to it, however, it is no longer fine and dandy. Now others are being subjected to our perversions, etc. It's a lack of tact and an inherent lack of respect for anyone beyond ourselves. And that's not cool.

Are you 100% positive that the model hasn't taken precautions to hide herself but it just appears from the viewers POV to be 'completely viewable to the public'? Believe me, many models take this seriously and put up safeguards not only to protect themselves but unknowing people.

While not every model is cautious, let's not jump to conclusions that everything can be seen. It might be "public" to keep things exciting for everyone in involved but smoke and mirrors, baby. Smoke and mirrors. ;)

I chat with one model who does library shows where she's always looking around because she heard someone. Or she quickly ducks for her shirt because someone walked by in the next aisle... Close calls like that.

The truth is she's in the basement, last aisle furthest from the stairs. The stairs are the only way for the public to get down there. And she has a friend with who sits by them. They have walkie talkies with them. A couple clicks on the button from the friend alerts her that someone is actually walking down the stairs for real.

Illusion, sorry for bringing hers to light. But it kind of fit in with your post. It's one of the reason's I don't mind most library shows. I figure the model already has the logistics worked out so I don't get worried about it. I usually end up laughing at the ones making the scared comments about getting caught.

Edit - and she's not on the forum. So if you're reading this it's NOT you i'm talking about.

Never getting on when they say they will. NEVER.
I have some tokens that I've been saving for one girl in particular because I've followed her on twitter for a while and she seemed really awesome. Her tweets would go something like this:
-MFC in 2 hours!
I get on MFC and look for her, she's not there. Then, an hour after she was already supposed to be on..
-Gettting in the shower and then hopping on MFC!
Then two hours later....
-Cam soon!
And then she just never signs on apparently. I've never seen her directly address not showing up, and she will tweet like 25 random tweets all throughout the day unrelated to camming at all. After days and days of this I just gave up and gave the tokens to someone else.

That happened to me once, but it turned out she lived in my state and had it blocked. She was coming on, I just never knew it.

Same here with Morella. Had never seen her before. Turns out the location I like my VPN set to she has blocked.

Call herself fat on cam. I'm sorry it is just incredibly unattractive to me.
I can understand it if the model appeals mostly to a BBW fetish fan base. I think they might enjoy the use of that word like SPH fetishists enjoy the word "tiny." But if it was simply to put herself down, that's a turn off.

I'm always freakin' late. I start getting ready at like 10 mins after I said I'd be on. I've explained this to my regulars frequently, so they kinda know what to expect. It's an awful habit! But 9.8 times out of 10 I do end up on cam within an hour or so. Other days, I delayed because I was hoping to snap out of my funk/sickness/not feeling it mood before I got on and it didn't work, so I take then night off. :(

I can see her profile though, so that's not it.

Oh definitely. It was a very thin girl. I feel for her if she feels that way and want to give her lots of hugs. I just think confidence is a huge part of sex appeal.

Even for a BBW, it would still look/feel a little weird to say that, at least in free/public chat. That's more something that I'd talk about to someone with a weight-gaining fetish during a private.

oh man, this has become such a bad habit of mine. I tweet I will be online in ~blah hours, but then I will fall asleep on the couch or not cam because of personal issues and I just don't bother tweeting "hey sorry, about last night." I feel that always apologizing is just as annoying as not showing up, but that doesn't mean I should not still address the people I told I would make a cam appearance. I always feel so terrible that I do this and it is certainly a reason I have hindered some of my own success on MFC. Nobody loves a consistently flaky model. I love that you post this. I annoy the shit out of myself with this behavior and it most undoubtedly annoying to my followers. This is something I am definitely going to be a lot more conscious about. Your post feels like a good slap in the face to help change a bad habit. Thanks Noe.

I get over this by not tweeting that I'm getting on camera until I'm actually ready. Because if I tell someone my plan, I do not follow through with said plan.

I think I may start giving less exact time estimates and then tweeting when I am ACTUALLY getting on so I feel less bad about my estimates being so off. :)

I cannot estimate how long it'll take me to do something very effectively, so I just say "getting ready" or "on now". I seem to actually do better at getting on at the right time if I don't give a specific time frame.

I always remind people I'm getting on cam in an hour, if I can sit down and get ready. I also am lame and will sit there and wait for the time to get on cam hit the time. XD (Meaning, if I get on for 2, and I am ready by 1:30, I'll sit at the computer with the TV and wait for it to be 2...>>)

I try to allot myself time during the day if I'm not gonna be on or be late.

Did she refer to herself as "fat" as in overweight or "PHAT" mean Pretty Hot And Tempting? ;)

I think consistency and keeping your word is important. I'm not making an excuse for girls not showing up when they said they'd be there but here's some food for thought with models being late...

I get the, "If it was any other job, she would be expected at x time" but let's face it - this is not like every other job. A model might try hard to make it at a specific time but someone calls them who doesn't know that they're a cam model and she can't exactly say, "Hey... I have to be at work at X time." Certain shows, looks, etc. take varying times that she didn't anticipate, something she planned is failing, technical difficulties or the model has an anxiety disorder who needs to make sure she's in the right mood prior to logging on before being in front of a hundred eyes.

I know this is late to the game but I just now came back to this thread to see this

But it isn't sacred so whatever you do there isn't disrespectful. It can only be disrespectful if someone finds it sacred.

I'm assuming you're trying to say that's what I'm saying and it not. there are plenty of ways to be disrespectful. (flipping someone off in traffic.. for example) I don't find doing a non-nude show in a library to be any of them. You do. Why is this so hard to understand? Why must I be making an excuse?? I don't really understand.. though at this point I guess this is rhertorical question.

Libraries aren't sacred to me. So no, its not disrespectful to me :)

In response to the general discussion about 'sacred' things...

If you find someones beliefs harmful/problematic I can understand why you might not see the need to respect their "sacred" space. In the same way that I was being very disrespectful when I was arrested for civil disobedience. I won't go into the full details as they are identity-related but I was arrested many years ago for doing something very disrespectful to get attention for the cause I believe in, and because i felt the entity I was protesting against was dangerous.

All I was trying to share was my personal belief that churches, temples etc.. are sacred to me. That religious iconography is sacred to me. And that I personally won't violate that and it upsets me to do so.

I'm not saying models should cease to do these shows if they disagree.. I just wanted to make that statement :)

I think it all is really interesting because so much of the time there is no clear answer, its not 100% black and white.. boundries are personal, and blurry.. and steeped in our own sense of what is right and wrong.

There are two important things to think about when planning a 'taboo' show:

1) your conscience. Not PiD's conscience (no matter how much he seems to think that everyone shares his sense of right and wrong, deep down and must just be making excuses about it)

2) If your conscience is ok with it, is it worth the amount of people you may piss off/offend? What about the legal consequences? Are you willing to risk those?

"does this sit right in my soul?"
"is this worth the potential consequences"

If those things come up clear.. then you should do what you damn well please.

I really like models that do this although the not getting on because it is too early isn't necessary. :). If model says I'll cya guys tomorrow, I really want to see a tweet early in the day, saying I'll be on morning, evening, late night etc, or I'm sorry guys I wouldn't be on today. Then an hour or two before your plan to cam giving a time "7ish", and finally a tweet saying I am on in my cute/sexy outfit (pic) doing a control show, ice show whatever. Obviously shit happens and you might fall asleep instead of camming, or have to rush to the pet hospital or whatever.

To me communications is more important than consistency.

I also think if a model is having troubling getting on cam twitting that you will on later acts as a motivator.
