A model should charge what she thinks will make her the most money. If she's charging so much that nobody is buying her video, then she's charging too much because she isn't making any money on it.

However, if plenty of people are buying her video and it's just too expensive in YOUR opinion, I would say that's your issue.

This is such a chicken and the egg scenario. Is it worth this much because it just is, or is it worth this much because consumers will pay it? You may think it's overpriced but others may not. Any product will ever exist at it's price and thus be worth that price because there is a market for it. Forever.

Do I think Gucci and LV bags are overpriced? Absolutely. But I'm just one consumer. I don't have a fetish for name brands nor do I make enough money to purchase them. Plenty of people do though. More power to them. I don't think me lacking in either area is reason enough for me to bash on others for spending their money there.

So Yes, only because the particular product doesn't appeal to me so much, as well as me being a pleb, but also no because if I am part of that target audience that fits the bill, I'd buy it.

Nope. If it's out of your price range, move along.

The reason why I brought this up is because I just saw a model charging $350 for all of her B\G videos, while at same time charging far less for her solo videos. I wasn't interested in buying them. I was just taken back by the prices.

Many models charge more for b/g videos. There is an entire extra person (that may be getting a cut of the revenue as well) and some girls don't do that type of content so it makes it more valuable.

well it's two people.. of course it's going to be more than solo. When I sold bg vids, they were higher than my solo. Maybe her partner is given a cut of those sales? Or maybe she has to make her money back because she paid him for his performance. Maybe her bg vids are more popular, and she is charging more to earn more.

It's really nothing. Anyone can charge whatever they want for their content. You may not pay those rates, but someone else does.

You know we have to pay our dudes to make video's right? there considered a performer so $20 per min is industry standard for 2 people. I dont think this is an unfair price point.

I shoot w/ a $700 light kit and an almost $2k camera my production quality is really high (I do about 8-10 customs a month) so most of us have this type of equipment as well. Your'e also not factoring editing/rendering/etc which takes me days. I need to be paid for that but nobody ever thinks of this stuff.

You made a new thread because of that? A lot of models offer a “Get them all for X dollars” video deal, which is probably what she’s doing. It would actually save you money than if you had bought the individual videos at regular price. I mean, have you SEEN the amounts of videos that a lot of cam models have in their collection? Lots.

It’s crazy to me how even when models offer you guys deals, you still complain. Lol.

The b\g videos weren't on sale. But I'm not into b\g videos anyway. I'm willing to pay up to $20 for a video. And the reason why I put on that limit Is because I'm strict with my spending.

I didn't know that the equipment used for making clips was so pricey.
I assumed that MV split the payout for each performer in the B/G vids. I'm changing my vote.

if you aren't into bg content, why are you complaining about it? shouldn't those high rates be irrelevant to you since you don't enjoy it. you already have a bias towards that content, so of course you wouldn't see the value in it.

most of us understand you and most customers are on a budget. there are models who are perfectly fine giving a discounted rate, while others who will charge an arm and leg for basic shit. shop where you can afford.

but yeah, shit costs money to produce porn.

"Too much" is subjective. If a model thinks their videos are worth $10, $100, or $1000, then that's valid. From a business perspective though, I do think it's possible for a model/studio to price their content at a price that isn't conducive to high sales.

You also have to take into account how long it took to shoot the clip. Did they have a videographer to pay? Or did they spend forever trying to get all the shots themselves?

Then how much time was spent editing? More than one person means more room for error and more editing.

of course it is; camera's and lights are not cheap (especially great quality stuff) MV also takes a cut where IWC we get 100 percent so the girl may be up charging so she gets what she wants money wise.

Models can charge whatever they want. Am I going lie and say I haven’t raised a brow at some prices I’ve seen models list certain videos at? No. But it’s up to them, if there’s people that will pay those prices, more power to them.

I don't think we should be trying to justify pricing with background costs or personal reasons. Porn, especially independent porn, is an industry in which capitalism should shamelessly exist. We're not selling anything necessary. So, if a performer can get a wild amount of money, they should do so.

Everything ain’t about you, man.

Guys ... I really think we need to remember guy is just curious and trying to understand the process. He took the information he was given about how performers are paid and changed his vote.

To answer the main question - while I will absolutely agree models can and should charge whatever they want .. I call a video overpriced when it's not making you enough profit. That could be pricing it lower or higher.. (sell 1 vid to 10 people for $10 or sell 1 vid to 1 person for $100) but if it's not making you any money it's either overpriced, badly marketed or it's not something people want to buy at all.

"Too much" is subjective. However, there are some guys who have totally unreasonable expectations regarding the prices of models' vids. http://www.pornusers.com/forum/forum_thread.html?threadid=852

if you NEED to make money and are expecting to sell lots of videos, then yes i think it's possible to charge too much because you won't make anything.

but i'm sure the girls with high prices don't need to sell anything because they have enough income from other places. so if a whale comes along and drops thousands on their videos then awesome. if no one wants to buy them, who cares. there's no such thing as too much in that case.

Oh man, according to that page, the short clips I sell are vastly overpriced and "not worth it".

I bought a 12 min clip that looked like something I would like that a don't see much of, a eurobabe bj party, for $6- expensive, but I was ok with it.
12 min clip and $6 was expensive?

That's the glory of it though. I offer my clips at a price I am comfortable with, and those who buy my stuff because I AM IN IT vs. it just being "porn" feel it's of that value. Other people who just view cam girls' clips as "porn" should probably stick to the $4 porn dvds on sale at the local titty shop.

It is important to remember that models make 60% of it, maybe, and that is before taxes. Which we do ourselves. No helpful auto-taxing on our paychecks. Throw in the amount of time it takes to make a clip. Hair, clothes, make up, positioning. Oh, your webcam shorted and now the sound is gone? Time to re-film it! Hair, clothes, make up, positioning, all over again. Editing comes next. That can be another fresh hell. Then uploading to the site (I have shitty internet and it takes me about three hours for one clip. I'd love to be able to get an upgrade, but that is expensive. Speaking of upgrades, webcams are not cheap! Neither is make up! Or lingerie, or computers, or anything that we do in our job to provide nicer looking content. Which I mean, in my experience, all that comes AFTER I can pay for my food and bills. But then people tell me I would make more money if I could pay for that fancy new camera... Catch 22! Annywayys.)

Oh, and if you film with someone else they need to be paid too, right?

So no, I don't think a model can charge too much for a clip.

There's no way to do this. A model creates her account, uploads the content, and gets paid. There's no way to split the payments on-site, even if both people appearing have their own accounts. It's that way on all clip & cam sites.

Yeah. I can't believe that he said that.

Yep, there was another thread where rquipment and time spent doing things off-cam was brought up. It's pretty sad that people generally don't take those things into consideration.

As for the extra performer, it isn't only associated with b/g vids either. When there's g/g vids/pics, those should be more as well. Especially if the performers are more well-known the prices should be higher and generally not on discount prices. Though, I have seen some models do "specials" when it's older material. Or, rarely as a pre-order price.

Exactly, as I see it for models. Some get a good following, and people will buy them just because it's someone they like. For myself, I rarely purchase content, even if it's a model I like. It needs to be something I really like, or something to draw me to it that makes me want it such as very artfully done. Otherwise, it's just going to sit on my drive and take up space. I'd rather just tip her the amount and not get it. Funny thing, even if I tip models the same amount with a "not for video" tip note or answer of "no it's just a tip" if asked. They still send me it. I get they're doing a CYA thing, or being nice and letting me make the choice on keeping it. But, if it's a model I'm a regular in, and I say it's just a tip I'd think they'd understand that it's just a tip...
