In Portuguese we say "to sleep at the (implied: bus) stop"

I like that. How do you say it in Portuguese?

It is so interesting to run into Portuguese as someone who knows Spanish but isn't quite fluent. For a long time I would be like, "Did I suddenly just get very bad at Spanish?" until I realize I'm listening to Portuguese. 😆 But it's cool that there's enough overlap that sometimes I can get the gist of it anyway.

I can understand if people talk slowly but can't talk back. But if it's two natives talking, forget about it, especially because each country has a specific accent and the words change a lot.

Oh and we say "Dormir no ponto"
Dormir means to sleep and can be conjugated to when the messing up was made lol. Ponto means stop (bus stop).

Today I learned that I've been getting crappy quality from Netflix because they cap video resolution on most browsers..

AAAAA Today I learned that the singer that sang along with the band(duo) Zero 7 in one of my favorite albums ever is Sia, that Sia from Chandelier! I had no idea who she was when it was released (2006). That's so cool!!! I love that album so dearly and didn't know that I was listening to the same person all along.

This is the album in case anyone wants to listen:

Today I learned that weed was actually medicinal 1st, then got banned because indigenous people in Mexico used to make a tiny living from it in the form of salves, tea, and ointments, and only then was smoked. The white invaders fucked them over and over, brought weed in from the old world, ruined the other crops and plantation, and then outlawed their livelihood, only to come up centuries later with CBD that requires a pharmaceutical license.

Weed was illegal in the United States because DuPont (yes THAT DuPont) invented nylon for ropes and wanged to push out hemp growers. Evem though hemp is more durable and easier to produce/cultivate. He and the company lobbied the government until they got what they wanted.

That's on the US side of the border, Porfirio Diaz didn't want anything that may help indigenous people make a living to be legal.

Have you ever read the book 1491? It's a deep dive into all of the beautiful things Columbus and his idiot friends ruined in Central America. It can be tedious sometimes but it's quite informative.

My comment about DuPont was just an anecdote that it went that way on both sides of the border for similar reasons. One of our founding fathers was a hemp farmer and bootlegger.

I should read it. I’m just wrapping up this book. I’m a narco-journalism freak, and this guy’s pretty good: https://www.publishersweekly.com/9781324006558

Today I learned why my marketing knowledge is still relevant in both B2B and porn. Affiliates in adult and sales people in tech B2B always focus on conversions. I on the other hand, insist on a yearly budget for just branding. Not traffic, no hard offers, just good old fashioned branding-reach and frequency.

Today I learned that in most situations/places in the US it is completely legal to drive naked. Legally somehow, your car is considered to be the covering you need in public.

I wonder if I could wear like a cardboard box with windows cut into it? LOL.

Wow, it is true! I had to look it up to believe it. Which lead me to learn that being topless is not illegal for women in my state. Which explains why I wasn't immediately arrested for being topless on my last fishing trip! Neat!

TIL that blue bottle jellyfish are not one animal, but more like a colony of different organisms coexisting and operating together. I also learned that Ocean sunfish are completely unbothered by blue bottle venom and eat them as one of their main sources of food. ( Their thick skin protects them.)
Sunfish also have the thickest skin of all animals. 🤯And they are the biggest bony fish in the ocean.

Marine life is so cool!

Sharks are not "bony fish", they belong to the class of "Chondrichthyes" or cartilaginous fish!

The Great White is amazing though, i love sharks!

(Also i have to correct myself, the sunfish is the heaviest bony fish, not the biggest. The heaviest cartilaginous fish would be the whale shark according to the guinessworldrecords)

I had a very close call with a shark while diving on the Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast almost 20 years ago.
While it was scary thinking about it afterwards, at the time I just remember feeling fascinated at seeing such an amazing creature. No time to think about the danger. If it had wanted to attack me, not a single thing I could've done to avoid it. But it just seemed as interested as I was.
Lucky my buddy persuaded me it was a good idea to get back to the dive boat!

Today I encountered (and attempted to learn) arguably the most challenging tongue-twister in the English language:
"The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick"
And previously I'd get all hung up on good ol' Peter Piper picking his pepper :yikes:

Well..... today I learned that the human tongue could be used as an alternative form of biometric ID to the fingerprint, iris scan, voice recognition etc.
An image or imprint of a tongue is unique to the owner.
So be aware that leaving your tongue print on something (or someone!) could potentially lead to forensic matching!
