During one of my first shows of camming, a member claimed to recognize me - said that I looked like I was from a certain city, then that I looked like someone their sister worked with, then shortly after wrote that their sister confirmed upon viewing my profile that I was absolutely her colleague. This was all in public chat and I took it in stride, laughed about the messages at first and then I blocked the user after they claimed that their sister knew me. I was afraid, if this person truly did recognize me, that they would reveal personal information in the public chat.

This all got me wondering whether this is a common troll/scam that asshole members use to shake models up? It's impossible to know now whether that person knew me IRL or not, but it did unsettle me a bit. I'd be curious to know if this is a common occurrence or not?

Elysia

P.S. My apologies if this is a duplicate thread! I couldn't find a related one, but I'm still getting the hang of the forum and it's possible I missed it.

Obviously it could be true but had it really been true he would have (I think) said something to prove it.
You can pretty much look at any model and have a good, rough guess as to where they are from, purely based on their facial features/structure, their surroundings etc.
Like I can pretty much identify/guess that someone is Romanian or Russian or American based on that. Then maybe by accent you can narrow it down even further to city. If he just said a big, obvious city or another well known one or that is common with models, then definitely don't worry.

I am unsure how common this is, but guys will try and do anything for any number of reasons, reasons you should just ignore as it's impossible and stupid to understand them.
In future the only other thing to maybe do to settle your curiosity is to send them a PM and ask them a few things specific that would confirm if they know for real or not...

It's not impossible, but usually who claims to know you are guys that want your attentuin and things for free. A red flag is the fact that che said that also his sister recognized you. LOL! So he would let you think that while he was fapping he called his sister to check if she knew you? Suuuuuure.
Just block users if they say they know you in real life.

ive had both... people pretending to know me...and didn't and ive had people say they know me... and really did.
In order to differentiate i ask them to reveal to me something unique about themselves

It happens a lot for me. I will get people who will say they know me in public. I always ban, no fucks. Troll, joke, for real, or a mistake in idendity. I don't give them time to explain themselves or to entertain the room. Not risking someone saying my real name in free chat. Nope.

Yes like Audri says.. it's pretty common. Guys just like to fuck with you. It's possible that it's true but way more likely it's just some troll. Just ban.

I have seen this a lot!
Mostly it's guys ( thinking somehow they are funny).
But truth is they are idiots!

The chance of someone that know you or know who you are can see u on cam will always be there, but it's a slim chance.

Block people talking like that immidatley!

If they reveal personal info, report the username to CB support.
They can ban that user or even block his ip!

I would think that if they said they knew you, and if they cared something about you, they might mention it privately instead of in the room. If they don't care, then that's a different story. I wouldn't hold a model in ill thought if she banned and left it at that.

The one person who's recognized me, mentioned it in either a private tip note or MFC mail, I don't recall which. But that's probably the best way to address it.

They like to try to get a rise out of you. Also lol who knows their siblings' coworkers? Who tf calls their siblings in to verify that, yep, that porn person they are watching is definitely their coworker? This is all kinds of out there, ya know? Clear signs of some tall boner tale.

Edit: Ban either way though because fuck that fuckery.

Random sidenote followed by a wild guess

Every person in the world supposedly has at least 7 lookalikes. Yup, 7 other carbon copies of yourself floating out there.

Perhaps that person thinks you were one of your doppel gangers. Once again, just guessing wildly

Although i do think it's more likely that someone is tryna fuck with you

Few of us, however, have the experience my dad did when he walked into a party to see himself already sitting on the couch. Dad on the couch waved, and Dad who just walked in decided that there's no point hanging around when he's already here and went home. :haha:

My sister and I also experienced the fun of seeing a dude in neighborhood we lived in, who was almost identical to our dad. Same height, weight, build, facial structure, facial hair, fashion sense, glasses, and absent hairline. Except our dad's white and this dude's black. My sister's first thought when she saw him was "who painted my dad brown?" I didn't completely believe her until I saw him a couple days later - yep, carbon copy of our dad except for the skin tone.

And apparently one of my dopplegangers is local and went to North High. I know this because people used to walk up to me at the mall with "you went to North, right?" Uh, no...... I went to bumfuck-nowhere high school, I've never set foot in North and don't even know where the hell it is aside from probably on the north side of town somewhere?

I also had a substitute teacher in middle school who was identical to my third grade teacher from another town, and she had a friend back in Georgia who's identical to me.

