I've been a member on Streamate for a couple of months now. I've spent quite a bit of time in private and exclusive sessions with models from all over the world. I think I've done a pretty good job of learning camming's social conventions and so forth, but one thing puzzles me: why do so many models ask me to open my web cam as soon as we go private? I finally gave in the other day with my favorite model and C2C'd, but it was awkward, to say the least. So much so that I haven't been back to her room since. I'll go back, of course, because I have a ridiculous crush on her :) , but come on, I'm just a middle-aged guy from the suburbs who passed the "dad bod" phase years ago and am now fully in the granddad bod phase. I'm not insecure, but I'm not delusional, either.

So why do models want to C2C? Is it just curiosity about who's watching them, or maybe to make the experience more real? Or is it just good for business in some way? I just don't get it.

I’m a cam girl on streamate exclusively and 100% of the time the guys choose to do c2c. I never ask them to do it—I just let them know it’s available and many take me up on it. I think at least for me, it’s more for the members enjoyment. I don’t mind whether they want to get on cam or not—my preference is that they’re comfortable.

It is indeed good for business because it allows the experience to be more intimate. The shows I do where c2c or phone are involved are nearly always longer than without it.

Personally I like to see what my guys/girls look like. I feel like it helps me understand my clients more and makes the experience more fun & intimate. I also make it a point to compliment something about them (their size, smile, skin, facial hair, etc) because who knows the last time they had someone say something nice to them and seeing them smile just adds another layer of satisfaction and connection. I understand it could be awkward, but I think the right model will make the client feel comfortable and maybe even confident in a c2c scenario.

It may simply be what they are expecting since most ppl do it?

I like c2c because I'm curious and it helps me make a connection better BUT I wouldn't ever want someone to feel uncomfortable.

Dad bods are hot.

I don't really care for c2c. Because I don't really need it to put on a show or needing to know what the member looks like. Also I sometimes can't see what the person is doing because my eyesight is atrocious and streamate doesn't allow me to make c2c box any bigger. So I don't ever push it. Everyone is welcomed to turn on their cam. Audio will be turned on in exclusive.

I think this is the major reason. C2C helps increase member engagement in a general manner, and engagement is profitable. It also allows models to gauge your body language and reactions and they can guide themselves accordingly and give more of what you like and less of what you don't.

In regards to SM it's C2C also gives you voice chat access which means sessions communication can be done without the model break mood to type on the keyboard and generall improves the flow of things. Of course this is assuming the member put any effort into their own camera and audio setup and if latency isn't a massive factor.

C2C and privacy are the two reasons I only do exclusives on SM.

I've started muting member audio because so many don't think about the other end. So many blaring TV's in the background, and people sitting as close as possible to the mic and shouting. Nope nope no thank you.

Some models may actually be interested in seeing who they're talking to...who they're performing for. Maybe they'd like to finally be able to put a face to the screen name. For some of us, we enjoy the session more if we can see that what we're doing is turning you on (watching you stroke your hard dick). And some models might just be going through the motions of offering cam-to-cam because they feel that's what they "should" do, and they assume that's what you'd prefer? The only time I don't like cam to cam is when there's that horrible feedback noise (Then I'd just click the little button in his webcam screen to mute the sound, and I'd let him know I've muted it), or when all I see on cam is the guy's face up close staring at me (not even stroking his dick for me...just his big 'ole face up close...yikes, that's fucking weird for me). Lol.

Most of the models I've done privates with, have only asked after a couple of privates wit them if I'd turn cam on. I think it's because as some of the models have said, it's so they can see and know and if need to adjust things for both member and model's enjoyment. I'm usually really shy on cam, so I prefer to not have it on. But, there's been a couple of times a model has gotten me to turn it on without pressuring me. But, this is a long process in the making for me to feel comfortable.

Most models are really cool with not turning cam on if I've explained to them I'm too shy to do it.

I LOVE c2c when I'm doing a fetish show. I have had many utilize the c2c function to share new panties and outfits they've recently purchased, which is so hot to me and I love so much. I also have a few that actually do what I tell them to, in regards to fucking themselves and joi, and that is always intense and a ton of fun too. It is very helpful during cei shows and sph shows as well. The better sound feature also enhances if I make them beg for anything. Just yesterday I had a guy show me his self sucking skills. I also enjoy it when a guy is a straight up exhibitionist and wants me to see how they touch themselves. Pretty much everyone in my c2c shows has a dad bod, I find it super sexy. I'm on the thick side myself, never been comfy with my body in my personal life, but on cam I feel like a queen. Anyone who is comfortable enough with their body to go on camera and have an intimate moment is really sexy to me.

