i usually love lisa lins documentry pieces. ill give it a watch later, but im sure ill have face in palm quite often. 
Thanks for sharing Felicity. I heard a interview with her about this doc but at the time it was not online.
Mansicle and I just got done watching it. It seems to highlight more on the negatives than the positives and even throws in couple with addictive behavior as a point. I think it was alright....I enjoyed the segment on the older woman more than any other. I did like the young couple's story of going from nothing to something as that is along the lines of what I was facing and that IS with college on both sides and a full degree.

I just watched this and thought it was OK. It could have been a little less judgemental but that is what I kinda expected before watching it! I would have also liked to have seen a story on the side that I see....From the members perspective. Thanks for sharing this Felicity it was an interesting watch
I agree Felicity! I was definitely happy with the pride there. It gives me a headache to see more negativity without any light for the positive side. I just hope I am doing as well as Miss thing is doing after 50! Woo! Thanks for sharing!

Shows like this always seem to try to put a negative spin on stuff...like Sasha Grey on the Tyra Banks show. No matter how much Sasha came across as an intelligent, satisfied and in-control young woman, Tyra had to portray her as a deeply troubled teen who was denying some dark secret and manipulated by sleazy old men.
God forbid an adult woman actually has the ability to choose her own path.

yeah focussed a lot on the negatives as somehow inevitable. The couple with the larger woman, who were going through so much trauma... were not typical necessarily. I felt like they were saying "this is the inevitable end to the story" i wish they would haveshown someone who'd done it for years and felt positively about it!
I loved Sierra. What a brave thing to do.
I was almost literally run out of town in a southern town like she lives in. I was in that 'country club' lifestyle. I outed myself by accident and stupidity. I love that she did it on her own terms.
As for her grandkids.. yeah. I hear what you're saying. I hate how taboo this industry is. I hate how I know if i told my family it would hurt them. *sigh*

I just watched the episode from Tyra and wow! I thought Tyra was rather judgemental especially considering that fact that she has been known to take her clothes off on camera for a few $$$ as well.....this is like the pot calling the kettle black.

Haha yeah I've seen that...I like how they dressed her in the show's clothes because she looked "too old" and then Tyra immediately commented how young she looks (in the clothes and makeup they made her wear lol), and then proceeded to patronise her for the rest of the segment.
I remember seeing Sasha Grey on the show! She's fab. I looked to her when I first started out my dirty talking, lol. I liked Tyra until around the point that I saw that particular clip. I didn't watch her a whole lot, just snippets. I was disappointed

I wish one of these segments about camgirls would show interviews with solo camgirls who don't do "amateur porn" on the side, or have actual intercourse on cam, so that webcamming could be seen in a different light. For anyone being introduced to camming via that video, they're going to automatically have a bad outlook on it and assume that all cam girls do "amateur porn". There are a TON of girls who never interact with another person, physically, during their work. I assume under their standards, since I've had a girl on cam with me and we've done sexual things to each other on MFC they'd call me an amateur porn girl too. I don't necessarily agree with or like that. I don't have a director, or a studio, deciding what acts I do on cam at any given point, and think that is the difference between calling something "porn" and simply being a cam girl.
I wonder when the day and age will come where media will stop frowning on any job related to sex. Until then, these segments will always try to play up the "cons" of the job instead of all the benefits. And it will keep lending to the bad stigma, which leads us cam girls to not tell our friends and family what we do for a living and feeling like we have something to hide.

One of the things that really stood out to me on the Tyra show was Sasha's agent. Talk about somebody that epitomizes a sleezeball... he makes Ron Jeremy look good.

As for the OP documentary as well as the bullshit from Tyra .... of course its slanted. The world is and always will be basically puritanical when it comes to anything "sexual for hire".

Lisa Ling's documentary (on the Oprah Winfrey Network of all places) is how I found out about the world of cam modeling. It opened my eyes to a world I did not know existed! How I did not know about it before is strange I know, but nonetheless I did not.
Watching Lisa whisper in the hallway while Sierra was online was hysterical I must say! Overall, I did think the documentary (at times) was somewhat judgmental and definitely portrayed a negative, skewed view of the industry. The couple that modeled at night to support themselves were great and I am so glad they were not apologetic!
I wanted the show to be longer as I wanted to know more! I must say I was fascinated. My voyeuristic curiosity was peaked and my naughty side wanted to play on cam! Knowing that the media spins adult industry related jobs as taboo to keep up ratings with the main stream (my opinion), I decided to do some research of my own and found livejasmin (didn't find MFC until someone told me about it later) and the rest is recent history.
This documentary is the reason I am here on AFC and MFC as a new camgirl. Going a little off topic, I want to say the welcome of the models I have "met" has been warm and this forum - priceless. I love the opinions of cam girls & members, the guidance and the overall support of this community. I am so glad to be a part of it!
