Hi all,

I am completely new to camming, but I'm planning on making this my full time job. Due to health issues, I have never been able to work a "conventional" job, and so have been living off benefits all my adult life. I've taken thousands of nude pictures, (I'm the girl in my avatar), and hundreds of videos and so I actually regret I didn't start doing this a heck of a lot earlier.

Unfortunately my ex did not approve, and I respected his wishes and didn't start on it, and so just forgot the idea for years. However my current partner (whose mother works in adult entertainment herself) is extremely supportive of my decision and encouraged me to stand up for myself and what I want to do. I'm happy to progress with this, and have taken into account the whole "The internets NEVER forgets!!" years ago when I started with the pics and videos.

I have always been an exhibitionist, and made the most of my body.
I have nifty webcam (Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD), with crisp sound, great lighting, a nice bedroom layout, and a nice array of outfits to start out with.

I feel camming is something I would be good at, and so have put a lot of hope into making this work as my full-time job.

I currently get £160 a fortnight, but I'm SO scared I will come off my benefits only to make less as a webcam girl.
The ONLY fear I have is that I won't make as much as this.

I'm keen on starting with Streamate. Would anyone advise I start there as opposed to MFC? Or the other way around?
I've been checking out Streamate and feel more accustomed to how it works over there than MFC, but if anyone thinks I should start out on MFC, give me some insight and I'll be grateful. I do plan on joining a few cam sites just to broaden things out, so I'm sure I'll also end up on there at some point also.

I plan on working at the very least 2 - 4 hours a day to begin with, and slowly upping it as I become adjusted to it.

But yes. £160 a fortnight is my goal. Would this be manageable? Should I up my hours? Start off somewhere else?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't wait to get access to the models only forum, though the reason I've not applied there yet is the same reason I haven't started camming yet: ID. And this money fear.

Thanks for any and all input! :-D x

Congrats on getting to start!! You're going to love it! Streamate and MFC are 2 totally different worlds. Definitely the best 2 sites I've come across. You should just try and see which one works best for you. MFC has a community feel to it and personality means a lot, where as on SM it's a wham bam thank you ma'am sort of thing. Either way you are going to want to devote a good bit of time in the beginning to acquire regulars.

There's tons more info in the models only.. but there's a little bit :-D

Wow! Congrats!
I agree with the lady above, two totally different places! MFC is more community based and a little freer, imho, but streamate is good if you need money fast. I would definitely never recommend LiveJasmin.

Can't wait to see you get your model status approved! LOTS of amazing information there. I'm only about 2 years into camming and I have learned so much. Also the ladies are sexy and helpful and great for the go-to. I have recommended this site to both members and models alike, that is how much I LOVE this place.

Ahhhh!! Amberfoxxx & Rosemary - your responses literally have me buzzing with anticipation! XD

I can't wait to get my ID schtik sorted so I can get in the models bit - since I found this place I've been almost as excited to get into the models forum here as I am to begin camming! I've been looking for a good forum for cam models for about 2 weeks, but kept stumbling across blogs which side-tracked me. I love reading cam blogs; they've been a great source of information to me so far, but this place is like finding a goldmine.

I'm going to spend a lot of time on MFC tonight to check it all out. From what I've seen, they give you SO much freedom in profile decorating which I really love. I really dislike the character limit they put on SM. :/
I need to compare the moneys also.

Thank you both! :-D x

I think once you get access to the models only section you should have more than enough input from previous threads in there about Streamate, MFC & a slew of other sites to see which one you'd prefer. :) And welcome to the forums.

A fornight is like two weeks, correct?

Whichever you go on, since you have the experience and the stuff, you should be able to make at least that in two weeks. With streamate, I would be highly surprised if you don't make that in less time!

Since you're UK, you might also want to check out adultwork.com . It's gotten high reviews by the uk girls, and it's based in the UK. They have the option for selling just about anything you want along with the camming, so guys who find you camming can also check out videos, pic sets, audio tracks, and written erotica, if you have them available. I can't personally recommend it, as I don't have much content on there yet, but I've heard good things from the ladies on here. Now if only I could find a cheap plan that lets me text with the UK...

Your picture is adorable, the posts i have seen here from you reflect an intelligent young woman - there seems to be nothing in the way to be successful (maybe you have a voice like donald duck, but on mfc there are enough models successful that talk nothing at all ;-) )
If you ever go to mfc (and i hope you do) take your time to watch the existing models and learn from it - especially models around the 1000 camscore - i think the rules are different if you log in and have 200 visitors in your room at once like the top models.
Try to determine what works and what work not before you start camming, else you are in danger to suddenly find yourself in the 500 camscore level and it is much harder to come back from there.
Wish you a successful start and hope you make a lot of money and have a lot of fun!