Of course I get a lot of "drive by" c2c shows where the members use the function to basically show themselves for a few seconds jerking, get a response from me, then bounce to the next room. But I guess that serves a purpose too and puts a couple bucks in my pocket.

I model on SM.

One, I actually do heavily prefer it if someone turns their cam on. I do femdom and it's a lot more interactive if I can see what they other person is doing. While there have been plenty of non c2c shows that have been excellent, the ones with c2c often usually have more depth. I can better gauge how receptive someone is to something, how obedient they actually are, etc. Some members don't communicate very much, but if I can see a positive reaction on cam, I know what to keep in mind for next time if they return. Plus some of the things I make members do is entertaining for me so c2c is an overall positive the vast majority of the time.

Two, so many guys on SM specifically want their cams to be watched, it's just second nature at this point to just ask up front. Willing to bet most models will ask for c2c for this alone, it's a courtesy to ask in most cases.

Three, it is good for business, but that's a tertiary aspect to it for me at least. SM has had some c2c issues in the past and my earnings would really tank merely because c2c was not working. In spite of doing femdom, I do genuinely want the other person to enjoy the shows I am giving them and it's a huge bummer when c2c isn't working because for many guys it's a huge enhancement when it comes to how much they enjoy shows. But yea, from a business perspective, c2c does have a huge amount of value, but based on my initial point, I would encourage it.

In spite of my preference for members turning on c2c, I can assure you that it's never a problem if someone doesn't want their cam on.

As a model, I usually let the guy choose if he wants to C2C or not. It's hotter when they are enthusaistic about showing themself off to me, and helps me enjoy the show more as well. Odd that models are asking for C2C when members don't explcitly ask for it....

I don't mind C2C but I'm not a big fan of it. However, I've noticed I feel more comfortable when member turns his cam on so I know exactly what he's doing during the show and I can see what works and what doesn't because waiting for his text reply may be very tiresome. Also, I naively assume my show is probably gonna stay private and isn't being recorded. I doubt people who turn their cams on, are the same people who record a private shows. Maybe I'm wrong.

Oh, bless your heart - yes yes yes! I starting visiting cam sites after my wife left me (for a younger guy) and I was in emotional trauma. If not for cam models I would probably have shut down my sexuality and physical self-esteem. As it was, they awoke my libido and made me feel good about my appearance. And that was due to C2C.

One woman in particular always asked for it. It didn't prolong the session - we did 15 minute Skype sessions for a set price. So, I don't know her motivation - maybe just to keep me coming back for more. She said she liked to watch me.

She stopped camming for a long time, but then came back briefly. I was pleased to get the chance to tell her how much she had helped me. She blushed all over.

But, to get back to the subject, most models I visit don't strongly request c2c, but they do usually ask in private if I want to. They don't make a big deal about it if I don't open it. When I do turn the cam on, I try to have good lighting and to be nicely dressed (to start).

I've personally never requested a guy turn his cam on but this thread has given me some food for thought! I do enjoy seeing cams for the most part and it can allow for a deeper connection, especially with SMs new c2c features which allows for a much clearer view. While it can be nice to see who I am having fun with, it is by no means expected on my part. I really think it depends on the model. I assume a lot of guys are shy and don't want to show their face!

Depending upon the hosting site, recordings of Privates are available to rewatch. MFC allows members to rewatch privates via their "Archive". I believe models are now able to do so as well. CB allows members to rewatch privates also, I believe.

Recordings of privates make them more valuable for users, and encourage user to do privates. Especially with less known, and new models.

I'm not sure about MFC but CB models have the right to choose if their pvts are gonna be recorded&saved in a buyer's collection or aren't. I personally turn this option on for additional $. And I was talking about users who record a pvt shows through special programs without model's acknowledge (when model has this option off&has no clue about being recorded at the moment) to upload them to pirate porn sites.

