Hi! First time posting in any kind of community like this, so I hope I've made this thread in the right place. My girlfriend has recently begun feeling more confident in her body than she has in years, and has expressed interest in potentially camming in the foreseeable future (as well as maybe things like selling panties, private Snapchat, videos, etc). She isn't quite there yet, but we've made profiles on FetLife and she uploaded some nudes on there for the first time ever and is feeling really empowered by the feedback. My question to you all is this: before you felt confident enough to cam, where did you dip your toes into online sex work? How did those experiences go?

It was as easy for me as discovering it was a thing, researching different types of models, and doing it. I'd already been naked in front of strangers at fetish parties, so it wasn't hard for me.

Sounds like fun! Neither of us have done anything like that, but hey, you never know what you might end up getting into.

Needing money >confidence

For me.

No one could tear down what I didn't think I had. Ahahaha.
o_O

Makes sense - I imagine this is the same for a lot of camgirls.

I'd say start with videos. Not only is it a better introduction to sex work than diving right into camming, but she'll have stuff to sale when she actually does start camming.

She could dip her toe into the wacky world of phone sex, texting, or camming in virtual worlds like Second Life and IMVU. All of things are less scary than working on a big site :) Best of luck!

These sound like really good ideas, especially since she used to play IMVU a lot back in the day haha!

Well, it's the next logical step from pictures, right? :)

I stumbled upon someone on tumblr who cams, thought it sounded like fun, could use the extra $$$...so here I am, lol.

As good a reason as any! :p we're big fans of a couple of cam models + video creators

I worked office/management/serving in a strip club for a long time, said fuck it one day after I was single and gogo danced on the side, then I started stripping at the same club (because fuck paperwork, amirite), so that was my introduction into the adult industry. My bf at the time told me to give camming a shot because I might like it, I didn't even know what it was to be honest. Signed up for MFC a few days later, logged on without knowing what the fuck I was doing, had an amazing time and... well here we are. I treated it as just a fun hobby for a long while, but it slowly became full-time. I've been in the adult industry since 2011 and camming since 2014 and I wouldn't have it any other way. Haha, how I got a job at a strip club is a long story for another thread too.

I'd be keen to hear the story sometime! That's one of those jobs you don't exactly see job listings for often :haha:

I was doing nude and erotic modeling when I was contacted by a local porn actress who wanted to shoot fetish clips with me. she mentioned camming and streamate. a couple weeks after I met and shot clips with her I set up on streamate and started camming there. I guess I kind of stumbled into camming and sex work in general. I was unemployed and was making money here and there doing nude modeling, which I also kind of stumbled in to. it's crazy to think about because 5 years ago I never would have seen myself doing sex work. but since then I've branded out into other areas like stripping and escorting as well.

tell her to join up herself :p

I don't know why I haven't already done that, I'm sure she knows herself better than I do :p

That's awesome, sounds like it all came together!

I quit my job that made me cry in the parking lot every day before work, broke up with my emotionally abusive boyfriend, moved out of state and in with a friend. He told me all about the gorgeous @JoleneBrody and @LacieLaPlante.

I did some nude modeling, including a fundraiser calendar for an organization I really cared about. Realized I was often more comfortable naked than clothed, and that I no longer gave a shit about what anyone thought of me.

I got real drunk one night and logged into MFC. Made a bunch of money, but couldn't keep a schedule so I did it less and less until I got a vanilla job again.

Then I traveled the world for a bit, but was starting to run low on cash. @SatanJonez had been talking about Clips4Sale and that seemed less draining (for me) than live cam, and easier to keep up with since I couldn't keep a schedule.
Being a weird and sometimes naked person on the internet has been my sole income since 2014.

I got into camming through my ex girlfriend. I'd only just been introduced to the wonderful world of BDSM (in large part thanks to fetlife) when I decided to start camming. There wasn't really a stepping stone for me unless you wanna count going to kink events, but my ex did tell me to take two weeks to think about it just to be sure. Camming will affect your career choices and limit certain options going forward (can't be a teacher or a public figure). There are quite a few threads on here that may address any concerns you haven't mentioned, so do a search and see what you find. I'd also check out the tips for camming threads for ideas on what to do when she starts.

Good luck!

As someone who cried on my corporate parking lot often as well, this made me very happy

My stepping stones into camming was being a pso for 10 years, a texter for 5, and virtual escort in virtual worlds such as second life for 1 year. Camming is apart of my large and complex adult industry career. I decided to jump into camming after being in this industry for a decade. So, I decided to cam as a non-nude domme because it fits me as a person. Then I became a fully fledged sugar baby and clip producer one year after camming. Camming is not my top money maker (it is number 5 on the list) but I love it. My top money maker will always be phone sex and sugaring. Sugaring is pretty profitable if you could handle it and know what you are doing.

Sugaring definitely sounds appealing, she's already found another woman on FetLife who wants her to be her domme, so she seems to be on the right track for that kind of thing. How did you go about finding people who were interested in sugaring, if you don't mind me asking?

Frankly, it varies from person to person but I prefer going the freestyle route. You know, you guys should research sugaring before going out there. However, I would suggest not using sugar websites or listening to the sugar tumblr community. If she needs to talk to Angel Sugars (Girls and guys who make their living via sugaring or those who make 70,000 off sugaring) then you can Pm me. She needs to focus on what type of sugar she wants to be and her hustle. Hustling is very important in sugaring and she needs to develop a tight hustle. I would say it took me a good year of research and building my business plan up before going out there. Now, I did some light sugaring in high school but nothing major until 2015 and started to get my salary.