:text-welcomewave: Hi and good luck in your new endeavor...

I mostly hang in MFC simply BC of the community. I do know many girls that work both. As a 'tipper' and 'cam jon', I wouldn't recommend working them both at the same time BC I know many members that wont sit and wait for you to return from another site private. However, both of my 2 closest girls work both sites daily. Depending on the room and the mood, if it dies or as it seems lately, the guys sleep and dont talk or tip, they will get out of MFC and go to SM for awhile. Later they come back to MFC to check the pulse etc etc.... Also, you will find different hours are better for the different sites. See you soon !! :-D

If you look half as good on cam as you do in your avatar pic, you won't be the only one buzzing with antici...PATION.

One thing you might try to warm up is to find a trusted friend who has some experience with cams and try out your cam with Skype in your room at the time of day you plan on working. Move around in your space and see what kind of lighting works best. You will look likely better on Skype than on MFC which still broadcasts at 320x240, but at least this will give you an idea. Check your sound at the same time. Try to do this for as long as you can so that you will get a feel for how long you can go without breaks, what positions are comfortable, etc.

It's worth doing this before you start on MFC as you will get a "New Model" tag for your first few hours and you would to well to put your best foot forward during that period. You will naturally be nervous, but try to be cheerful, and understand that you must not take negative comments or vulgarity as a personal insult.

Building loyalty is vital. You are a business. To this end, it is important to offer a consistent "product". You've modeled, so there's no need to get into the visual aspect, but there are some things that are specific to camming.

Do try to be consistent with your cam times, whatever they may be. You don't absolutely need to post your times, but it is important that your members feel relatively confident that if they log in at their usual times, you will be online when they expect you do be. Of course, you will not be able to maintain that 100% of the time, but do keep it in mind. Twitter can help you alert members if you will be online or away for holidays, and let them know when they may expect your return.

You might want to register on Twitter and Facebook (even if you don't use it) with your planned model name before you even start on MFC so that some jackass does not hijack it and pretend to be you. If Myname is taken, then try MynameMFC. This will save you a lot of grief in the long run.

A lot of guys are partly attracted to a room by the music. It helps set the mood, and be one of the reasons members will wish to return. Make sure it's music you enjoy yourself, and that lifts your mood, as long as it's not the sort of thing that is sure to turn guys off, like Justin Bieber.

Take care of yourself! Get the rest you need. Make sure that you are physically comfortable in your camming area. Be on the lookout for back strain from being seated awkwardly. You can handle most uncomfortable positions for a short periods, but in general you should try to be relaxed. If you are comfortable, your members will be comfortable with you, as well.

And last and most importantly: remember that you are amazing, and that if anyone thinks otherwise, that's their problem and not yours.

So much good advice already. This from sevrin was so good, I had to cut & past & repeat it.

And last and most importantly: remember that you are amazing, and that if anyone thinks otherwise, that's their problem and not yours.

Just two bits to add.

first, from my own experience, I have found that many models using music tend to have it too loud relative to their voice. I think they're mostly unaware of this, sense the music source (the computer or speakers near the computer) are often much closer to the mic than the model may be. This may not bother some members, but personally I really enjoy getting to know the models, and if I have to struggle to hear what they're saying because the music is too loud, I'll move on.

If there is any question, then it might be best to get feed back from the members in your room. You might be a little embarrassed to ask, or think that this will demonstrate the fact that your new to this. Well you are new to this, and you don't need to shrink from that. Most members are apt to feel flattered when they are asked for their input.

Second, what ever time you decided to allot to this job, part of that time should be set aside for off cam follow ups and messaging. I don't think it needs to be much, but if you totally neglect to do any follow up, your cheating yourself out of a valuable tool. I know many models don't bother with this and do just fine, but if you really hope to maximize your earnings, it's a must.

At first almost 100% of your earnings will be from different individual first time tippers. Depending on their state of mind, and the relative closeness of their most recent pay-day, these tippers can be very sweet.

It is the regulars that you develop, that will bring in the consistent earnings though. To this end, your off cam follow up time is invaluable. A quick run threw of tippers at the end of an on cam session, lets you send some sort of thanks, for their patronage. This can be a post to their profile wall, a brief thank you via MFC-Mail, or even an offline PM, that they'll receive the next time they log on.