No doubts! But it's not the case when a pvt show is being recorded by user through sketchy programs when a model has this option off and assumes her/his private shows won't be recorded and posted on even more sketchy "freeporn" sites.
Of course, there always is a chance of being recorded even in a pvt show with disabled function of recording, and any cam-girl should be aware of that but when you as a model have this option disabled, you silently hope it'll stay a LIVE show.

Yep, I knew you were talking about someone uploading privates. I was simply stating that they are recorded on MFC by the site, and allowed to be viewed later. I'm one who does downloand and save said privates to a local drive only. But, in no manner do I share even a screenshot with anyone or place. I only do this so I can be offline while watching instead of models pm'ing me then getting pissed off when I don't respond.

I think that's a totally acceptable behavior on your part.

P.S. I can't help but wonder: where do you find these surreal models who PM you on their own and then get pissed off when you don't respond? :D I can't even imagine such a situation in my room. I would never bother any (a regular one or a new one) member with PMs. I think if member wants to chat, he'll text me first and (preferably, especially if a new one) pay for that :D I barely have the time to PM people who actually paid me for this opportunity, and my room is pretty small. Why on Earth do they behave this way? If I were a member, it'd become a solid reason for me to avoid such a weird models.

MFC is much more of a social site than CB is. So, there's friends lists that models can add members to. Members can also add models to friends list as well as a "bookmarked model" list (I've discussed this numerous times on how I use them and block people in other posts). A person doesn't have to be in a room to be seen if on a friend's list. Just logged into the site.

Many times, it's the models who message me first and most times it's just to say "Hi" since I've spent at least a fair amount of time in their room. I'm not saying it's every model, as some understand might be busy. But, some take it as being rude and ignoring them. Usually, if it's the case and I see the message, I'll send a response explaining to them I didn't see it and wasn't deliberately ignoring them.

It's pretty common. Members can move through 10+ models rooms a night sometimes and might be the only one that tipped that model. Some models do better than others but there are many where you might have been the only member in a week that gave any money or attention so they will go to extremes to get you back in their room. You don't know if it's them or their studio telling them to do it but it does happen more than you think if you're a member that likes to roam around.

Of course you also have models that feel they OWN members and feel other models are STEALING you when you go into other rooms.

A member can't tell the if a model is 'weird' or anything else unless you go into rooms and interact with them at least once.

Yep, pretty much this. I've had models get pissed at me because I'm not in their room right away. I had one model bitch me out for being in a TruePrivate with a different model.

I perfectly understand that MFC is much more of a social site than CB is. That's the reason I've been thinking about joining MFC lately. I love to communicate! But only when it's appropriate, i.e. when member COMES to my room and says "hi" first, at very least. Maybe it's me who's being weird about this part but I see no reason to PM a member if he isn't in my room. I get how MFC works and I'm aware of those opportunities to send a PMs when you aren't on cam (as a model)/when you aren't in a model's room (as a member).
I think it's enough to post a small notification about coming online on your social media (Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, etc) and people who are in the mood for this kind of stuff will join you. Otherwise, why even bother and be bothered?

Sometimes I send a message on my own to my favorite ones on Snapchat if I've got something to share.

Maybe I'm wrong and I apologize if so, but I highly doubt some member will join your room&tip you immediately if you send PMs to him with no reason.
Even if it's just a simple "hello". I find it unproductive, irritating and just a waste of time for both sides.
I prefer to let members miss me a little :D In all meanings.

I start realizing it might be as hard to find an adequate model as hard to find an adequate member nowadays.

Honestly, the most of similar situations were related to members' behavior, in my experience. (When member gets jealous when you're in a pvt show with another member or when member bothers you with useless messages).
But I had no idea models could behave so oddly and unreasonably cheeky towards members. I wonder if this strategy ever pays off.

Model or member, everyone's still human so everyone able to make the same human decisions good and bad. No side holds a moral authority in the cam industry everyone is capable of everything.

It probably does work enough or it wouldn't be done. Some people enjoy being smothered but it can be repulsive to others. It's a gambling strategy in either case. I can guarantee there are models that ASK for dick pics. You don't need to know WHY they want them but because that model exist allows for the logic that other models want them also. That's why concepts of etiquette don't ever hold up because for every model that say 'no' about something will be a model that will say 'yes'.
