so... i have recently ran into a problem when i purchasing tokens with credit card. my cc co. will freeze my acct. after purchasing tokens. the next time i attempt to use card it is declined and 30 seconds later i receive a call from cc co.. soon as i verify transactions all is good till i purchase tokens again. the whole process repeats.

this has happened enough times that i am afraid to purchase anymore tokens. so was wondering what other people use for this.

thanks for any info...

Look at the number on the back of your card. Call them. Tell them to put a note in your file to stop doing that or unflag the vendor or something.

or you can purchase a pre-paid cc from Walmart or Walgreens or something like that.

He might end up with the same problem with a prepaid card (or any other type of card). He needs to call the card issuer (a real person, not the automated system) and tell them that the MFC charges are OK. That's what I did with my credit card after it was frozen when I first bought tokens with it. Subsequently, there was no problem. They're just trying to prevent fraudulent activity (i.e., charges on a stolen card, or not authorized by the card owner).

make sure you tell them the payment billing company name when you call. its not going to say MFC unless they have changed something. It will say netbilling, epoch or ccbill when the CC company kicks it. It might say something different on your monthly statement, but the billing company is what makes the initial transaction. The gal at my bank said one of those is flagged for everyone, [not just mfc] because of a lot of fraudulent activity.

And we wonder why a bunch of the members won't buy tokens anymore. Seems like MFC would get enough complaints to just delete whichever processor is dumb. Oh well. :woops:

The problem is that the number of payment processors that accept adult content is quite small; if MFC (and others) started blacklisting them based on complaints from users, soon they would have no way to sell tokens.

And the fraud problem is why there arent a lot of payment processors that accept adult content: it's not only traditional fraud (stolen credit cards and such), but also people buying porn and later regretting it (or getting caught by parents/significant other) and reverting the transaction while claiming the credit card was stolen/cloned/etc.

i was hoping a conversation about this would take place. i mean... i knew why it was happening just didn't know best way to deal with it. and certainly i am not first or only one this has happened to.

the wal mart card was handy in place of carrying cash too, i used it a bunch. i will prolly get another one. if there are other options aside from wal mart i would be open to that as well. if same thing happens with that card i would call em to straighten it out. i like the idea of using those cards cuz if it gets hacked they can only get what i have loaded onto it. which is usually not very much.

I've also encountered this problem when purchasing mainstream goods or services (i.e. not adult/porn). For example, I bought some software from a German developer, and it got flagged. I can't remember which payment processor his site used, but it wasn't the usual suspects--CCbill, Netbill, etc. I think the card issuers also look at purchase patterns, so that a purchase from a legitimate vendor might be flagged if it's sufficiently "different" from one's usual pattern.

I've learned to watch for phone calls from the issuer (both automated and personal) warning of questionable transactions, and respond right away. A couple of times, that card has been declined at the point of purchase, and it was because I overlooked or forgot about the call.

It's unfortunate that using a credit card is such a hassle, but I'm glad the protections are in place.

Definitely patterns. They know what stores/sites you shop routinely and where they physically are. If you buy from places within 50 to 100 miles of your home you're less likely to get flagged. But take a trip, pay for gas with cash a couple times, then use your card when you're 800 miles away. Better chance to get flagged.

Also big ticket items out of the blue. If you normally use the card for groceries and small stuff only, It might get denied if you use it to buy $4000 worth of furniture all at once. You can preempt the flag though. Call them up ahead of time and tell your card company you're going to do that and they'll put an authorization note on your file to not flag it that day for the general price range you set. Even if it's at the store minutes before you purchase. I've done that in the past.

If you call the issuer before you make purchases they may have reason to question, you won't have problem. Like if you've never been outside the country, you might want to call your CC company to let them know you'll be traveling, so you won't have unpleasant and embarrassing surprises when you need to pay for something. Same thing with using adult-friendly payment processors.

I think another reason why there aren't too many payment processors who accept adult content, also has to do with the higher taxes they have to pay just for accepting "adult content" as well.

I got one of the cash cards from Western Union. Initially it was just for internet purchases for use with out of country vendors. I've used it a bunch now with token purchases and not had any problems at all. WU also gives you other lil perks as well that the grocery store cards don't. If you have any friends you send cash to,[ lets say in Romania for birthdays or Christmas], it makes it really easy to do a transfer from home. :text-merryxmas: :eek:ccasion-snowman:

Great idea. Visa loves to freeze my card when I use WU without calling to OK it first :woops:

can you tell me a lil more about this card, like what are the fees?

for the walmart card it was $3 to activate and $3 every time you load funds. i can't remember if there were any transaction fees.

go to their website and look.. just search western union.
I've used WU for many years to send cash around the world. that security is why I use them now.
they charge a fee to load it but that varies on the amount. you can also load from home directly from your bank account.
normal $$ transfer fees apply if you send cash to someone.
ive never had a fee other than that for the purchasing cc functions.