Any of the three of these, not only serves the obvious effect of endearing the member with your thoughtfulness, but it also provides one more semi permanent record of your name. If the member has neglected to add you to his friends list, and has visited multiple chat rooms the night before, a post to his profile wall, or a MFC-mail, is going to provided him with, a much less complicated way back to your room, than would searching the archives.

Another off cam tool that is some times overlooked, are news feeds. News feeds are handy to notify members of a change in scheduled start time, special events in your room, or even an interesting topic you have decided on. News feeds, though not individually personal, do invoke some feeling of belonging or community.

One final note on off cam follow up; I now am a regular to a models room because she remembered something I had said in her chat, and sent me a MFC-Mail thanking me. I had no tokens at the time, and had not tipped in her room before. This may seem like an extreme effort that would rarely pan out, but it can, I am proof of that.

In general, I think MFC attracts, and retains, members who are here as much for the sense of community and camaraderie, as for any other reason. Sure there are plenty here who are driven more by perving than anything, or believe that anyway. It has been observation though, that most of the daily members, those who spend the most money, are here for friendship & love. Weather one can truly find either of those things here may be debatable. But who can define what is, or is not, true friendship or love?

If you nurture these emotions in your room, and invoke them with thoughtful follow ups, you will not only do OK, but very well indeed.

I often read what I have written, and wonder, does anyone give a sheit?
I don't know, but if you can find any part of the above useful, then it is to that measure, more than most I write.

Welcome to the blog, if not ultimately MFC. I am sure you will find wherever you cam financial reward, may you also find passion in your work.

Nurture and propagate kindness and expose and refuse to tolerate that which is not kind.

Indeed the same thing I have seen in many rooms. Tonight when Csysy/Mary was on, the love for her was overflowing and is really something you wouldn't think you'd find on a 'porn site'. The tips were rolling in and she was not doing anything but sitting there smiling and conversing with her admirers. Looking forward to seeing you ... :-D

Welcome and good luck with your new found career. You have definitely come to the right place for help as the people here (models and members alike) are the friendliest and most helpful I have ever come across.

Thanks! This is definitely one of the most helpful and friendly forums I've come across.

A fortnight is two weeks, yes. :) I'm thrilled that I should be able to make at least that (I'm more than willing to put a tonload of work into this), though a recent fear of mine has been conversion rates, Payoneer and payment fees... along with working out what "gold" is, and what the going "cam currency" means on MFC and SM  I kind of feel like I'm overloading myself with info at the moment, but I'm getting on top of it.

I'm setting my mind to Streamate at the moment as the first "broadcast" I will have, because I feel confident in how it works, but I have opened an MFC account also and will open an AdultWork one as well. I feel like it's a matter of me adjusting myself not only to the different terms, currencies, quirks, etc, but how the communities work.

Thank you LadyLuna! :h:

Thanks Traditio! Haha, you can catch a YouTube video of me and my voice here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5LhnBLNc1w The set-up and audio are both crappy (I made it on my old webcam, built into my laptop); but I needed to prove my identity to the Literotica folks, so the point of the video was basically just to make a video of me saying "Whisperly" :p
I've been checking out models for hours every day haha! XD It's very, very strange: I feel like I've grown oddly attached to some of them. I really wish I could send some of them a pm just saying I admire what they're doing, and they're like SM role models to me! :-D I can't message anyone on SM yet though. :(

Ahh when I say working both, I definitely wouldn't be doing both simultaneously, but allocate certain days as "MFC days", and other days as "Streamate days", etc. I don't like the idea of my attention being diverted to two places at once; I really want to be able to give as much attention as possible to the guys in my one room. :)

Thank you! :D

Sevrin -

Thank you sincerely. I truly appreciate the time you put into this. :romance-wub:
Everything noted.

camstory -

I must say... the astounding beauty of Minchin made it extremely hard for me to pay attention to the content of your message at first. XD I'd never seen that clip of him before, but I'm a total fangirl of Tim. Thank you! :-D
I think I'll enjoy asking the guys in my room questions about what they like to see or hear. I hadn't before thought about offcam followups so I am very glad you brought that to me! Thank you dearly for your message - I indeed do give a sheit! ;D

SoTxBob -

That's pretty adorable really! I will check her out! Maybe there's some stuff I could learn from her. :-D

Thank you again, every one!

Wish you fun! (and what did you do on literotica?)