So, everytime someone on cam "recognizes" me, I dismiss it as "Oh, you must know one of my dopplegangers! I have so many of them, where does yours live? Nope, I've never been there, can't be me! Where would you see me? Only on your computer, I live on the Moon, silly!"

Thank you so so much for your thoughtful responses :h: :h: :h: I feel a lot better hearing that banning in that situation isn't the worst thing.

And hearing about your similar experiences is just... yikes. :( Thank goodness we have the banhammer for times of need!

The doppelganger tip is a good one!

There was an MFC model that looked exactly like Olivia Wilde. The resemblance was uncanny. For the life of me, i can't remember her MFC name.

Honestly, I've found that when members say "you look like my sisters friend" or something along those lines, they have a fantasty about doing things with that person and are trying to ask for a roleplay without openly asking for it. Usually if they say you look like so and so I'll counter with oh yeah? Do you think shes cute? And 95% of the time it goes into a roleplay request. The other ones might still try to press the issue to freak me out, then I just ban.

One time during a c2c, with a guy who told me I looked like his coworker (no way that I was, as I dont have a vanilla job) he whipped out his phone and showed me a professional picture of her. It totally DID resemble me, but I told him I didn't like looking at things on members phones so dont do that again, while in my head I was like "holy crap, hello doppleganger".

The other day I freaked a little. A dude pm'ed me and started by saying ''I think I know you.'' So I was like ''oh really'' and he was like ''yeah...I'm pretty sure I recognize you...'' and I was like ''mmh ok?'' and finally he said ''yeah...you're the woman I see every night in my dreams''

I was relieved, but at the same time I'm like....does he really think that's a clever joke to make in this context?! Seriously dude. And he didn't flat out say it in one shot, we went back and forth for a couple of lines. I know some models would have blocked the shit out of him right away! Just why you do this lol?!

As I told before, they're idiots that want models attention and think they're funny.

I've never had someone on a cam site claim they knew me IRL. However, I live in Wisconsin and I haven't met many members from my state since Wisconsin is fairly small. If I lived in a larger state like say, California or Texas, my experience might be different.

I'm open about camming with my family and friends, so I don't care if I get recognized. I'm sure at one point, someone I know in real life has seen me on cam and just was too shy to say anything. It's a small world. lol

I wouldn't have done that with a model I didn't know. But, I've said corny jokes like that to a couple of models I've come to know. They know it's all lighthearted, and in good fun
Perhaps he was thinking it in the same context as a pickup line in a bar? Innocent in nature, and not thinking about the context? While I do completely understand a model's concern for privacy and security, sometimes have to let some thing

I'd probably not recognize a model even if she was standing right next to me. I might have that "I think I know her" thought. But, wouldn't go much beyond that since I couldn't pick most of the top celebrities, entertainers and athletes out of a lineup. Even if I did meet them, I'd probably smile, say "Hi" to them and make a general reference without specifically calling out what they do. I'm always concerned about bothering someone, as I'm sure they get hit up a lot by fans and I don't want to be "yet another annoying person" to them (this is in reference to any entertainer/athlete/public personality).

Well, maybe some of these dudes that make bad jokes really don't mean to cause harm, but I don't think the solution to this is for the model to brush it off automatically. I mean, you said it, sex workers are concerned about their privacy and security. I guess some of them will be more paranoid than others, but in the end, I think it's better to NOT encourage this kind of behavior instead of suggesting to models to ''accept it's like that and that the dude didn't mean harm''.

In your case, if you know the model already and you make bad pick up lines, well that might be a different story. Here we're talking about guys who come to us and say weird or creepy stuff as an introduction speech. The other day I also had a dude saying ''Look, I'm watching you through the window.'' Like wtf?!?! He probably thought it was funny but that's just downright creepy. o_O

Also it's not my problem if a guy decides to act the same way he would in a bar. Those are totally different contexts IMO. But anyway. I know I might be appering a bit dramatic here, but I don't think it's ok to tell women to 'suck it up' when they voice a concern, especially in this kind of industry. Here we're not talking about bad harrassment stories but still, that's not the way to go.

While I do agree some of it's creepy, even in a bar setting, I think it is relevant to say that similar experiences may be encountered between camming and being at a bar. You have no control over if someone hits on you in a bar, nor what they say in a chat room (although, you could filter in room).

I'm not saying a model should suck it up. Rather, I'm saying that given the nature of the business, it is probably best to know that it's going to happen at some point in time. How you, or other models, decide to react upon it is entirely up to you. If you're uncomfortable with such phrases, perhaps you should take some time to filter particular phrases or specific words.
