The result, people can't just have conversations and agree to this agree or come to some sort of understanding.

I used to have to get a ride from my dad to go to school and he would let me drive. He always got into politics (Rush Limbaugh's voice was at the height of his career) or I would make a mistake and correct him on something racist he said and we would argue ignorant political viewpoints about everything from Clinton to color of skin half of the time in the car. It was bad enough that he would have to tell me to slow down because I was for some reason breaking speed laws (looking back I might have wanted to get to the destination faster).

We never came to any understanding about anything. But then again I never grew up in the 40's to 60's and experienced East Saint Louis as a kid or the Depression. His heroes were the WWII vets. He never grew up in a suburbs in the 70's and 80's with ranch style houses surrounded by people who learned life thru the tv sitcoms. We kind of had Vietnam as a thing we were trying to figure out still (but not so much because we weren't the heroes there in public opinion). Just a huge cultural difference.

MikeTO, are you a Tommy Sotomayor fan? I ask because he is a black guy who has a pretty large following on Youtube who preaches exactly what you just said. I'm not a huge fan of his, it takes awhile to get to the subtext of all his inflammatory videos but there is some substance underneath all his anti-ghetto black woman videos! It seems like he is just bullying sometimes but there is a method to his madness.

And his minions - in the comments section - were just as bad with people who dared to share a different opinion. He and his followers would throw little tantrums. He used to talk about how Black women have no business expecting a man to pay child support. Um...what?

I'm just chuckling, because if that had been an opinionated Black woman doing all of that (ranting about Black men), she'd be dismissed as just another loud, mad Black woman who needs to STFU, go brush her weave, and go take care of all her six kids with six daddies. *rolls eyes*

He's a comedian, satirist, reformer trying to keep his daughters and others from going down the same path. He focuses on the black woman as a more zoomed in issue that many see as a problem with women in general (I almost wrote female but corrected myself! Thank me!!!)

But yeah he is so easy to write off until you get what he is doing. I think his biggest mistake professionally is that he focuses on black ppl too much and that now he's giving to many explanations. Out of most of the Youtube blowhards he seems like he could have the most success and branch out.

No, I've actually heard him say he hates Black women. Lol. Wanting to keep your daughters from going down a bad path is fine, but actually admitting to hating Black women (while you're in the process of raising one)...that's something entirely different, and that's not good.

I think that middle of the road politics would still be considered "leftist" politics by most right-wing politicians, just because they live, breathe and survive off of fear-mongering. That white lash existed because right wing politics tell people they are under attack, makes them reminisce on their childhood hopes & dreams and then tells them that they haven't been accomplished because of "the others". Right wing politics are mostly established on either victim blaming or playing the victim - and anything that doesn't allow that process to work they won't support it. But the good thing about the white lash & Trumps win is that it exposed the right wing tactic and i think (hope) that people take serious note of this cycle as to not repeat it and move more to a middle ground.

This recent popularity of calling any conservative who is willing to work with liberals on issues a "cuckservative" is a prime example. Our system requires checks and balances in order to work properly and our democracy will fall apart if many of these people don't put their ego's and personal agendas to the side once in a while.

I also really hate how everything is SO divided by party or left/right. I read a bit about how climate change and environmentalism in general became a "left" issue and thus by default is opposed by the right. I think this leads to both sides becoming more polar and to individuals feeling like they have to agree 100% with the liberal or conservative rhetoric. Then you see people doubling-down on stupid ideas, or acting incredibly hypocritical when their side does something they've slammed the other for, because to disagree is to acknowledge The Other could have valuable ideas.

I agree! I have noticed a lot of people, myself included, fall victim to the law of excluded middle- that either something is, or isn't. Either/or logic. It is easier to examine and understand things when you look at them in terms of spectra. There are a lot more grey areas than black and white areas, in my personal opinion, and it is healthier to make educated decisions based upon personal research and experience than it is to follow others or vote down the party line, politically and in far broader senses as well.

Yeah, I found myself switching my opinion a bunch of times whilst listening. I went from horrified and offended to faintly understanding him once he stopped being an unfathomable asshole and basically said "lol I don't really think black women should be called bed wenches, I don't care who they date as long as they are happy" (I am paraphrasing). I fully understand the definition of the word bed wench. I was bringing up another point Tommy mentioned in his video when I typed the bit about who dates who. Tommy does not seem to understand the definition of the word bed wench and actually states that he just started using the word because he heard it elsewhere. This guy is pretty dumb.

Tommy seems to have expanded his usage of the term bed wench to include black women who he thinks have sex with white men with more perceived power, money, or influence.

I can't edit my post anymore, so I would like to reiterate that Tommy literally goes from calling black women bed wenches to saying he doesn't care who they date. I made no mention of my understanding of the word, I was just paraphrasing a sentence I heard him utter. He does not understand the word. He does not appear to have any concrete stance or understanding of anything. Just some ignorant asshole on the internet making a name for himself by displaying how little he knows about anything while acting like he knows everything, acquiring similarly minded fans and angering a bunch of people in the process.