Personally, I love having arrangements with truckers, oil workers, and other highly paid blue-collar guys. Wealthy guys are great but they do not give as much for a short amount of time. Plus, blue-collar guys are great for first time sugar babies. Also do not be afraid of the wealthy foreign guy. She needs to start off with 1500 and up for non-sexual and 3500 and up for sexual arrangements. Do not start off with saying more than 5,000 a month if she is not a perfect 10, model/actress, has an highly education, or willing to do depraved sexual acts.Do not start off with my high school arrangement of 400 to 700 per month because it is playing to cheap. Unless you like that type of arrangement. Female to female sugar arrangements are a bit different because women usually give up front before anything happens. For example. Female sugar mamas love buying clothes and shoes before you guys go to your first "date".Women love giving gifts in sheer volume more than men. But men give allowances more freely than women in the sugar world. Make sure to use some sort of screening program for her sugar daddies and verify their information.Make sure she does not get too attached to other sugar babies because they can be a bit pickled. Also, she needs to dress to attached her POT (Potential sugar daddies) and wear her makeup according.

I hope this helps :)

I was an active member on myfreecams for 5 years before taking the plunge into camming. I held back for that long because I knew my self esteem wasn't strong enough to cam - if anyone criticized my body when I was in my late teens, I would have been too fragile to handle those kinds of comments. Today, any negative comments run off me like water and I'm tougher than ever. ;)

After 5 years of being a member, my best friend and roommate was into sex work and I told her I wanted to cam and I wanted her to do it with me. She was like, "no, I don't think you could handle it." And I said, "well, I'm doing it anyways - so join me if you like."

My first 4 months as a cam girl WAS tough. Before being a cam girl, I wasn't very assertive and I didn't have strong boundaries. My boundaries were so non-existent that sometimes strangers had to save me from uncomfortable situations with street people because I just straight up trusted everyone.

In my first 4 months as a cam girl, I slowly learned how to say no to people. I mean, if I didn't, I would wind up having done some ridiculous sexual stuff that I was NOT ready for. If I said yes to everyone I would have had like 2 ten inch in dildos in my ass at all times probably. Heck, maybe even 10 2 inch dildos... who knows.

It was a slow process for me, a lot of members took advantage of my niceness and that really sucked. Until I learned to be less nice. So less nice, that I've found my inner DOMME and freaking love being in control and be not-so-nice.

It's been over a year since I started camming. My personality has completely changed, for the better.

Keep us posted on her journey into this world, if she decides to! :)

When i was 18 and fresh out of highschool, when caming was just starting I had a little website, and i loved it. Made a little money, but i wasn't super successful. I was young and trying to run my own webstie and failing at it. THEN my mom found out and FREAKED OUT ON ME. I still lived with her. So i had to stop.

Fastforward to almost a decade later, I was a teacher and miserable. I cried everyday and hated my job. I was treated like shit by my employer and paid next to nothing. My husband suggested I find a new job. I was researching work from home jobs, and stumbled upon Streamate. I told my husband and he was down with the idea. I've been doing this for almost 3 months now, and I'm making more than I was teaching, and I'm MUCH happier. Even my marriage is better now because I'm happier.

I started a blog about sexy stuff. Then, through blogging, I found a couple who wanted someone to watch them on skype. It was pretty fun. After a few c2c sessions with them, I gave camming a try. Years later, it became my full time job.

God, what is it with corporate jobs being soul sucking!? it makes me think something is wrong with me but I'm starting to realize we are the real 'humans'. hate the fish bowl mentality and backstabbing. glad you're happier!

I was a bartender at a strip club who did phone sex after my shift while wound down after being on the go for several hours. After year I think it was, someone suggested I get into camming. I got burned out working in nightclubs. 9 years later and I miss working in clubs. Just recently started back up bartending here and there.

I'm abit of a veteran in the sex industry. I started waitressing in a strip bar at 21 then moved to London where I worked in all the top clubs as a dancer till I was about 28, I then got into sugar daddy arrangements for a few years, for me it was a big mistake. I got involved with a billiionare from the states and he introduced me into BDSM, which I wasn't comfortable with and inevitably messed me up. He ended up paying around 200,000 dollars for me to stay in a long term voluntary recovery treatment centre for depression.
I stepped away from the industry then completely then in 2015 started phone sexy and SMS chat, and from that been Camming for 4 months.
My biggest lesson I've learnt in 16 years since I started out is it's not worth the sacrifice on your mental health to do things you are not comfortable with no matter the pay cheque, because you will crash and burn quite epically.
I feel safe and in control Canning more so than I ever did in dancing and with sugar daddies. I only work a couple of hours a evening and so far clear around £1k a week. I think/know now I am older I'm more assertive, have boundaries and have a lot of experience for good and bad lessons experienced to make it work.
My clients are respectful and gentle, most of all we have fun with it. I have a niche and it works and it's one I enjoy :)
I'm quite proud of myself for how I've turned things around and like I said Camming is much more fun for me than any other part of the industry I've experienced.
I'm a new poster here too, just wanted to say another hello whilst I'm here :)
Chloe xxx

I moved to Chicago and couldn't find a job, so I ended up doing sex work there. I got out of that, but I'm going to get into camming really soon. Not really qualified for anything else and I really dislike being out in public, so it seems a natural fit!

My best friend and her friend said they found a job where just need chat with foreigners and make them fall in love with you, at studio. Lol When they came there, they saw my other friend from university group, and I were like "oh, if everyone there - I will go also!". I joined and since first day it's went very well for me. I'm Ukrainian so it was very big money for me even when I worked for studio first couple years.
