What is the best way to feed the output of a music app to OBS as a digital input, without creating an echo on your microphone that distorts the sound to listeners?

It's easy enough to feed an app to OBS, but if you want to listen to the output of that app it will also get picked up by your microphone. That then creates two copies of the music, and it can distort the sound and create feedback loops. What is the right way to give listeners the best experience hearing the playlist, without losing the ability to hear the music as the broadcaster?

Loopback or Soundflower: what is the suggested configuration for that to avoid having the playback on the speakers create an echo on the microphone?

Here is a good guide.

Great article. So what I think a webcam model can take from that and easily put to use:

1) Use a high gain microphone that is directional and keep it close to your mouth.

2) Put the speakers far away from that microphone, and turn the volume on the speakers way down.

The idea is to use the speakers just as a faint reference clue. The downside is that the model isn't going to be able to enjoy the music in her broadcast nearly as much as her viewers will.

Another option would be instead of getting the music fed directly from Spotify or what ever program to the stream would be to mic a speaker like you would with a guitar amp, but this is more costly and would require xlr microphones as well as a mixer board and I don't think most models would recon that this would be worth the cost.
